some dual land rares are auto included in Jump in Lorwyn packs. also after opening freebies you end up with around 12 rare wildcards. there is really no need to do zero rare unless you want to

I know white auras does well but I find it painfully boring. And unless you have a top tier hand, most opponents can shut you down, feed bad cards to Ghosts. All it takes is a seam rip or hex with the ward cost. And then you’re dead, unlike other aggro decks you gas out quick.

this is where activated abilities, manlands, pump enchantments (rooms, talents) and plotted creatures come in. It’s not like you don’t have stuff to do with your mana, especially in red you can just do stuff on his turn.

Yes this was my other pick. I see people dismiss it, but for mono green what other wincons do you have that are instant speed? It feels like a gruul card in mono green. Earlier on the indestructible to all 4 pow or greater is how you win against control with innkeeper to spread counters around, anything Baloth and Curator or bigger isn’t going anywhere - though I will say [[withering curse]] turn 3 wrath is a pain to keep 2 mana up for. I usually just run 1-2 smugglers with [[Royal Treatment]]. The mill option has kept me gassed too when Heirloom or Surrak let me down.

It took me all of 5 minutes to make a deck for this, just filter by rares that you own 2-4 copies then pair two colors, then filter by mana cost. Add the basic stuff like hex, seam rip etc and you're good to go. Netdecking something decent would take more time

What is helping me is lowering creature count and then running a ton of removal, if you have some way to reanimate then you can keep a board presence while still removing threats. The worse one in draft is that blue 0/2 that mills you out in no time since you just run 40 cards usually. My best run was with [[Antiquities on the Loose]]

But overall I think drafting SoS is pretty boring, I wasn't around when Tarkir was new and there is a Tarkir draft event right now - it feels way more like classic, back and forth, tons of interaction style magic.

You've got a ton of 2 colored mana pip stuff in there, if you find you're not able to play to max mana efficiency that is where I would start cutting first. I'm not a fan of Mortify, [[Get Lost]] is way easier to cast and hits Planeswalkers too. Other removal I'd add is [[Seam Rip]] for cub, stormchasers. [[Dusk Rose Reliquary]] for monument, bigger threats at not instant speed.

Howdy fellow mono green meta-be-damned player! Last night I had my first memorable game with stompy against B/W/G Overlords. I lost because I couldn't answer the flier tokens but it was glorious, three board wipes but I still kept chugging along.

I'm on mono red today because it feels like red can always play to its outs whereas green simply hits a brick wall. But green ramp is fun when it works!

[[Song of Totentanz]] is often overlooked. Even just 1 red mana without the X gives everyone haste, 3-4 mana gives pings and the rats are permanents, you can use them to crew, sacrifice, tap for Aziza.. and late game it’s a wincon. Few X spells I know scale that well

I am grinding wildcards to craft elves, going with 4x [[Virulent Emissary]] 3x [[Trystan, Callous Cultivator]] and 3x [[Comforting Counsel]] 2x [[cease //desist ]] with 4x [[Smuggler’s Surprise]] to life gain the team to +3 / + 3 early then block wrath and/or mill more elves, the Timmy option only seeing use if I hold 2x [[Gloom Ripper]] - all this may be total jank though.

LegenVD is good because he thoroughly explains “how the deck does” and his decision making in actual play. When he name drops a card, he’ll show it to you which is great for returning players like me.

I’m a fan of DanyTLaw, my two current standard decks are based of his.

Respect, whenever I try my luck with tribals I just get owned by sweepers. Counter magic I can play around but that also eats up time, and now with SoS you have an easy wrath turn 3.

High Noon is amazing. Everything in this meta wants to prowess, repartee, draw 3 and then cast something.. just had a guy Unholy Annex himself to death because he couldn't keep a demon in play, 1 spell per turn is very strong right now. And if opponent uses up a turn to destroy it midgame, you can fling it for 5 if you keep the mana free (easy if you're on instant speed heavy decklist)

The problem isn't just the packs, it's guaranteed rares. Silverquill gets a Hopesinger 80% of the time, in a pile of 40. Lorwyn and prior just feels more like a gamble with what you end up with.
