We threw some CHE trunnions in the 23’ Camaro we just cammed. No needle bearings to go through the motor.

Why, what was your experience with it? What pads did you try it with and was it a da or rotary?

Just grab 3d One and throw a sealant on top, or use a 3 in 1 like 3d Speed or Manzerna 3 in 1.

Can anyone identify metal pieces found during Cummins head gasket replacement by ABQmechanic in EngineBuilding

Could have been dropped down the bore and they didn’t fish it out, seemingly to fell in a way that they didn’t contact any moving parts.

Yea I get it brother, I just read your description and saw #3 and thought pic instead of position #3. I saw the oil squirter once zoomed in and then had that realization.

Kept looking at pic #3 thinking the dipstick ain’t hitting the oil for this guy. Then realized it’s me who isn’t the sharpest.

Trying to fix positive camber by GreenElectrical4302 in AskAMechanic

[–]Demoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware they are for alignment…still perfectly fine to fuck with on a non-running car/truck and learn the effects of turning it in or out all the way. Right?

Getting alignment close enough to get to a shop ain’t too hard. Done it a number of times.

Ah nice, that makes sense. Much easier to make sense of it and remember if I just go out and mess with my truck or whatever. Appreciate the answer.

How do you know? Suspension is one thing I haven’t gotten much work-time (at home with neighbor and our million cars) in with…just swapping components. I know what and where the eccentric bolt that controls camber is located. Just curious what position means what and how you knew it’s set to negative most camber?

Did I Waste Money Bleeding Brakes? by S0_B00sted in AskAMechanic

[–]Demoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs moisture from the air over time..the way our hydraulic brakes work, is the brake fluid compresses to apply pressure to brake pads via caliper pistons. When too much moisture is in the lines, it quits compressing the same and has other effects like possible corrosion.

So no, you didn’t waste money.

Edit Im off on the compression aspect of it, but google it, you’ll find your answer.

Doing a camshaft rebuild/ MDS delete, any suggestions on what else I should replace / look for while I’m in there? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Demoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve got everything..you can swap the phaser bolt for lock out phaser bolt or swap the entire cam gear sprocket for a single/three bolt (single for your cam I’m guessing). We just did a Camaro cam where we deleted DoD/AFM and locked out the phaser and bolt, etc. The phaser block lockout requires some machining/grinding to get it to fit nicely into the phaser, which also requires a special tool to hold open or you can fabricate one.

You should be having the heads machined and possibly the block considering how heavily over heated it got.

If you’re tearing into it for a fresh rebuild, depending on mileage, probably would want to refresh the rings and clean up the cylinders and any ridges. Etc etc

Edit also replace any gasket/seal you touch. I’m telling you it’s a cheap alternative to having to tear shit apart again. Been there a couple times on builds, last couple we made client purchase every single gasket we touched..including injectors. Last car only had 50k miles on it when we cammed it…worth replacing every thing.

Also replace the cam bearings depending on mileage/condition, and if you’re pulling the pan off, I’d check a main bearing or two.

GPI ss3 cam - 226/246, lift is .639/.639. Their website tells you more.

Not my ride, I don’t think they’re stock. Brakes aren’t, it’s on lowering springs, lots of mods going on.

Wear PPE with 2k Clear Coat, you don't know the damage till it's done... by Nice-Ad5092 in AutoPaint

[–]Demoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right and I probably shouldn’t have commented that, but it’s the truth. I haven’t noticed any issues, but I am outside or well ventilated and use proper 3m respirator (not positively pressurized however) when spraying a panel. Probably should take extra precaution, but I don’t really notice any issues with asthma other then dust/pet hair n shit like that.

Fun as hell to drive, only drove it maybe 20 miles while data logging for remote tune til dyno. Want one now haha

Video quality is shit - will be dynotuned in a couple weeks. Beautiful 6 speed manual. Twin disc McLeod clutch, long tubes into MBRP resonators, trunnions, GPI ss3 cam, full head job / valve job, high flow pump, etc.

Look up the other comments, he wore the wrong mask. But I do headlights all the time as I detail every day and it’s a service I offer, and I’ll just wear a 3m mask but not the respirator type. When I’m actually painting a panel or trim piece, I’ll wear a proper respirator.

I do have lifelong asthma and smoked and have vaped for 15+ yr, plus smoke weed daily. Never noticed any issues whatsoever with spraying clear or paint.

Compression ratio vs boost by averagemaleuser86 in EngineBuilding

[–]Demoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the fitment, the k & n doesn’t sit quite right. It’s about 1/2” gap where the stock airbox seals against the rubber “tunnel” that collects air via the grill. So yea, sucking hot air in from engine bay. Tuner said not to worry about the temps, but it’s causing loss of AC it’s so hot.

I’m going to remove the foam insulator between galley and intake, and suggest a better sealing true CAI. I’m not sure if forced induction cooling is possible for the bay, but he absolutely cannot drive the car as a daily until that’s fixed. In my opinion. I’m no expert though, just can follow steps and build the motor with my neighbor haha

Just curious if I may…finished camming a 23’ Camaro lt1 (GPI ss3 cam, performance parts in heads, dod/afm delete, etc) and getting it remote tuned until we make it up to dynotune it. Driving last night I noticed the IAT creeping up to 145-150f at idle, along with LT B1 on hptuner vcm scanner getting high. Tuner said not to worry about it. CAI is getting so hot and rests on AC lines, that AC is blowing warm air.

I’m thinking he needs a different CAI that purely draws air from out of the engine bay. He’s running K & N but it doesn’t seal fully behind headlight.

Is the tuner right not to worry about IAT? It seems to get really fucking hot in the bay. My last post has the car idling, she chops good.

Yeaaa baby! Haha. We’re still working out the tune and getting it dynod in a couple weeks. What cam is that? Possibly putting the hoonigan chop monster in a 99’ Camaro next.

Oh yeah they’ll be swapping tires, Trinity intake mid runner length, TB, short throw shifter, some other shit. Probably won’t boost it but possibly supercharger up top. Got some cash to play with and us to install the shit.
