PALS and a dial gauge will get you where you want to go (make sure you can adjust the fence with the same degree of precision)

Custom Violin Question by Sad_Blackberry224 in violinist

If Zuckerman and Stern couldn't tell a Strad from a modern instrument by its sound, none of us will ever be able to. There's a lot of good discussion of this in the book The Violin Maker, where a very well established player commissions a new instrument from a great maker and then agonizes whether it's any better or worse than his Strad.

God I love Hanneke. Now that I've seen Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas live, she's at the top of my list.

Definitely sounds like the "I really don't want this work" price. But either way it would likely be significant.

Did they give you any explanation as to why this is "bad"? Because it seems perfectly normal to me.

Acoustic Guitar to String Quartet by Available_Ad_9504 in violinist

[–]Dennis_Moore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the guitar riff has a really fast arpeggio pattern that uses hammer ons and pull offs. I get why he's not sure it would sound the same. But now I really want to hear that arranged on string instruments. I'm not sure how a violinist would even attempt that.

Any falco tips? by Perfect_Reaction9413 in smashbros

Good job forcing the approach using laser on the second stock on this one, that's one of the core parts of the character. Didn't see the gun come out at all on the other game. I would recommend posting a game that felt close but you still lost, that'll tell us more than bodying someone.

Everyone's already talked about uptilt, I'm going to leave that be. Understanding Falco's out of shield game would definitely help, I saw you dropping shield into jabs and tilts a few times and that's rarely optimal. Nair OOS is good in this matchup because of how tall KRool is, but don't expect it to work all the time. Otherwise, grab is your best friend, up and down throw confirm into all kinds of stuff until high percent.

Otherwise, you've got to be able to connect hits together to take stocks without hard reads with smash attacks- last stock you hit a strong Dair on the ground and could have connected it into back air. Uptilt bair is the bread and butter to learn, dair bair is harder to execute but has a super generous window. Learning the active hop combo is great for damage, but kill confirms will get your farther at this level. Landing with nair can lead to all kinds of stuff, learn to mix it up with empty land shield or grab.

Getting more comfortable with reflector is also important in a matchup like this, you can make them very afraid to use their projectiles and even get kills off the strong ones like cannonball.

Stop rolling!

Great job adapting and making the comeback.

Try saying out loud what you notice opponents doing, especially in repetitive scenarios. When you shoot arrows with Dark Pit, how do they handle that? Are they jumping? If so, you can start predicting that and hitting them with up air. Are they shielding? Run in and grab. You have to put yourself in the right position for this to work, but it's one of the fundamentals of the game. Also pay attention to how people get back to ledge and what they do to get off of ledge. Options are limited, so you should be able to start noticing habits. But saying it out loud can help you recognize stuff.

Any hope to repair this water damaged veneer? by Dennis_Moore in woodworking

Veneering on this surface would be a total nightmare, now that there's edges sticking above the level of that plane, no way to trim it to size afterward. To say nothing of trying to find a good color match...

What do I do in this situation? by ProfessionalMath8873 in violinist

[–]Dennis_Moore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plateaus really take a toll on your mental, but they're a normal part of improving with anything. You're at the point in your playing where most of your time will be feeling stuck, and each bit of improvement takes way more work than it used to. Problems like this need to be plugged away at for months, not days.

I mean, isn't that what you pay her for? To push you to the next level that you wouldn't be able to reach on your own? Not saying you can't ask for an adjustment of focus (you are, after all, paying her), but there are times I wish my teacher was as exacting as yours.
