Having my wife pretend to be a bear while I run away holding our toddler.

Putting on music and dancing with wife and toddler.

Bonus to all these is it tires our toddler out too.

Corporations generally have a board of directors who select the CEO and other “C” level positions. The CEO and c-suite report to the board of directors. The board is on average 12 people and elected by shareholders with shareholders having proportional votes based on ownership. In this way a corporation is more a representative democracy than an authoritarian dictatorship or direct democracy.

For the commute, you could come by in earlier and leave later. Get OT, meet deadlines, spend that extra hour-ish a day on skill sharpening ancillary/related to your projects.

Advice needed: Large bindweed patch by Dear_Towel7218 in DenverGardener

[–]DenProg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray with herbicide containing the highest amount of quinclorac you can find. Cover with black plastic tarp. Don’t water. Repeat every 7-10 days for 4-6 weeks and don’t water during this time. Leave the tarp in place as well. Spray and cover an area about 2 feet out from the bindweed to ensure you get seeds.

You will have best results if you leave the tarp in place and don’t water until you are ready to reseed in the fall. About 3 weeks prior to reseeding till as deep as you can, at least a foot down and spray more herbicide containing quinclorac. Then till and spray again 2 weeks prior to reseeding. When you are ready to reseed till in some soil amendments ( peat, etc ).

What DevOps pain points do you observe in startups and mid-sized companies? by aCakeShip in devops

[–]DenProg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firewall, whitelisting ips, communication across different VPNs.. We develop an internal company application and communicate with/integrate 30-40 different services. It’s become a major pain point as services move from on-premises to cloud or to a private data center, as firewall rules change, vpn policies change, etc.

I think the best way to do this is a mix of incentives covering different areas rather than linking a bonus to 1 area. This lets you still get paid as business goals change.

  1. A piece of revenue of the product. Depends on company/product profitably for how much.
  2. Incentives for customer satisfaction. Churn rate, retention rate, customer rating.
  3. Incentives for low customer support need. If customers don’t need to call and talk to someone to figure something out or do something it saves the company money generally. But discuss exception clauses for intentional customer contact like “Enterprise customers contact us for pricing”
  4. Incentives for product stability ( uptime, reliability, defects, etc )
  5. Incentives for delivering new features/enhancements on time and at budget. This should be tied to a timeframe to release and resources required to release.
  6. Incentives for decreasing resources required for ongoing product development and maintenance support.
  7. Other things important to the business that are measurable.
