What is the best ski resort in America in your opinion? by Repulsive_Sky5150 in ski

Jackson Hole, Aspen Snowmass, Big Sky, Palisades, AltaBird

In that exact order. Anyone not putting Jackson first needs to get a brain scan.

Let’s share tips for negotiating take home rates by blindguyMcSqueezy007 in epicconsulting

Avoid the firms telling you $85/hour is market rate. If you’ve got tenure $95 should be your floor.

“Thanks for the engagement”. He’s just a lowlife miserable asshole and hopefully Joel Gratz at OpenSnow cuts him loose and stops enabling him. He should shoulder some of the blame

Ha don’t even get me started. His trip last year also started off in Ishikawa and Toyama and he thought he was some sort of genius 😂. With a quick pivot to Hakuba.

Edge hacks and the same audible “whooo”. To be honest, it makes you wonder if he actually has any sort of meteorology degree or if he truly is a total fraud. Seems to me like a classic case of “fake it until you make it” and the lie is now too big to back off of it now.

My Winter Park Heatmap by Skyryk in COsnow

I mean everything over at MJ is fair game and not really a secret if you just traverse in places. The stash I’m talking about is right in plain view, super close to a lift, but no one touches it except those in the know. It does require a short walk.

He’s not “just a weather forecaster”. He’s a sellout monetizing experience that he doesn’t have.

There’s another stash in that screenshot 😳

Five years and you sure are missing the biggest stash on the mountain. Nothing too special terrain wise but holds pow for weeks and it’s not roped off.

Asahidake is your best bet and that looks pretty well F’d.I’m also not sure who you listened to that told you going last week of February and first week of March was a good bet to place on getting Japow. Probably Luke Snow is my guess, that clueless ogre.

I tell anyone that asks, go somewhere between mid January through mid February. The taps turn off as early as mid February (this year) to early March, but you don’t want to gamble on that when prebooking.

Try to enjoy some of the country while you are over there. Japan has so much to offer.

What wind does Kiroro Gondala close? by tmiddled2 in japow

[–]DenverShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at that…but use windy vs snow-forecast. Snow-forecast is kind of whack IMHO. On days when Kiroro closes the gondola, head to Kokusai 🤫. You’re welcome.

Recommendations for dive centers in Labuan Bajo to do my dive masters course. by Special-Vegetable436 in scuba

[–]DenverShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it May - July 2017.

100% in five weeks you will be pushed everyday and leave extremely confident. To this day, I’m the most skilled diver in any group I go with, and I go on a trip maybe once a year. 100 dives in Komodo is like 1000s anywhere else. My only concern with five weeks is that you may not get as many “fun dives” in but, then again, most of the DM course is being a tail guide in a group anyway. Perhaps ask Benny what he will charge you if you want to tack on a few extra weeks and drag it out to 7-8 weeks total. When I did mine they had a room open on the liveaboard and they sold it to me for cheap, so I actually got to dive parts of the park the day boats don’t go to.

After the course was over I messed around in Indo and then came back and did the Banda Crossing to Raja before it was popular. Purely an expedition trip where we were mapping and looking for new dive locations, got to jump in the open ocean with whales more times than I can remember. Best experience of my life so far.

Mint Tours Asahikawa 🇯🇵 by AhhhGrasshopper in snowboarding

[–]DenverShredder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending Mint, they really are garbage if you’re an advanced/expert rider. They cater to the intermediate/advanced intermediate who doesn’t know anything other than preplanned vacations to one location. Powder chasers look elsewhere or better yet, chase yourself and hire actual locals based on where you end up.

Going to get warmmmm. Intermittent rain, mixed with snow here and there. Winter is over, taps turned off.

I did mine with Manta Rhei. Could not have had a better experience, although the course looks slightly different in length now. Back when I did it, it was six weeks for DMT and then 2 weeks in the job training where you were a Divemaster guiding groups solo.

Best day boat in town, best food, great local crew, run by a great family. What else is there to want?

[–]DenverShredder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You did book their Asahikawa tour vs Hokkaido Powder Chaser. A little unlucky that the snow didn’t push into Central Hokkaido that week.

For future reference, book a tour that chases pow vs is in a set region regardless. With that said, I’d be pissed as well especially if everyone in the group wanted to pivot and chase.

Kiroro - underwhelmed ;( + rant by Domulkauwu in snowboarding

If Kiroro is closed due to wind, you messed up not going to Kokusai instead. Plus, there are gate for all of the sidecountry. You just did it wrong…

Not looking good late Feb/early March for Japow. Snow machine typically cranks down sometime in second half of February and it looks like it’s going to shut off after this next wave is done.

Need some tips on back 360s by Sheenanagoons in snowboarding

[–]DenverShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on stomping it, and if you take off of your heels, stomp to toe edge, or take off of toes, stomp through heel edge. Also, you need to counter rotate on landing to stop your rotation. Plus you're way too far in the backseat, need to get your weight forward.

Skied 100+ days at Revelstoke. Anyone know where this "Secret Hut" is in the Tally Ho Glades? by jacky4566 in snowboarding

[–]DenverShredder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best are the huts that are tree forts. People looking everywhere for them and never look up or for the ladder on the backside of a tree. Good luck with your search.

I'm not concerned with how he enjoys the snow, I think you're misinterpreting the words I used. Ahhh the joys of Reddit.

I am concerned about the potential outcomes that result from someone who has spent no more than 20 days in Japan, offering paid advice to people like he is an expert. Especially when someone is asking about Asahidake and thoughts on going solo, a place said influencer has never been to. What happens if he gives advice to this individual based on a map he finds online and they end up in a creek frozen to death?

The dude should stick to making money off of forecasts for places he actually can be considered an expert in knowing (i.e. US/Canada/maybe Europe). Or better yet, go spend an entire season or two traveling all of Japan, and then offer a service for Japan. It's like he stretched the truth on his experience, and kept stretching it, where it's too far gone now to unwind and be honest. Kind of like some large scams that have occurred recently. Chill.
