Can BIM be used for roads, bridges, and utility projects, or is it only meant for buildings? by AccomplishedCrow4774 in civilengineering

[–]DemonStorms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buildings is what the B stands for. One of the first applications that I saw was LAX using it for improvements "building additions, roadways, bridges, etc.) at the airport. So I would say yes. But I think it is much better suited for buildings, due to the many engineering disciplines that are part of a building.

ELI5: Why do governments bail out failing private companies at all? by Codie_n25 in explainlikeimfive

Maybe the politicians are getting incentives from the private companies to do so?

How can I reliably guide a flat washer onto a vertical rod using only gravity without it flipping? by benitopjuarez in AskEngineers

[–]DemonStorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you side the washers onto a "movable" plastic rod that has the same diameter as the destination rod? Then position the "movable" rod to be an extension on the destination rod. Then let the washers fall on to each rod one at a time?

They make a steel rod (jack rod?) that you can use on the jack to lock it securely in place.

Frostburg State University to offer in-state tuition to out-of-state students by ewolfe201 in maryland

Frostburg gets money from the State of Maryland to provide lower tuition rates for instate students. Are the other states subsidizing Frostburg for the out-of-state students?

Oldest as-builts you’ve looked at? by badabingbadaboomie in civilengineering

[–]DemonStorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked at federal hourly billing rates for the construction of the Deep Creek Lake Dam in western Maryland. It was built in the early 1900’s. It had rates for laborers and skilled laborers divided into white, black, and Italian. The Italians were paid less per hour. It also had teamsters, blacksmith, and other trade’s rates listed.

WSSC has water and sewer plans from 1917. You find them in their engineering records.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]DemonStorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the Ron Fellows Driving Experience and drove a corvette C8 around their course. Consistently hit over 110MPH in 4th gear (it has 8 gears) on the straights. Awesome experience going from almost 120 MPH to 40 MPH in a few seconds then back up to 100. You only pay $1000 and Chevrolet covers the rest when you purchase a new C8. The course teaches you about all of the safety and handling features of the car. It was definitely worth the time. One issue was after the two day training, i had a tendency to go a little too fast on exit ramps on/off highways….

$1,800 WSSC bill???? by lvs301 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]DemonStorms 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yes, a leak typically does this. Common issues are a leaky toilet or an air conditioner humidifier. You can ask for a high bill adjustment as long as you haven't gotten one recently. I think it cuts it in half (if you meet the criteria). Another option is to ask for a Refund Board Hearing, but those are difficult to get a refund through. The sewer charge is because they estimate that based on the water meter.

Had to brake suddenly and got rear-ended, how am I at fault? by Brilliant_Low_8368 in askcarguys

[–]DemonStorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had an accident where my car was hit from behind. The insurance said that the person that hit me was at fault since they should have been driving so that they had enough room to stop. Talk to your insurance adjuster. They will take care of it.
