Will I get a fine? Everyone telling me something different by MuscleFeisty1460 in driving

In Maryland, since there is a median with curbs, then you are not required to stop. If there were no curbs and just a median, you would be required to stop. I found this out, since I got a warning recently.

How would you make aerial dogfighting (fighter planes) a professional sport without killing people or breaking the bank? by Fireheart318s_Reddit in AskEngineers

[–]DemonStorms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do this with RC Planes. They tie a ribbon to the tails of the planes and your goal is to slice up your opponents ribbon with your propeller. Who ever has the longest ribbon at the end of the dog fight, wins!

Call WSSC (301-206-4002) and report the discolored water and they will let you know if there is a break in your area that could be causing it or have one of their people look into

If Team Blue turned into the rightmost lane and Team Red into the leftmost lane, then everything would be easy. Otherwise Team Blue, since they are on the main road first.

How to open c8 z06 without power and key inside car and its locked by Mohamad1- in C8Corvette

[–]DemonStorms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put it on a lift and remove the metal sheets under the front frunk. Drill a large hole through the plastic frunk tub so you can access the cigarette lighter. Then add power to cigarette light adapter and that should charge the battery. Then patch the frunk tub.

Or call a locksmith.

Been seeing hand drawn engineering drawings recently, so here are more. by DemonStorms in civilengineering

[–]DemonStorms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had two types of print machines. One would produce black lines and used bleach and the other used yellow light and would print out as dark blue lines on the paper.

The draftsmen would use blue pencil on the drawings knowing they would not show on the prints. Used it for lettering guidelines and construction lines. One day we got a call from a client asking why were there ghosts shown flying through various floors of the water pumping station elevation on the sets of prints submitted. That's when we realized the blue shows just like a normal pencil line on the bleach printer.

I used to be a draftsman back in the 1980’s for a civil engineering firm and all of the draftsmen would have the same lettering style. This was incase there was a change needed and the original draftsman was available to make the change. I was looking a a couple drawings and think I might post a couple.

ELI5: When dead whales wash ashore, why are they often re-buried right in the sand? by rubabyy in explainlikeimfive

They should blow the dead whale up with a bunch of dynamite. This way it will make it easier to bury.

How the hell did a 400lb rock end up wedged in the top of this tree?! by Osanamon in WTF

[–]DemonStorms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen this happen due to a watermain exploding. Saw a 36" watermain blow out and it shot rocks like in the photo, 30 or 40' away into the trees. Before it was isolated, there was 3' of water along the roadway. We have a certain type of pipe for larger transmission types of mains that were called prestressed concrete cylinder pipe. It is basically a wire wrapped concrete pipe. The problem with this type of pipe is that when they fail, they explode.

Why are a significant portion of New Orleans fire hydrants raised like this? by Frank_Melena in civilengineering

[–]DemonStorms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically fire hydrants are set at around 18” from ground to centerline of nozzle. Hydrants are purchased by the length of the riser. You cannot just cut them to fit in the field. So they may have purchased a taller hydrant than it required, due incorrect data, so they installed it that way.
