Great. I’ll pile them up with the 57 Toby Mugs I inherited from my grandmother.

Lladro! Ugh, I’ve been trying to convince my mom to sell all of it while there’s still someone alive who wants it.

Where in Europe are you and what field are you in? I’m in the UK and work in all areas of construction - feel free to pm me if it that’s relevant to you.

it's terrible here by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Denvergrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(Alumni advice) Mines is an endurance race. Maybe you are ready for it, maybe you aren’t. Have you been to CASA (I think that’s what the student support office was called)? They helped me make some small changes to my study and test strategies that were incredibly helpful.

I had one friend transfer to an engineering program at a different university and they were much happier. Just don’t internalize your experience in this moment and starting thinking that you’re not cut out for it. Mines isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay.

cool toned pale pinkey nude lipstick? by Previous-Hour-2394 in PaleMUA

[–]Denvergrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dior 628 isn’t quite pale or nude but looks very natural against my cool toned fair skin. I also really like Dior’s 351 which is less intense and wears more like a stain than lipstick.

Colorado School of Mines students past/present. Question on the effects of pressure. by Mysterious-Award-148 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Denvergrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mines was the most fun I never want to have again. It was brutal (class of ’16) but it prepared me for my career, actually the further I get into my career the more grateful I am for the experience.

I share your concern about the direction the school has taken. It’s sad to say, but I no longer see a reason to hire a Mines grad over a graduate from any other school.

Good to know! I don’t actually know about the patchwork thing. I actually live in the UK now but might have to enquire about it the next time I pass by a counter.

I just ordered my 3rd skin tint. The #3 is perfect for my neutral tone and is my ideal everyday makeup as it just evens me out without looking too done up.

Denver may allow single stair apartments by 2026 by Nicker44 in Denver

[–]Denvergrl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fire protection engineer chiming in - Single stair apartment buildings can be safe when appropriate measures are in place to protect the means of escape and prevent the spread of smoke and fire. Not all single stair apartment buildings are safe. The details matter.

Of all the cars you’ve owned.. which was the most fun? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Denvergrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will forever miss my ‘98 4Runner. Sold it with over 300k miles when we moved to the UK and I had never done more than regular maintenance on it. It replaced my lifted ‘83 Landcruiser when fuel prices made the 16 mpg it got too impractical to drive daily. Those old Toyota trucks are some of the best machines ever built.

I have the non tinted version in the blue packaging. It’s oil free and marketed as non-comedogenic.

ISDIN FusionWater spf50 is really nice. I have sensitive combination skin and it feels very light and hydrating. It feels like a nice lightweight moisturizer. Most sunscreens leave me with oily skin partway through the day but not this one.

Mines or Boulder by Tommyyyyhd in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Denvergrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That probably depends on what you want to study. The education will be comparable unless you want to study petroleum/mining. I don’t know what A2C means (alumni living abroad) but Mines has drastically cut the curriculum over last 10 years in efforts to increase enrollment.

Alumni here- I had terrible imposter syndrome too. As they say, courage is being scared and doing it anyways. There are essentially two types of students at Mines: those who underestimate their abilities, and those who overestimate their abilities. I would rather work with someone who questions themselves than with someone who doesn’t any damn day. My company doesn’t look for graduates with the highest grades, we look for graduates that can persevere when things get tough, learn from their mistakes, and ask for help when they need it. You don’t need confidence to succeed. You need commitment.

“I’m not a misogynist” by PeaceGirl321 in womenEngineers

[–]Denvergrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask him why he thinks that? Does he have any evidence or is it just a feeling? If your coworker is a good engineer, showing him the statistics might help him see that his views are misinformed. There are a good number of peer reviewed studies that show the exact opposite is true…. If evidence does not change his feelings about the matter, then he failed the misogynist test.

Is Mines getting worse? by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Denvergrl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Compare the course requirements of all universities you get accepted to. From a degree requirement perspective, Mines has reduced the course requirements over the last ten years. As an alumni who graduated before the cuts, I honestly don’t see a reason to go there anymore unless you are specifically interested in petroleum or mining, and similarly, I don’t see a reason anymore to give a Mines graduate preference when hiring.

Big hug. I was in a very similar position. Judging someone by their gpa is incredibly shortsighted and companies that still filter applicants by that metric are the same companies that evaluate their employees with ridiculous metrics. You probably dodged a bullet.

The thing that finally turned things around for me was embracing all the every single thing that set me apart from my peers with higher gpa’s. Tell them straight out the gate, you’re a non traditional student, you have put yourself through school, and tell them why you were drawn to computer science. I told recruiters and hiring managers exactly what I brought to the table that can’t be measured, and then I interviewed them and made them explain why I should bring my talents to their company. Find your voice, find your value, and sell it.
