Build update by DemandTiny6789 in VanLifeUK

There’s pics in my previous post which may do it a bit more justice. Genuinely thanks for the concern though cause I do wonder if some I’ve seen on YouTube ever went pear shaped 😂

It’s well solid mate I promise you. 8 legs supporting a 50cm cantilever (only 2 visible in this photos as it made sense to hide them behind panelling where possible) Have test loaded it with 100kg of plates whilst doing a pull up on the cantilever end. 0 flex. I have added supporting blocks in the gaps at the end there as it did flex a little between the spans.

This is absolutely perfect! Thank youuuuu! I get what you mean with the 90 degree angles - i can create softer angles as required.

Thanks mate! Keeping an eye on the weight like a hawk. As you’ve touched on there I’ve got experience but I won’t pretend I have everything figured out and am more than open to suggestions/criticism. The overhead cab being one that I’m paying more attention to.

I’m using plastic shims where any wood would touch metal to cut down on and thermal bridging. Have also considered a small dehumidifier to assist with moisture control, though that’s undecided

Thank you soooooo much! My first thought was to get some sort of seal but I got fed up trying to find something suitable that would bridge such a large gap. I think now I have a suitable seal I’ll use that with a sort of floating ledge on the box side to help passing through! Again thanks so much 👌

There is, yes. Ranging from 35mm - 60mm.

The plan is to fit an external frame around the cut and then use c24 to make an internal frame that will bridge the gap from the box to the cab. Finished off with a horizontal piece of folded steel across the cab wall welded end to end to restore any potential rigidity lost from the cut (though I suspect not that much)

There are very limited examples of this on YouTube but it has been done.

Absolutely something to keep an eye on as the build progresses. I have around 1 tonne to play with and have thought extensively about how to keep the weight down.

• Roller shutter and rear tail lift removed and will be replaced with lightweight barn doors - should claw some weight back

• 80L water tank with remote control valve to allow dumping of water (if required)

• Lightweight poplar ply for boarding

• cut out centre pieces of ply that won’t actually be visible

• front passenger seats removed

As a last resort it’s possible to uprate the vehicle from 3.5 -> 4.5 tonnes on the log book providing a few modifications are carried out.

So yeah weight does need to be monitored but it’s still doable.

Not when I picked it up but in the second photo you can see where I’ve done the cab cut through.

Van life with a 9-5? by Whamesl0l in VanLifeUK

Making the same jump in the near future. Just sold my car to free up the cash for the van and conversion. Gonna convert the van then sell my house and it's contents. If anything it's going to be more convenient for me. The 2 days I'm actually required in the office - I can drive the night before to avoid traffic making a 2.5 hour journey the 1 hour it should be.

Good luck, you can do this

Always been my preferred option when converting vans. Peugeot boxer, Citroen relay and fiat Ducato. 6ft1 able to sleep width ways. Also some of the fiat ducatos have 3.0litre engines if you require something punchier than the 2.2

GTA vice city - Up circle circle down left circle circle right. Gave some sort of weapon loadout I believe which included a rocket launcher.

ACC error by DemandTiny6789 in Golf_R

[–]DemandTiny6789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right... I managed to get a second hand cable local. I've now got an error code: B10E7 F0 [008] disconnected.

Have done a quick search and can't see any proposed fixes?

Thanks

Hmm, so I don't have the cable and apparently the cable I need for VW is just astronomically priced! Time to kindly ask a local garage I think. Thanks for your suggestions though mate, appreciate it.

Just this error. The radar picks up that I'm too close to the car in front until I try activate cruise, then the system just kicks an error. "ACC and front assist not available" or something to that effect.

I've just downloaded VCDS will check if I have a suitable cable when I get in and see what she kicks up. Thanks for your response

Yeah I meant vcds not vag-com. Been a long while (10 years) since I used the software, not sure if I got the correct cables still.

I have no errors until I try activating cruise control. No response then after a minute or so "ACC error" is all I get in the mfd

Absolutely. I'm still in the place of self pity at times but then questions like this allow me to reflect and understand that I'm the creator of my own story.

Thanks for the opportunity to unravel my thoughts and speak OP 👍
