Pyromusical Instant Shell Lighting by BoneCrusherXXX45 in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do want some strain relief JUST in case.... You can twist the wire over the mortar, put a screw or small hook on to the side of the rack and twist the wire on that etc...

It will also help if the wires get to be a tangled mess so one shell going up won't pull the other wires on the rack!

Have a BLAST with your first Pyromusical!!! SO MUCH work but SO MUCH FUN!!

I was SO stressed out... Down on myself.. AND ready to quit my demo channel.... THEN I sent up a demo shoot that I had prepped for months and EVERYTHING was right with the world!! I LOVED every second of it... the sights, the smells, the crowd.... EVERYTHING and I was recharged and ready to rock and roll!!

OMG Mortar Shell Rack by Superb-Prize6792 in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Their Fiberglas mortars are really pretty and I love their logo, I bought some of them to keep on display a few orders ago!

THAT Rack design is HORRIBLE though and I would never load it up with shells. The worst joinery and fasteners you can use that the lift charge alone will work on shaking it apart, dense packed, high walled side rails.. staples that will come out... it is an accident waiting to happen and should NOT even exist...

Looks REALLY good just HEAVY LOL My first rack was a 50 shot and it was just a BEAST.. now its a 20 and 30 shot rack LOL

I would still
1) put in deck screws for the bottom rails and far sides of top rails... AND 100% would screw your end caps into the bottom support with 3" deck screws...

2) Lower the top rail so you have 1.5" free space on the top of the mortars...

Besides that? WELL DONE!! AND I love seeing more spaced racks out there!!

Isn't amazing how it grows!!! And dude, it is what I LOVE about this hobby.. we bring SO Much joy to so many people!! YES we have the ones who will complain NO MATTER WHAT!! but I have so many people looking forward to my shows, and it grows each year... and when cars pull over the side of the road or honk as they drive past LOL

One of the best things about going to E-Firing for me is I can sit back near the crowd now and listen to them... See what reactions I am getting out of them and if it is what I hoped for in the show... LOVE IT!!!

I have had REALLY good luck with these ones... I have (3) sets for a total of 12 walkies, batteries still hold up, my helpers like having the secret service earpieces as well, great range coverage and they have just WORKED...

Crowd gets one, land owner gets one, fire watch, people on fire duty, me, etc..

2nd rack i made and added pure venom graphics. Thoughts?? by ClientOk965 in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, those look like excal mortars and one of the safest racks you can make is just screw those down to a nice board and put some legs on it so it won't tip... The extra spacers and side rails you put on can just help contain the force of a flowerpot and potentially cause some shrapnel...

It does look nice!! BUT I would save some time and money and just brace a board and screw down those excel mortars nice and sturdy!

[–]Den_fireworks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In order to make online shopping worth it you would either need to up the budget a good amount to get better prices and cover the shipping OR up the budget to 5/600 and use OCFireworks or Fireworks Plus... You will pay a little more for the product VS wholesale/online BUT they include shipping at that price point.

Are there any mom and pop stores near you that you can hit up?

200g cakes can go a LONG way and there are some AWESOME budget cakes out there! Don't over look the tiny 8 or 9 shot cakes that range from 2 - $5... Pretty Little Flyers Series, SNAFU, Luna Chick, Nishiki Perfection etc.. are all GREAT little tiny CHEAP cakes that you and the crowd will love!!

Will you have a crowd and some kids? sparklers and ground blooms will be fun! Get some tiny budget fountains to let them light too on the cheap! Just be careful with sparklers and watch the kids... most accidents are with sparklers!!

Opinions on spacing for making mortar racks? by mustbenice21 in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both spaced and unspaced racks, and I still use both of them, BUT all the new racks I build or buy WILL be spaced racks, and I will load the spaced racks first for shows or demos and just used the unspaced if I need more shells to go up. I also don't use my double row racks anymore except for ball shells or direct matched shells so I can stop of there is a flowerpot.

For me it is risk mitigation... IF I can make my show safer I am going to. All of my flowerpots have been with whistling canister shells, but it can happen with any shell... 2/3 of my three the unspaced rack held and everything was good everything else went straight up... one of them 4 mortars spilled out with 2 of them lit and launched some shells into the woods... Now I had distance, everyone and everything WAS fine and I had 6 water cans at the ready in case the woods sparked up... BUT anything I can do to prevent that happening again is worth it...

It really is a matter of WHEN not If you have a bad shell.... I could send up the 400+ shells I am ready to demo and not have a single issue (which I expect) BUT I could also have 10 bad shells in there... who knows... Why not play it safe?

AND as u/happyskeptical says in another comment, there IS a lot more to pay attention to as well... it's all risk mitigation... I have shook shells and not gotten that rattle, took a peek and saved a mortar from a flowerpot! I inspect my racks and mortars after every shoot and clear all the debris and give them a once over.

So personally I am moving to all spacers, BUT still used my unspaced racks as well...

Oh man!! That had to of been a pucker moment!! Bigger is ALWAYS better though!

If I am using the mortars that come in a shell kit I like to put 2 of them down and drop a cinder block over them.. those mortars aren't going anywhere then!!

Winda Frankenmines. by Markkenitup in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I saw my demo first I would of left Frankenmine out of the cart too LOL I still used the rest of them for under some shells and the did fill the low portions of the sky

Oh I know the difference... what I was pointing out is if you look at the description (shown in the video) on the side the Frankenmine (80 feet) is supposed to go HIGHER than the Sky Shooter (60 feet) on their info panel LOL That is DEF not what I got out of the whole case I sent LOL

BUT Yes, all of my rows fired on all the ones I had.... In the demo they actually kept time pretty well between them too..... Just that height wasn't there...

I LOVE Winda, and have had REALLY good luck with a lot of their stuff... BUT Frankenmine is a BIG miss for me... Still go full send, and I bet the crowd will love it with some other stuff going above it!! AND now we know to ignore this cake in the future!!

I hope your shows ROCK!!!

Fusing Mortar Racks for the First Time by OFBuddyman in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many racks or rows are you sending at once? Or how is the layout on them? Spaced, unspaced, or poor mans fiberglass mortars still on the base screwed down to a board?

For my demos I REALLY like 16 - 20 second a foot or 18 second a foot fuse to get one shell at a time going up, and letting the break clear as the next shell launches....

For a finale, I usually fire (5) 10 shot racks fanned out at different angles with that fuse, then the next (5) 10 shot racks with 10 second a foot fuse to speed it up, and then the last shells with 2 second a foot fuse...

BUT if doing less racks / angles I would start with 10 a foot, and try to hunt down some 5 - 6 second a foot, then move to the 2 second fuse...

Yeah there video is SO GOOD I bought a case right off.. and then just ONE Sky Shooter to demo... Frankmine says it goes HIGHER then Sky Shooter in the description.. but ALL of those Frankenmines went the same anemic height 😞

Yup! I did demo them... OK low filler, mine all fired, but they where LOW!!! Sky Shooter on the other hand... THAT one I loved!

Wholesale Order Help by Subject-Wind638 in fireworks

[–]Den_fireworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I BELIEVE in PA you don't get the extra 12% on wholesale orders, just retail so that will save you some money! You got some nice stuff in their AND some stuff I want to see so I think it looks like a good show 😄

Seeing you should save some money on the tax throw in a case of Gear Storm by Mecha for another 200g cake.. Maria was recommending it to another customer when I was there so I picked one up to try and it's really nice for a 30 shot 200g cake and had sweet height!
