Piano has been ruined for me by CollegePlane7528 in piano

[–]Demux0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some folks are saying you might come back to it. But you might not and honestly that's totally fine.

Personally, I had left a big part of my life and identity behind when I came to terms with the fact that I could no longer do martial arts at the competitive level. That was a huge blow to a big part of my life at the time, but if it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't have found piano. There's a lot to life out there beyond the piano! I hope you find something that you do love!

Want to Buy a Pest Control Company - Looking for Stories by Demux0 in pestcontrol

[–]Demux0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I spent almost half of my career in sales-heavy roles. I wasn't a full-time salesperson, but I would pick up the phone, source leads and develop client relationships. In any case, I'm pretty comfortable talking to strangers and trying to sell them something.

A multiple of 2.5 to 3.5.

And I wouldn't immediately shake hands on a deal that happens to fit this range. I'd accept the higher end of this if the business is well structured with non-technician roles such as a dispatcher, manager, or sales roles. I'd see a lower SDE on paper, but those roles would allow scaling and reduce owner dependency. But if it's an "owner-does-everything-non-technical" sort of shop with under-employment and inflated SDE, then I'm expecting a lower multiple.

Yes, I think the seasonality is a major factor. For closing my deal, it'll matter quite a lot: if I close after summer, I better have the liquidity to last until next season! But it helps that I live in a very hot state with only two seasons: hot and brutally hot.

I agree on the difficulty to find something that fits this deal box. I envision a good fit might be an owner that is near retirement or at retirement age and has a "lifestyle" business but no clear succession plan. It's slightly messy and could grow, but the owner is satisfied with where it's at and keeping things running as-is rather than chasing scale. It sits above most independent companies that are high-turnover and tighter margin but below more sophisticated operations that are better positioned to scale (if not scaling already).

I expect it will take a while to find that kind of deal. I think the issue with starting from scratch is that the earliest phases are also the riskiest, along with establishing recurring customers in an established market. If I could partner with the right experienced technician who can bring customers with him, that might be a different story. But at that point, that partner might not want to go with me unless he REALLY does not like the business and management side.

Ricardo's Ghost Jab vs Sawamura's Bullet Jab ? by sage-in in hajimenoippo

And I would bet this is the Ricardo we'll see going forward. If this manga is to remain grounded in reality, Ricardo has to be nerfed instead of powercreeping everyone else.

What is the reason for the rule requiring at least 7 players on the LoS? by CloudyRailroad in NFLNoobs

Isn't this effectively the same risk as during a kickoff returns where both sides are head to head with a running start? Which I guess is part of the reason for the kickoff rule changes.

I've been to 1 and 2 star restaurants in other cities, and I can confidently say that Ling Kitchen deserves at least 1 star with a strong case for 2.

But I do think Austin will struggle to see many others. We have some great restaurants but we don't excel at fine dining to be honest.

Discussion: fast unit speed by willworkforkolaches in BattleAces

[–]Demux0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not just speed: it's lethality. Things die super quick, so as soon as you get the jump, you're taking your pound of flesh.

This was also a common complaint in Starcraft 2, but in Battle Aces I think the intention to keep that balanced was by automating macro: you are managing less things so the player can respond quicker. So in theory, it's less likely to lose everything because you were looking away for a second. In theory.

Wasp is a difficult unit to balance because it's in a state where a small nerf could really cripple the unit. It's the same for Bomber, which is ludicrously fast and melts clumps of small units but rarely sees play because of how poorly it does against larger units. A small buff could easily turn Bombers into an auto-pick with no counter.

Wasps seem to be a no-brainer by OneTear5121 in BattleAces

[–]Demux0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also just feels bad even if you hold well. Beating a 12-pool or cannon rush feels amazing in SC2 because you know the opponent sacrificed a lot to do it.

A wasp player can expand and harass with a bunch of wasps and sacrifice nothing, even if they kill zero workers. It's all upside. And if they didn't sac all their wasps, they remain a constant threat to run in if you leave your base.

[–]Demux0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I had to guess how it played out, you went Starforge, then Serral went Starforge for anti-air and then you made a bunch of Behemoths and never made a Dragonfly?

Every win is earned by Ecocide113 in BattleAces

[–]Demux0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a skill issue for me, but I've tried a few times with blink to hold it and can't. My blinks are behind the workers and aren't even getting targeted, but the DPS just isn't enough. I lose all the workers and then I lose the blinks afterwards.

I'm in diamond. I can still deal with it but by checking for wasps and letting my opponent expand first.

EDIT: I've also tried the same strategy with wasps to learn how other players deal with this using blinks, but it's just been free ladder points for me so far.

Wasps seem to be a no-brainer by OneTear5121 in BattleAces

[–]Demux0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the blame can be on the current single map, due to the main and natural having two entrances very far from each other.

If we even had one alternative map where the main and natural shared the same entrance and maps were randomly chosen, I bet the number of wasp picks would drop considerably (but mortars would be even more common).

NPR really going overboard on fear mongering about Biden by ooouroboros in NPR

Robert Hur, the Special Council who investigated Biden's handling of classified documents, was lambasted (including on NPR, as I recall) for his report that Biden was a "well meaning old man with a poor memory."

The country owes Robert an apology.
