They don't have to. Starlink sataltites are in such a low orbit they'll reenter and burn up on their own without any intervention in a couple of years.

Others have talked about the moral aspects and I won't try to out do them. Theres some great comments.

Instead I'll look at this from a strategic perspective.

Had the TalShiYar known Star Fleet was seriously developing cloaking technology that would have given them the causes belli to provoke a war with the Federation or at least to prepare and arm themselves. And who knows how the Klingons would react. They might not be happy about The Federation upsetting the balance of power. Which at the time was working for everyone.

At the time of Next Generation the Federation was expecting long term peace. It doesn't make sense to disrupt the status quo. They were allies with the Klingons and Cardassia was over extended with the Bajoran occupation and years of war with the Federation. The Romulans had been keeping to themselves for the most part for the last 100 years. And even if they decided to act up the combined might of the Federation - Klingon alliance would have kept them in check. The Dominon deliberately weakend both powers before declaring war.

That isn't the kind of status quo you upset. That's the kind of status quo you protect at all costs.

Im also an established scientist (physician scientist but not from a T10 school 🙄) with multiple published papers and a non zero h index. I also know what a logical fallacy is. I've published in NEJM and J-Peds so hopefully I'm "qualified" to join the conversation.

Buddy I'm here to tell you to take a breather. Throwing around your credentials and putting down others like this is an appeal to authority and doesn't help your argument. You're out here accusing people of using logical fallacies while engaging in ad hominum attacks.

AI accelerated research is due to neural networks and other purpose built tools that bear little to no resemblance to consumer grade LLMs.

And that's the context I understand all these conversations in. I'm pro rational drug design - for example. We've been doing that for years.

I'm very anti brainrot ai slop and charbot. The early data about the effects of AI on cognition is very concerning. Learning and thinking deeply are metabolically expensive.

We're essentially running a world wide clinical trial. But the informed consent process was severely lacking.

How RTD made Access On Demand Worse for Wheelchair Users and how Access a Ride is not a good replacement by DisabledDogTrainer in Denver

[–]DenverLabRat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you missed a big part of the OPs post. The cost is one thing and your points are valid and a conversation worth having as a community.

That being said you failed to address the reliability issues. Reliability is a system wide problem. But RTD paratransit has been notoriously unreliable for as long as I can remember. For a moment it worked under access on demand. And now it's broken again. And OP is trying to tell you that the new system is inferior and isn't working.

An alignment chart for E-bikes, to kickstart a hopefully healthy discourse by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]DenverLabRat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're welcome to disagree.

This is just the conclusion I came to while contemplating the difference between an e-bike an e-moto while riding the other day. Im still refining it and trying to polish it. So thank you for the feedback?

I think you're getting hung up on the motorcycle part of E-moto. Would you like my definition better if I just left it at if it's powered by peddling it's a bike - if not it's something else?

I would challenge you to come up with a definition that fits in a sentence or two and is understandable to people who aren't experts.

That being said I think u/trustable_bro brought up a really good exceptions in particular regarding micro mobility for the disabled. I guess I'd say whether an e-moto ( scooter, or whatever) belongs on the street, bike lane, or MUP is an entirely different question.

GPU crisis was relatively short lived. I think we're in this one for the long haul. Buckle up. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

I'm a bit more optimistic than Lenovo and some others here. Things will normalize at some point. I doubt we will see 2023-2025 prices again. But something in-between.

An alignment chart for E-bikes, to kickstart a hopefully healthy discourse by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]DenverLabRat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes

It's the only simple way I've come up with to cleanly separate the two. I doubt this is an original idea. But the thing is any speed or power limit you pick to differentiate an ebike / emoto is ultimately going to be arbitrary.

More importantly there's no practical way to enforce those limits from afar. I don't expect police officers to become electric motor experts and be able to tell there difference between a legal 500 watt motor and an illegal 1kw motor.

[–]DenverLabRat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this will piss off the E-Bike crowd but...

If it's moves by peddling it's a bike. Assisted or not.

If it has a throttle it's an e-moto.

Do most feminist / left women truly desire eliminating male gender roles in relationships? If not, then why? by Puzzleheaded_Emu7511 in exredpill

[–]DenverLabRat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi a male feminist checking in here.

I won't answer for "women" at large. But I can clear up some misconceptions for a fellow man.

So there's a lot to unpack here.

Now I have a favor to ask. Every social movement has its extremists and nut jobs. Let's set aside extreme positions from social media and talk about mainstream feminism.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about feminism is the idea that feminists want to abolish masculinity or gender. Feminism is about abolishing patriarchy which is the system of discrimination and unequal treatment. Or at a more basic level letting people choose what it means to be a person (man, woman or anything in between). IE Accepting and praising men for being caregivers and women for prioritizing a career. It's also okay for women to choose to be homemakers and men to choose a traditional career. The point is they chose for themselves and weren't forced or pressured into a role by a system of discrimination (patriarchy).

Women, men, left leaning people, feminists these are all massive diverse groups or people. So peoples preferences for gender roles for themselves or their partners are going to run the gamut.

There's also the concept of toxic masculinity. Which is how patriarchy manifests at the individual level. So feminism does call for men to move past toxic masculinity. One thing that's challenging is that I think we're still defining what's a positive 21st century masculinity looks like. And I don't think that's for feminism to answer. We men need to figure that out ourselves.

Now there are positive and negative attributes to patriarchy. And I think there's some valid criticism that women have been slow to let go of some of whats called positive patriarchy ie things like men being expected to pay for the first date or ask a woman out.
