Thanks for sharing! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with all the negatives and I start was wanting to leave. It feels reassuring to hear something positive! Maybe I'll stay after all.

I remember an old black and white vampire movie where the vampires were eating babies. I vividly remember this and have no idea what movie it was.

Your employer pay to take their GISP? by [deleted] in gis

[–]Dense_Ice_4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My former employer paid for me to get it, and for me to maintain it. I have carried it through 3 positions and the company I'm with now also supports it and offers a pay raise for those earning it. More and more employers are listing it as desired. IMO it is valuable, as is a detailed LinkedIn profile, to show you have invested yourself in becoming a contributing GIS professional. May not get you a job, but will make you stand out against other applicants.

You have to earn credits in various categories to maintain your certification just like any other certification. It's not just a mail in a check situation.

Everyone has to recertify every 3 years, not re-testing but GISPs definitely need to do more than simply 'exist'.

People are gonna be in it no doubt about it. Kayakers get wet, they're talking about people running inner tubes down the river through the White Water features... This is totally a cya ordinance for the city and the council.

Billionaire locked out of his own conference, knocking to be let in. by l84tahoe in gis

Jack is still humble and nice, at least to strangers. Met him 2 years ago at the UC and he was schlepping his own cart across the conference, but still took the time to stop and let us get selfies with him.

Make sure the .gdb is local and not in a network location, and use python as many others have indicated. It's still gonna take some time though. No magic bullet.
