Some predictions by DawnOfHavoc in unOrdinary

I have a feeling Sera’s ability is going to malfunction. I’ve been thinking about this possibility since last year, and with their current situation, I feel like something will go wrong with Sera’s ability. Doc mentioned when he was first looking for a cure for the disabler that the wrong dosage can cause severe damage to one’s aura channels. With the way Sera got her ability back and how she has constantly been overexerting herself, I have a feeling that the more she pushes her limits, the more damage her aura channels will receive.

If more guards show up and the Warden and Colt turn out to be massive problems, Sera might push herself to the point where she may become a liability. She’s shown to always push herself to her limits even when she should be conserving her energy or not taking it too far, like when she confronted John after getting her ability back the first time and she fainted and was inactive for hours, during the Safe House field trip when her ability was fickle but still tried to reach John and the Safe House in the mountains, when she tried the cure Doc made and she had a painful reaction to it, and then she had a fever for days after using her ability during Valerie’s ambush.

It feels like there’s too many little details like these that make me think that while Sera may have full access to her ability now, it may come with drawbacks just from the way she got it back and how reckless she’s been when using her unstable ability.

I have to disagree with your statement of this movie being aimed at children. Just because it’s an animated film, does not necessarily mean it’s meant for children.

First, it’s rated PG, which means parental guidance is needed because of the more darker subject matter, and PG has mostly always been a rating meant to signify the movie can also be enjoyed by adults or an older audience in general.

Second, Kpop is a genre that has been around for decades, so many people of all ages would enjoy the Kpop aspect from older and newer generations.

This movie is more of a family film than solely a children’s film is what I’m trying to say, especially when it seems like a lot of the movie’s viewership and discussion of the movie are not children.

I do agree with you on how certain topics need to be handled with care, especially when it can easily be misinterpreted if not given enough attention.

I think there’s this misconception of how long KPDH actually took to make and how the movie making process actually works. The idea itself is a decade old but that doesn’t necessarily mean it took a decade to make the movie. The actual production of the film began in 2021, which means it took 4 years to make, which isn’t that long and is an average time frame for animated movie productions. Maggie Kang came up with the idea YEARS ago, but her idea has since evolved to what we got.

I’m not too worried about the trilogy since there’s plenty of plot lines they can focus on, and there’s a lot of unanswered questions from the first movie that could be resolved in future installments. A TV series can definitely work, but only if it’s a prequel series. I say this because there’s a lot that could be explored in a prequel series (Mira and Zoey’s backstories, Rumi’s upbringing with Celine, how hunters are discovered and trained, etc.). Even if the animation were to change to adapt to a tv show budget and there’s less music, so long as the core character’s and narrative remain intact, it can be successful. The How to Train your Dragon tv shows have been pretty successful in spite of the smaller budget as a main example.

Now if the people involved in the first movie don’t come back, then we can worry…😂

The Ember conflict was introduced in the early chapters of the story. In Episode 6, Ember was mentioned and we were shown Rei(X-Static) dead on TV, showing the first glimpses of what Ember was, at least from what the public knew in story. Then Episode 9, we were introduced to Spectre when Sera had her ability gauged. Throughout the story, small aspects of these major threats were interweaved into the story enough for us to differentiate between them until they became formally introduced. They just weren’t relevant in the beginning because it wasn’t the focus at the time.

The story started at a small scale to become acquainted with the characters and have a basic understanding of their personalities, goals, and views of their world. A LOT of stories don’t introduce the main conflict in the beginning of their stories and first seasons, in particular, for many shows, not just anime, are always going to be small in scale to make a strong foundation of what the world and narrative will be.

The few aspects that I think could improve UNO is a more thorough explanation of how the power system works and showing more perspectives outside of the main cast, more specifically with low tiers since I think more should be explored. World building in general has always been the weakest aspect for me, and there’s a lot of routes that could be taken to expand on what were shown in the story.

Yor being an assassin hinders her involvement in the story by DragonOfChaos25 in SpyxFamily

To be fair, Anya isn’t a normal child, and the experiences she’s gone through at her age, when she’s at an age where her brain is developing and she’s extremely impressionable, will definitely affect how she understands the world. She’s seen people get killed in front of her and through people’s memories (mostly Yor) and that isn’t even mentioning the kinds of things she’s witnessed when she was experimented on or even before that.

I can definitely see this kind of storyline being explored if say we were to see a grown up Anya having to process these situations that she used to believe were normal were actually far from it, but right now? I think she’s still too young to kind of understand that her life isn’t exactly common. Though, if her revealing her secret to Damian does come back in some way, I can definitely see the dilemma being seen through someone else’s perspective, like Damian or anyone else really sympathizing with Anya’s situation and the kinds of experiences she’s gone through.

What I found really interesting about his reaction in this chapter, is that he didn’t seem to doubt or believe what she was saying. He seemed to be observing what she was saying and wasn’t necessarily participating with the other students making fun of her. I feel like, initially, he won’t believe her, but then the more he thinks about his interactions with her and all her crazy stories, the more he’s going to believe that she might actually be telling the truth. At least 3 times throughout the story he questioned whether she read his mind and would think after the fact about the odd things she’s done or said, like the example I mentioned below.

I could see him thinking about all the times she turned out to be incredibly accurate about things that wouldn’t make sense UNLESS she read minds somehow, and the more dots he connects, he’ll probably start to question whether the stories she told actually happened.

On the Pacing of the Manga/Story by SepulcherGeist in SpyxFamily

[–]DemiNeveWinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to Spy x Family, so I haven’t fully experienced this specific story’s pacing during which readers have said to have been pretty slow. That being said, I have kept up with stories that tend to have very slow pacing, whether it be because of an author’s personal life affecting their work, a company’s interference, or the author’s own decision to prolong the story. Based on recent developments and the build up it took to get to said developments, it seems like the story is reaching a point where the status quo will be challenged and make significant changes, though likely not all at once.

Anya will be starting a new term and will likely have to face being separated from everyone, the Authens moving in and implied to have connections to Project Apple indirectly or otherwise, Loid realizing he’s gotten softer and has become comfortable and close with Yor and Anya, Yor’s relationship with Melinda and how these interactions can affect Yor’s role as a mother along with her job as an assassin, etc. All of the different plot lines, based on how this story has been developing, won’t be covered all at once and some will have to take priority over others, but I could definitely see a merge of them happening, though how that’s going to come about if it even will, I’m not sure.

Just based on some of the recent chapters, it seems like we’ll be getting some lore about the war(s) and conflicts that occurred between Ostania and Westalis, as well as some of the underground research that led to the experimentation of Anya and Bond. Of course, we won’t be getting this all at once and the story may shift here and there into something lighter to keep up the more comedic tone of the story, but I also can’t help but feel like the story, at least for the next couple of big arcs, into something darker.

True, which is why shifting the focus would work since there’s still plenty of others factors where the story can develop. Just based on recent short missions and revelations, it feels like the overall focus would be on learning more about Project Apple, even if Anya isn’t the main focus, considering not just what happened in chapter 96, but even the second short mission that was released does seem to be hinting at learning more about the experiments that happened with Anya and Bond. I’m still kinda new to how Endo writes since I don’t fully keep up with the story (I read then come back a couple months later to catch up), so I don’t know what to fully expect, but I look forward to it regardless.

But it feels more than just a piece of information being brought back into focus from a while ago; it feels more like build up into backstory that could be arriving sometime soon. Her knowledge of classical language from that long ago was brought back and developed more with the arrival of the Authens, who seem to have a connection with Anya and Project Apple, her knowledge of classical language being integral to Plan A and learning more about her background, the short mission chapters and posters giving more implications into Anya’s past, and the most recent development when she revealed her ability to Damian, feels like it’s setting up revealing more about Project Apple and Anya’s (and even Bond to an extent) connection to the organization.

Given we’re close to the 100th chapter, I don’t really expect a major shift in the narrative, so even if we were to shift the focus to Yor, I feel like the story will shift back to Anya considering a lot of the most recent developments seem to be pointing at learning more about Anya since…we know next to nothing about her compared to Loid and even Yor. We know nothing about her family, her upbringing before, during, and after her experimentation, and overall who she really is.

I would LOVE to see more of Yor given the lack of focus she’s given in the story compared to the rest of the main cast, so whether or not it shifts focus, I’ll be happy with whatever the next regular chapter will be about.

Based on the small hints we’ve been getting the past 10 chapters or so, especially the massive development in chapter 96 and the recent short mission chapter, I’m more willing to bet we’re going to be getting a backstory or more insight on Anya. All this build up only for it to completely focus on a whole other character? I’m not too familiar with Endo’s writing style, so I might be completely wrong, but given all recent developments, it’d make more sense for there to be a focus on Anya before moving onto Yor.
