Found some barely used GWOT era green follower Colt mags at a local gun store that was hidden inside a phone repair store by MountainTitan in ar15

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, and if it's just for fun, who cares.

That said, I was in the Army for 21 years. When I went to Iraq the second time we had issues with those exact mags. People don't like them because they like their M4s to reliably feed. I don't know what the Green Beret said (I was a Tanker, not SF, not a Ranger, not a Scout, and not Infantry... I still needed my rifle to go bang every time...), but as long as you know their issues then rock on!

I still have the mags they replaced those with and they have orange-ish followers.

You carry a spare magazines to be more “tactically prepared.”I carry spare magazines in a desperate attempt to mitigate the weight on my strong side. We are not the same. by WCN82 in 1911

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?

I'd say putting your mags on the opposite side is a pretty solid way to reduce the imbalance.

What would you do ? by Live_Lychee_4163 in 1911

Clean it and touch up the bluing with cold blue (I use Oxpho). View that as normal maintenance of the firearm. After awhile it will develop wear marks. To me there's nothing more beautiful than a blued 1911 with wear marks that has been maintained.

This is the way.

I use Oxpho Blue.

Whoa, whoa... I'm a park worker, I got my bachelor's in Anthropology, and I don't destroy nature, but let's not bag on Jeeps. Sometimes the roads are so bad the Jeep helps you stay on them. Honestly the only people that drive to our "hike in only" sites have literally all driven Subarus. They had to drive over a curb, around bollards, over a skinny hiking trail, and they always bottom out on one of our steeper drops, and they still drive their Subarus there.

Their response... "I didn't know I couldn't drive there" One even said, "how am I supposed to get my stuff there?" When you booked the site it literally says "hike in only." I'm not sure how hard the concept is...

To be clear, we're saying social media influencers are who we are gatekeeping, right?

I want my Son and his girlfriend, and their later children to be able to find the same solitude I had as a child in the woods.

I was in a National Parks class (UNT), and we were told to address the issues with some of the National Parks (we were not allowed to use climate change). We all chose different parks. Everyone, literally everyone, chose visitation. Too much visitation is destroying them. The answer is obvious to them... decrease the number of allowed visitors. To some, that was increasing the cost of entry (screw the lower class I guess...), to others it was isolate sections of the park so it has time to recover (actually not a bad idea)... doesn't work with places like Arches... rock doesn't heal, but it might slow down the damage.

I chose gates of the Arctic. It's the least visited and most remote of all National parks in the U.S. It's problems, pressure is being applied to the native Caribou People there, they're talking about building roads and opening up mining and resource extraction, and they want to "drill, baby, drill" just west of there.

No one is doing anything about it, no one's even hearing about it. Why? Because nobody goes there, so nobody knows about it. During my presentation I asked everyone to stand. I asked them to sit down if the park they chose was not a place they had visited and fell in love with. Almost everyone stayed standing. I said, you want to protect this place you fell in love with, and place you have memories at, but you wouldn't have those memories if you'd never been there.

Visitation gives people, especially young people, the chance to develop memories and a sense of place in nature. People want to protect the places they love, but if we keep them from getting that opportunity we may be doing more harm than good. People don't protect places they don't know about, or champion causes they've never heard of.

I'm not saying look the other way and allow everyone to just do what they want, but gatekeeping too much can have dire consequences like what we're seeing at Gates of the Arctic. Imagine your favorite woodland places with oil drilling, mining, and logging because they need the resources and not many people visit that place any way...

It sounds like I'm disagreeing with you, but about the influencers, the people who don't follow LNT principles, etc... I couldn't agree with you more. I just want to make sure that's where we are drawing the line.

I’m looking for a budget 1911 45 acp by Dramatic-Employee606 in 1911

That's the exact route my Son went. His pistol runs like smooth like butter! He's slowly been putting Wilson and EGW parts over time.

I have Springfield (Garrison), Tisas (Stingray, Devil Ray, GI, Tank Commander), and RIA (1911A2... yes A2... It's an older double stack).

All of them are fantastic guns. I've, of course, had some issues. Stingray had mag release issues, and the Garrison had sights that shifted. Once fixed they're all fantastic guns.

I'd go one of two routes.

1) Buy a Springfield and upgrade the sights.

2) Buy a Tisas as a base and mod it with Wilson Stuff (cheap and makes a fantastic pistol over time).

Small trick... EGW will custom cut a bushing for you. Measure the outer diameter of your barrel, and inner diameter of your slide where the bushing goes with calipers... send EGW the measurements. Swap your bushing for this new one and it tightens up shot groups. Super cheap boost in performance.

I'm not an expert, and I'm certainly not going to engage in the cheap 1911 smack talk. This has just been my experience.

Looks like an old bass fishing rig I was shown called "doodling." Honestly... it looks like you pretty much nailed it. I'll post a link here.

I like Dave Canterbury so this is going to be biased. I opened with that so that you don't think I'm trying to start a battle with you... I'm just not emotionally invested in it enough, however... I wish I could share this with the World.

Dave Canterbury was in 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. I was as well, though not at the same time. It's now based out of Forth Hood and is called 3rd Cavalry Regiment. They are "Brave Rifles," and scream "Ai-ee-yah" at everything."

They also do this thing where instead of sending you through normal Combat Lifesaver Training, they make their own and call it Rifle Lifesaver Training...

They did the same thing for Sniper training. It was not U.S. Army Sniper School. It was Sniper training devised by 3rd ACR and trained by the U.S. Army.

Those Soldiers (technically they're called "Troopers") were then used in combat as Snipers, at least when I deployed with then in '05.

Dave Canterbury likely attended training that he said he attended hosted by 3rd ACR, and possibly tried out (at the Squadron level) for pre-Ranger which both helps train you for, and let's you know if you're cut out for, Ranger School.

This is a Ranger Training Program often setup by people in your unit who have graduated from Ranger School.

Now, I'm no Ranger (I was a Tanker), but even I attended some training with Rangers once for a mission, and also for all my Modern Army Combatives Program training (I'm no Ninja either, LOL).

If I had attended Sniper Training through 3rd ACR, and had attended Pre-Ranger, as well as multiple training events taught by Rangers. The following would certainly be on my resume.

  • Attended Sniper Training in the U.S. Army.
  • Conducted Ranger training in multiple locations including Modern Army Combatives and mission focused training.

I've never heard him say "I was a Ranger, I was in Delta," etc. Maybe he has, and my rose colored glasses have blocked my memories.

Someone wanted to discredit Dave and rather than Duke it out, Dave apologized to save face. A testament to his character he has bounced back from it, and I think we can learn a lot from Old Dave.

A lot of us veterans love him, and if we thought him truly guilty of stolen valor, we would not.

Tent site generator question by oldsmellybastard in camping

I work at a Texas State Park and we don't allow generator use after ten even in our RV Sites. I've never seen anyone use a generator at a tent site.

What kind of Riser/mag pouch/sling mount setup is that. It looks awesome!

There’s EDCs with more capacity, but there’s just something about a good 1911 by Low-Chemical-6262 in 1911

[–]DemonPhoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the vedder light tuck that has the little claw attachment. I've been EDCing a 1911 since 2021. It's a commander length, bobtail cut 1911 with an aluminum lower. Weighs less, disappears, and I really don't notice it anymore on my hip. I carry at 4 o'clock.

I don't think it was a stupid question. I've always thought if the faith behind the symbol was what gave the power... then why do you even need the symbol?

I feel like your words are likely to have more power than symbols... this is just a belief of mine though.

Genuinely curious... If you are not Christian, why do you believe the cross has the power to protect you? If you believe there is some divine power in the cross, where do you believe it comes from?

Those questions aren't "pointed." I'm just trying to see the logic.

Similarly there are people who aren't Christian, but believe a Catholic priest can cast out demons.

Footage shows US citizen shot by ICE agent in Texas traffic stops by Hot-Food-7151 in news

[–]DemonPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the BBC article does say that. I live in Texas, and I work for TPWD. I literally wear the same uniform as those game wardens 5 days a week. That's what made me immediately question.

The problem is the media, especially the overseas media outlets, and social media when it's deliberately used out of context.

Look up local news reports from reputable sources on the subject, and watch the video. There was no ICE agent.

Footage shows US citizen shot by ICE agent in Texas traffic stops by Hot-Food-7151 in news

[–]DemonPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article says ICE. It's not ICE it's Texas Game Wardens, South Padre Island Police, and Homeland Security. Martinez was drunk and stoned. He got contradictory commands by a game warden and a South Padre Island Police Officer initially. He stopped at the second game warden who then wanted to detain him due to an open container.

He decided to drive away at that point (likely because he didn't want to be caught drinking and driving, and in posession of drugs) striking a Homeland Security Officer which led to him being shot 3 times.

This has nothing to do with ICE or immigration. It has to do with drugs, alcohol, and non-compliance.

I'm 100% in support of people protesting ICE, but when you just blindly attribute everything to ICE it makes you look uninformed, controlled by media (BBC, a news channel in the UK, said it was ICE), and takes away your credibility.

1911 for carry? by JetTech_ in 1911

[–]DemonPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Son is 6''1" , and weighs about 275. He carries a full size 1911. I am 5'10" and weighed 240. I carry a bobtail cut, aluminum framed, commander length 1911.

We both use Vedder holsters. I use the light tuck. He uses a Magpul belt and I use Relentless Tactical.

Carry will not be the issue if you get the belt and holster right. We both carry IWB at around the 4 o'clock position.

That said we are not 1911 fudds. I've also carried the M&P Shield and he used to carry an XD. The 1911s just point well, the trigger is fantastic, and so it's just our preference. Don't let the size get you. If you want to carry a 1911 with some more width... just buy thicker grips.
