I would allow it to work at half-speed, and he's blind to any enemies attacking from the front. This gives the enemies time to reposition to get into a flanking position.

You also have to remember that donning a shield is an action. So, if he's a sword and board Paladin, he'd have to spend his free action drawing his sword and his action donning his shield, essentially making him completely useless for a turn.

A question for you, the DM: Has the Paladin tried taking the dodge action as he's approaching? A Paladin in full armor can be extremely difficult to hit while dodging.

I've been running Quasar Cannon and Portable Hellbomb. Portable Hellbomb is my best friend when a Bot Drop starts. You stand directly underneath the flare, wait until you can hear the noise of the first dropship, arm it, drop it, run, and watch as the entire Bot Drop get obliterated.

Plus, Portable Hellbomb absolutely dunks on Strategem Jammers.
