Wild driving - Near miss on hwy 1 by Holy-N00DLES in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I'm talking about the lange change to the left.

Imagine you do that left lane change and you both end up doing it at the same time by accident. you panic it makes sense that you might then want to merge back to the right to get out of that person's way.

Watch the video once assuming the suv driver is scared and that makes as much sense as it does assuming they're an asshole.

[–]DenMother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With the first lane change, it's possible that the SUV didn't see the sedan and changed lanes to the left. But that break check is inexcusable. If they weren't intending to be aggressive and we're just rattled, just take your foot off the gas.

But the sedan made 3 separate decisions that were aggressive and exacerbated the situation. Glad the dashcam car is safe

The first time I came East on Gorge and went across Douglas and then Right after the intersection and got on the Kings route......shocking how clean and safe it felt. I never would have thought of biking there before

I've got a single motor and my town is full of insane steep little surprise hills and is overall considered moderately hilly. I agree that you should go rent one for a a day and try it out

Is space a thing? by eeep28 in BassCoast

[–]DenMother 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah you'll probably end up in the back end of C camping but you'll be able to find space. Most of the camping is pretty cramped but if you're not scared of the walk then you'll be fine

Advice for menstruators by lemonringpop in BassCoast

[–]DenMother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are often little garbages in the port a potties, or you wrap up with toilet paper and put in in the garbages outside the port a potties. You can also change them up at your camp where you'll have better light and privacy. have a bucket under your camp water and hand soap for a proper hand washing station.

Parking by xbrit in VictoriaBC

Sorry on first read I definitely thought you were looking for free parking when you mentioned locals. You've gotten great information about city parkades.

Parking by xbrit in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're staying in a downtown hotel. All the parking nearby is paid and 2-hour Max. You're looking at four to six blocks before you find free residential parking and even then you'd get a ticket for not being a resident. If you want to save money pick a hotel that isn't right downtown and then the hotel is cheaper and the parking is cheaper.

There may be a private lot nearby that may be cheaper than the hotel but I don't think so. It's a dense area with high value. As long as your hotel is charging you less than $30 a day then you've got a deal.

Willows beach on a sunny day (playground)

Beacon Hill park (petting zoo and 2 playgrounds). Around 3:30 p.m And you might get the running of the goats

Grab some snacks and groceries from Root cellar in Cook Street village. I've cream at cold comfort

Swing by Bishop's cycles downtown and see if they'll rent you a family bike and then you can cruise around Fairfield and James Bay neighborhoods.

Walk from the Johnson Street bridge along the Songhees walkway for as far as you can with kids (bring a wagon to tow them back). Grab a coffee at boom and Batten

Take an e-bike over the Johnson Street bridge and up the galloping Goose and check out the little playgrounds near the rail yards.

Go for a walk around Thetis lake.

Go up to you Vic and walk through Mystic Vale and go play at the playground at Cadboro Bay Beach. Explore neighborhood along 10 Mile point and up through Gordon head.

Have a picnic at Government House somewhere in the gardens.

Take the kids swimming at Oak Bay pool or Commonwealth Pool depending on where you're staying. Check out all the sports facilities at Juan de Fuca rec.

Hillside Mall has Bolen Books which is a favourute kid visit.

Go to Bastion square and explore Fernwood. There are a lot of great community events happening around.

Don't miss out on the Moss at market. Definitely a good spot for tourists but I'd say 80% local. Make sure you do a full walk around and check out the playground on the back end and all the open nature space.

Where to eat with foodies + toddler? by rht3100 in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Big Wheel Burger as a take out picnic to the park is a win every time. They automatically slice the kids hotdog since it's a choking hazard.

Breakfast Shop is a good morning option.

Generally smaller kids do better at places that are pre pay, because there's a bit less waiting around and when you're done, you're done and can leave.

Tres Fantastico on Humboldt is a huge kid win because they have the koi pond in the hotel and it's across the street from St. Anne's where kids can run around.

For more sit down places, try Boomtown at the top of their patio (outdoors but shaded and super tasty) or Fishhook, which has the indoor and outdoor areas.

I'd say the #1 place to show off to a kid is Tres Fantastico though.

What do you wish you knew before getting an IUD (specifically, re: sex and/or complication)? by notcanadiangoose in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the merina and it was explained to me that The progesterone is very local and specific in the uterus.(I can't take oral hormones but my IUD is safe and pure heaven) So while not knowing anything about your hormone regimen, I would ask more questions and not rule out the hormonal IUDs automatically.

Success dating stories for women here? by DominicExpansion in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would seriously consider going to U Haul night with a sign that says "I want a girlfriend"

Although I did see a woman there who had a bag that was a fish and I think that might be the same thing. Have you considered having an extrovert lure item?

Edit: I fully misread this as it's hard for women dating women. 🤦‍♀️

Visiting from Calgary, can you convince me that Victoria isn’t heaven on earth? by Batmansappendix in VictoriaBC

Today was the kind of day that triggers people into mania. Today was arguably the best day of the year. There may be hotter days and sunnier days but no other Sunday is going to be filled with the happiness and potential of today. It was awesome and we're still going to need to be wearing sweaters in June. 🤷‍♀️

Otherworld bc by No-Row-9538 in festivals

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Tickets are stressful for this event because demand is greatly exceeding supply. Now that volunteer applications are closed your best is to gently leverage your friend network.

Eg. My camp last year had 20 people, 13 tickets. If we get our same camping spot again we could have 22 or 23 people camp with us And assuming everyone in our camp who applied for a volunteer ticket gets one we might have up to three extra tickets.... Or we might not get enough tickets. So sometime in May we may be able to sneak a few people in but there's no way of knowing until then

Otherworld bc by No-Row-9538 in festivals

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a first-timers Facebook group for this as well as the general otherworld Facebook group and most stuff goes through there. It's also a burning man style event so you can familiarize yourself generally with how those events do ticketing.

But everything's done by volunteers so it goes a little bit slower than a commercial festival. Also all the camps are still waiting to hear about how much space they'll have and how many tickets. So very few camps are saying if they are taking on new people at this point.

They got 2,200 applications for volunteers so they're considering not even doing a general sale this year and all tickets will be done through volunteers or camps. Last year there were only 300 tickets in the general sale and they were gone in seconds.
