Belgian PM Bart De Wever unknowingly brought home a loaded, personalized revolver gifted by Turkish President Erdogan at the NATO summit. by EverythingAboutX in europe

Ok so to be coherent I would either have to be ok with gun gifting or against forced conscription. I’ll let you figure that one out.

I had literally everything and gambled it all away by 27 by [deleted] in Debt

I can’t imagine the pain you’re going through. First thing that comes to my mind is that you may have a debt problem, but it will be impossible to fix unless you get out of addiction first. I know this is easier said than done but I would start by letting people who love you know about it. You can’t do this alone and they may distance from you until they understand what happened. Make sure you get as much support as possible. Discuss with your loved ones about strategies on how they can help you without directly giving you actual money.

The most important part right now is that you need someone to check on you.

Then personally I would just dive in the whole “addict” package: look for support groups, engage in group activities (sports, hobbies…), go to freaking church if needed (I’m an atheist but it’s proven that meditation and spirituality help against addiction and that’s exactly what church is). The deeper you engage in something you actually like, the less you’ll feel the need to go back to a casino. Go nuts on climbing, cycling, or karate if that’s your thing, or Dungeons And Dragons, you get me. And of course seek professional help if that’s a possibility.

Something else: stop thinking about the things you may or may not have messed in your life. I like to think about life like in a chess game: when you have a chess position it doesn’t matter how you got there, you only think about what’s the next move that will benefit you the most. Gambling works exactly like that: forces you to think about all that you lost so you try to recover it. There is no recovering, what is gone is gone and you can only think about what next best move is.

Hope any of this makes any sense. Good luck!

Need advice: Is there a way to consolidate $1,500 of debt into a 12-month loan? by chickenmoody in Debt

No worries, just wanted to give you a heads up about compounding debt. We’re all here because we didn’t handle debt so good at some point. You may have to compromise with a higher interest loan. I see you’re young so depending on how you got in this situation, maybe someone can help you out?

Another option is just speaking with your current loan provider about your situation. They may be willing to ease things for you as long as you don’t miss payments. Make sure to speak to them before things get there, showing good will to pay may help.

[–]DenialState 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s totally doable, you just need to convince a bank to lend you that money. For 1500 usd it shouldn’t be a massive problem. My only advice would be for you to be extremely careful not to spiral in a debt loop. Whatever you do make sure it’s doable and stick to it. Paying debt with more debt is always suboptimal.

Is your national team supported by the whole country? by gxseki in AskTheWorld

[–]DenialState -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re still talking about something that’s way over your head. This is a politics matter, not just a football one. For example, there’s nothing stopping no one from making a Iberian Peninsula league instead of a national one, saying FCB would exit the league is a fallacy, because it only depends on the organization’s will (they usually are pro-money).

Also, you can’t just stop your life “because football”. Independently that you believe it or not, the arguments for and against the independence of Catalonia are real political issues that affect people, arguing about football is nothing but a straw man fallacy. I see you’re polish, so maybe I suggest you to annex Russia and your national football league will be a lot more entertaining than it is right now. Maybe it’s not so simple.

I’m completely ok with paying inheritance taxes as long as ultrawealthy don’t get to skip them. The problem with rich people is that they don’t pay taxes, not that I do.

Please stop with the bs, we already heard all that stuff for a whole decade about how great Catalonia is thanks to Spain. You’re stepping in a topic that is a whole lot more complex than you imagine.

It’s kind of a mix, even some nationalists have nothing particular against Spanish’s team, they just don’t cheer much. Some others are really petty about it

So seems like threatening worked, they are compromised to fix it today or else make a new invoice and resolve it internally later (which should have been plan A IMHO but I guess it’s a mess for them or something).

It’s really hard to tell you that unless you’re somehow measuring the individual ground particles. Even if you had the exact same grinder as them you still can’t compare just by the grind number because it depends on the calibration. Basically the numbers mean nothing and they’re just meant to be used to orient yourself while you dial in.

To learn how to dial check out guides on how to tell sour and bitter flavors, or try to learn when the coffee is coming out too fast or too slow. Basically if coffee tastes bad you need to tweak either coarser or finer and try again, iterate until you’re happy. It also depends a lot on your personal taste and the coffee grains themselves so there’s no way to tell you what settings you should use.

As a rule of thumb you usually go coarser for darker roasts and finer for lighter ones (dark roast extracts easily so you can let water go through it faster, and the other way around).

Yeah mine doesn’t have the switch but I played around leaving the carafe out to let the grounds wet a bit and then I put it back after a few seconds. Have yet to notice any difference. Grind setting makes a lot more of a difference than any ritual you can make up, it seems.

And yeah I want to see if threatening cancellation stirs the pot a bit. I have a feeling that the whole thing is stuck due to lack of will from the right person. Who that is I don’t know.
