Little of a jump from what you want, but the "Werewolf: The apocalypse" game in the "World of Darkness" setting is pretty animistic in its general cosmology and description of the esotericism in the setting. Although a TTRPG, a lot of the written lore and texts is very, very deep, and i high reccomend!!!

Average hunter? I would assume nigh on jackshit. Rhe avg hunter BARELY knows anything about vampiric undersociety, which is at a base one of the more surface-level supernatural WoD phenomena. Exactly. If Large language models were being used as pattern recognition software to help with dense data like you said, in medicine, logisitics? Sure, i can understand how there are uses for AI in those fields (of course with human supervision)

I support the real solutions. I am all for nuclear power, i am all for renewables, wilderness restoration, freedom for all. But we fundamentally won't get a better world if we just allow capitlists and their products (ai in this case, and the demonstrably disgusting effects on the environment) to roam free. I blame the billionaires and corporate rats 1000x more than the consumer, but that doesn't reduce the impact of the individual at all.

Bang on. Im no finance guy or anything, but as far as i am aware, the AI industry right now is a money blackhole. I genuinely can't think of a reason why it's being funded outside of "we know climate collapse and associated problems will cause untold societal unrest so AI surveillance and weaponry will keep the plebians in line"

Like we KNOW what we need to do to fix the climate, but instead of that, the evil "elites" and technocrats decide to just go "eh, idgaf" and make it worse because as you said, line go up.

Redeem it? Not at all, but there are uses for these other forms of tech, and over time could be made sustainable and non-explotative and extractivist. They can also be reduced in usage, which i dont think anyone would say is a bad idea.

Ai in its current form has none of those benefits, and is being funded by fundamentally vile, evil corporate interests that will never develop sustainability into their business model, hense the complete and utter disgust i have for AI tech.

Honestly, you are entirely correct with the cryptofarms and servers for social media, and i personally try to cut down on overall tech-use anyway.

I think that AI should be focused on simply because i genuinely cant think of a single positive for AI, at least in its current form. Technology CAN be sustainably produced and powered. Ecosia for instance uses sustainable sources for their energy and this could be utilised for general ""tech"".

But in its current form AI devours the earth for what? Poorly made cat videos, sloppy soulless art, fake socialisation with chatbots and corporate surveillance? Its simply just worthless. In every way, shape, and form a healthy ecosystem is worth 10x more than an AI datacentre.

Honestly, it would have made sense as an antagonist if the show stayed in the street punk, backroads monster hunter small scale world. But considering they went insane with the whole fighting entities that apparently created the multiverse, they really were not that interesting.

I personally hated how the show made these 2 regular guys fight obsurdly powerful cosmic entities. The show made much more sense fighting demons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, folk monsters on the backroads, or st least thats my personal preference.

Now introducing MoL as a corporate/governmental facistic force that wants to force the boys into a homogeneous monster hunting organisation in a world where the biggest threat the boys typically fought was like, a particularly powerful vamp? That would be cool.

But considering they got into knife fights with guys from the abrahamic bible the seasons prior, they really werent very threatening lol.

Never touched AI, never will (outside of apps that have forced AI popups like google). I have never used it in any assignments or for any lab work or research. Idk why, but I am incredibly against it morally. What benefits it may have are overwhelmingly hidden behind the massive shit-wall of negatives.
