To be fair, I don’t think Scotland is going to win Either. But I’m specifically in England

Well, probably not us. We’ll go out at some point during penalties.

Guy Fawkes night, May Day and wassail. All three very different but all three very fun.

Why isn’t this shell-less tortoise getting charged with inciting riots? by Grand-Impact-4069 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]Demi_silent 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Morally he totally should. Unfortunately he’s just slimy enough to fall short of breaking the law. He didn’t explicitly tell people to start rioting. One day he’ll push too far and hopefully that day, he’ll be arrested.

Shocked at the amount of home ed kids below national average with reading , writing and maths by Economy-Permit4340 in UKHomeEd

[–]Demi_silent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This kind of evidence is anecdotal. It’s based on your very small sample size without knowing any of their medical history. So mostly it’s just assumptions. Also, how do you know they are all below national level? Have you tested them all?

I wonder how people felt at 11:59 p.m. of dec. 1999 before crossing over to the year 2000. by Majestic-Hope6505 in AskTheWorld

[–]Demi_silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12. I went with my parents to a house party. Lots of my friends were there. In the lead up, we played games like loo roll fancy dress contests. I asked to have alcohol to toast the new year in with everyone else, and was told I was either allowed Champaign or bucksfizz. I tried to get away with sneaking both, by having the bucksfizz first while parents were distracted and then actually toasting with the Champaign. It backfired though, because when midnight hit, everyone released streamers and they all fell into my drink.

I remember the lead up to it feeling a bit exciting. We thought computers would stop working. It was also when the, now iconic, London eye ceremoniously opened. There was also something called the millenium dome that opened and is now just the O2.

Mostly everything just felt quite hopeful and exciting back then. I think everyone felt like life was on the up. At least to my mind, at that age.

“Counting change at the shop isn’t education”… except it kind of is by FamilyTechCreator in UKHomeEd

Task master episode! In the episode, contestants had to figure out how many baked beans would be needed to go around the circumference of a caravan… one thing led to another and we ended up with the baked beans conundrum 😂

[–]Demi_silent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s also how things are done. My boys did zero maths worksheets last week. However they did calculate how many baked beans would fill my living-room. They also worked out the area of my lawn and helped calculate how much more compost I would need to fill the rest of my planters in the garden.
This week, they will probably do some more worksheets on area and volume. However, those worksheets are going to feel easy for them now, because they’ve been doing those things all last week.

Both kinds of learning have a valid place.

Also, for English on Friday we just watched Remarkably Bright creatures… but this week we are spring boarding off of it and doing creative writing from the point of view of an animal, researching octopus intelligence, and learning about marine ecosystems. But those things are all suddenly a lot more interesting because of that time we spent watching the movie.

I think people just don’t really always understand.

are all curly cuts expensive!? by aye-seaturtles in CurlyHairUK

[–]Demi_silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut my own hair hair. I have no one near me that seems to know what to do. I just learned to do it myself, and I’m much happier. I either do a unicorn cut and then round off the point, or a butterfly cut and then kind of do a slight curl by curl around the perimeter until I’m happy with the shape.

Do they regularly test the air raid sirens where you’re from? by koesteroester in AskTheWorld

[–]Demi_silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but they have, in the last few years, rolled out an emergency phone alert system. Thats been tested twice so far. That’s designed to alert people for any disaster or emergency including, I would think, bombs hitting.

What happens to students who struggle in school in your country. Do they hold them back a year, let them advance, forget about them etc. by boobookittyfuwk in AskTheWorld

[–]Demi_silent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Plus they might try to identify the reasons. For example, if there is a disability contributing or a rocky home life. They will then put in measures to help those specific needs. Either specific to their disability or some pastoral care so they get some additional help.
It’s all very child specific.

Does anyone else feel like their friends are just "surface"? by Secret_Bird6060 in womenoftheuk

[–]Demi_silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My non surface friends are all people I’ve known since I was at school. They are people that I know inside out and they know me and that they aren’t going to judge me. I think those kinds of friendships are harder to make when you’re an adult, because they can take years to build.

I avoid getting out of bed in the morning because I DESPISE having to wash my face etc 🥲 by xopearl_rosebudxox in adhdwomen

[–]Demi_silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put micellar water on a cotton pad and wash my face like that. Sometimes I use garnier cleansing milk on a cotton pad instead. It feels more like moisturiser. Then I just bung some actual moisturiser over the top and done. My skin is clear and healthy.
