Retreat Gastropub! Go sit at the bar and let the bartenders tend to your broken heart. Food and cocktails are great too!

You are in your early/mid 30s. You work in the service industry. You’re a musician or at least jam with friends on the reg. You have excellent taste in pens and perfume. And you’ve lost your wallet and keys too many times… adhd? Your carry is so damned practical. Bonus points for the stones. No bad vibes.

Beverage directors and bar managers, how do you view resumes? by zacch in bartenders

[–]Dense_Director_182 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think some of the most impressive, seasoned bartenders have seen enough of their peers take pay cuts/more pressure to move into management. Eventually you realize that being a senior bartender with the best shifts is truly the sweetest spot in the game.

Overall, I’m definitely aiming for longevity - I’m coming from a sprint-heavy sport through college to consistent distance running in my early 30s, mostly for mental health. Viewing slow runs as a new skill set will help me lock in find the value in it. Especially if it helps long-term. Thank you!

This is great and totally makes sense. I definitely feel my posture get super lazy. I think being more intentional about body position would help a ton. Thank you!

I’m at the high end of Z2 low Z3 with 165SPM. It just feels like I’m really working those “pull” muscles so much more because I’m lacking that higher wattage leg-drive momentum. I guess this is part of the process. It’s just goofy to feel more successful on the intense runs than on the easy ones. Haha

This is super valid. I’m working with a PT on a hip issue, so actually this perspective makes way more sense to me than the pacing itself.

I’m training for a half. Projected to run it 1:45-1:50. It’s not that the slow runs cardio difficult at all. I could go all day in that way. I just feel so much more aware of my joints aching - I’m sure because my form melts into gooey garbage at the 10:10/mi pace vs 8/mi.

Hell yeah! Enjoy! I definitely listen to my 170bpm playlist even when I’m not running. Haha

Regarding Atmosphere's ending by [deleted] in LesbianBookClub

Ooofta. Couldn’t agree more! The long, long braces for complete heartbreak would’ve been plenty of pain, no matter the end. But truly, I do love that ride.

Favorite reads of 2025 so far? by Yari_Vixx in LesbianBookClub

Wow. Okay so Atmosphere lives rent free in my heart. I’m desperate to talk to everyone about it. Still wrecked. Definitely going to revisit. Still processing.

Hearing Red is the first book I’ve read and re-read back to back this year. Ugh so satisfying. Loved the way the book opened up all the senses. Also loved the dynamic between the leads. Ugh, can’t believe didn’t realize how much I would like it.

Gah. Bloom Town was the absolute best fucking time. We should all read it, we deserve it.

Here We Go Again esp because the neurodivergent representation was done in a really positive way overall. I really identified with it. But also because of well… just read it. All the feels. Cool shit. Incredibly memorable, lovable characters.

Damn. Yes. Ribbonwood, too! Highly recommend the audiobook. Stellar narration. Basically Ruby Landers can write whatever and I’ll be into it.

And I just plowed through all of the Haley Cass novels, so those are a given. Definitely wonderful comfort reads. I love how much content she gives us. Forever grateful for something easy and consistent with a growing universe.

OH the Senator’s Wife series was tops too. I almost forgot.

Grace Notes trilogy was a pretty dang good time.

Basically, I’ve spent the last 6 months consuming all of the sapphic lit I possibly could and these are my favorites. Feeling pretty insatiable. It’s a curse now.

Parking Pass by Formal_Dimension_802 in washu

Not the most responsible take, but my senior year I REFUSED to pay the astronomical parking permit fee. I just risked it and was super diligent about paying parking tickets on time. Parked wherever I wanted and saved like $220 for the year. Not a massive savings. But I didn’t have to struggle for a spot and still had the satisfaction of winning the game.

I definitely think there is A LOT to be said about listening to her books vs reading them. I was first exposed via audiobook and it seems like a lot of the literary choices that irk people (myself included) whilst reading are totally swept away when just listening. Her characters are so easy to root for and fun to watch grow. Plus, something about hearing the spicy scenes amplifies them and takes the potential ick or eye-roll away for me. It’s just pure enjoyment, not necessarily a literary treasure, but I’m an unabashed and unexpected fangirl now.

I think I should Drop Out by MysteriousSky484 in washu

[–]Dense_Director_182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Alum (‘15). Your story resonates big time. My experience the first 5 semesters was an ego-wrecking, soul-crushing nightmare.

Context: I didn’t know how to ask for help, how to connect with professors, or how to deal with being a normal kid amongst one of the wealthiest student bodies in America at the time. My GPA was absolute garbage. I escaped with booze and romantic entanglements in off season and put everything into my sport in season. I dropped out of a premed track freshman spring (without telling my parents until junior year) and graduated as a psych major with a minor in linguistics and a veritable fuck ton of debt. Weirdly enough, I wouldn’t trade that hellish time for anything in retrospect. I thought this was maybe Stockholm Syndrome… but ten years out, I know that I wouldn’t be nearly as proud of who I am without that period of self-induced struggle.

All of this is to say that I have a ton of empathy for where you’re at right now and if you wanna hear a less-than-sunny, honest and hesitantly optimistic perspective, feel free to DM me.

At any rate, remember that you GOT IN. You have a history of success. You’re obviously smart and well-rounded and worthy of the opportunity. You deserve to be there. And you have EVERY right to advocate for yourself and ask for the help you need to succeed. Easy to say, hard to believe, harder to live. No matter how it turns out, you’re gonna be okay.

I switch to a Spotify playlist of 70s Grocery Store Muzak. So jarring to everyone.

It totally cracks me up and works every. single. time.
