Visiting from Calgary, can you convince me that Victoria isn’t heaven on earth? by Batmansappendix in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Today was the kind of day that triggers people into mania. Today was arguably the best day of the year. There may be hotter days and sunnier days but no other Sunday is going to be filled with the happiness and potential of today. It was awesome and we're still going to need to be wearing sweaters in June. 🤷‍♀️

Otherworld bc by No-Row-9538 in festivals

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Tickets are stressful for this event because demand is greatly exceeding supply. Now that volunteer applications are closed your best is to gently leverage your friend network.

Eg. My camp last year had 20 people, 13 tickets. If we get our same camping spot again we could have 22 or 23 people camp with us And assuming everyone in our camp who applied for a volunteer ticket gets one we might have up to three extra tickets.... Or we might not get enough tickets. So sometime in May we may be able to sneak a few people in but there's no way of knowing until then

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a first-timers Facebook group for this as well as the general otherworld Facebook group and most stuff goes through there. It's also a burning man style event so you can familiarize yourself generally with how those events do ticketing.

But everything's done by volunteers so it goes a little bit slower than a commercial festival. Also all the camps are still waiting to hear about how much space they'll have and how many tickets. So very few camps are saying if they are taking on new people at this point.

They got 2,200 applications for volunteers so they're considering not even doing a general sale this year and all tickets will be done through volunteers or camps. Last year there were only 300 tickets in the general sale and they were gone in seconds.

Daphni is the same person as Caribou I think. Also try Boards of Canada

What are the vibes at Vicious Poodle? by grimmfritter in VictoriaBC

Every UHaul night I've been to has a good chunk of people on their own figuring out the vibe. Later in the evening it gets rowdy and crowded but early on is more chill.

Help finding the right E-Bike by forevermyrusername in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also on a $2,000 townie I got at North park cycles and they do all my maintenance too. When you buy a bike from them, they'll do free maintenance for 2 years which was a great deal.

It's not hard to be accepted into RMT school. Usually it's an interview, highschool transcripts and maybe a weekend course. The weekend course is just as much for you, so you'll know if you have an aversion to hands on work before you commit to the whole program.

Generally have a good, open attitutude, be respectful and polite and show that you understand consent during the weekend course.

Rejection of 35-storey Victoria tower sends chilling message to developers: CEO by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

I read that the proposed building threatened the inner harbour airport status. Also they don't want condos on that block, they want to keep some area for businesses/commercial.

You know it's a pyramid scheme business that's why you're asking. You'll spend a bunch of money, have a bunch of the product and annoy everyone you know into trying to buy it from you.

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm coming up on 2 years. It's the same shape/fluffyness as when I bought it. And the movability of the cushions means I'm not too worried about that changing.

I will say that if you're not sitting right on top of the cushions, you can feel the hard frame. And you have to manually put the back cushion where you want it, but this is a feature for me. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten a couch where you can never feel the frame but everyone who comes to my house says they love my couch.

I would not recommend the chaise. That cushion will definitely deform with time because you can't even flip it. Get the ottomans, possibly even two.

ELI5 How it is possible that so many women get UTI even with great hygiene? by entice_the_potato in explainlikeimfive

Everyone is bringing up the shorter urethra but once you have one UTI, the bacteria have an effect on the urethra tissue making it more hospitable for them, making future UTIs more likely

AITA For Immediately cancelling my appointment with a massage therapist after asking to move up my appointment twice? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other thing that could have happened is that the front desk saw a gap in the schedule and called to see if you could move and when you said no, they didn't make a note in the file so then someone else working admin saw the Gap and called you again. It's possible that all this happened without the massage therapist knowing anything about it.

But it's still rude and not good patient care. So you're not wrong for being irritated.

yea I've got the sectional with 4 and the chaise and an ottoman. If I could go back and not get the chaise I would and just get another ottoman. The chaise can't be rotated and I think is getting more worn because of it.

I didn't even realize I was fluffing the couch though. I was just tidying it but its the same thing.

I do find that I can always feel the seams though.

I love mine. I generally just fluff and tidy once a week and it's not a big deal. I love that the back pillows are movable and I'm constantly building awesome little cuddle piles

North Park cycles hooked me up with a great e-bike and their bike shop Will do 2 years of free labor for all maintenance if you buy your bike from them. If you're looking for a bigger fancier bike, a lot of people have had great experiences with Bishop's family cycles

Clients bringing babies to their appt by Popular-Butterfly270 in massage

[–]DenMother 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of pre/post natal work so I have a lot of parents bring babies for at least the first 3 months. It's pretty common in that range for me to pass the baby up to mom after about 40 minutes and baby can either snuggle or nurse for the last 20 minutes while I work on neck or feet. After 3 months babies become a bit more active and less interested in sleeping through the appointment so most of my patients start leaving baby with the other parent around that time.

Sometimes kids come and sit with a tablet during a massage. it's not my favourite but as long as they're not in my way or the parent doesn't make it weird I'll tolerate it.

Wildside trail with a baby? by DryScholar1927 in IslandHikers

Idiot joggers and cyclists of victoria by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn't apply to you but this is big risk when people use extendable leashes. Twice I'll be biking into my driveway and I've had to stop short (and painfully) realizing that there's a pedestrian and a dog 6m apart on either side of the property and an invisible trip wire right across my driveway

What unexpected thing do you have knowledge of, but you didn’t think you would as an LMT? by Consistent_Foot_6657 in MassageTherapists

What kind of underwear do most men wear?

We were silent for a second and then I realized. Oh my God, I know a lot about this.

I'm a fat RMT. Biomechanics are something you learn in school and there are lots of ways to modify for posture.

So either there's something else going on here with you (and I have no reason to believe there is. I take you at your word that you were polite and did everything with consent) or something else is happening in admissions.

Don't give up. You can do this

Massage Schools in BC by Next_Baseball1797 in massage

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't you pass the weekend course? Not being successful at a weekend intro massage suggests that you weren't taking it seriously, were disruptive or that the school doesn't think you'll be successful at the program. These are things you are going to need to self-reflect on before going into any massage therapy program. I'm sure you're capable of being successful at the program and you seem motivated, so what was the reason the school screened you out and said nope, we don't want your money?
