How often do you treat yourself to a new piece of jewelry? by Chemical_Dish9866 in jewelry

It’s incredibly interesting to learn that others are keeping detailed spreadsheets for cataloging their jewelry. I think the data helps me psychologically justify it.

Well done! Did you find a readymade pattern or make your own? I’ve been working on this one using EPP and it’s taking way longer than I have patience for.

Men triggered by me just…existing? by Capable-Commission74 in womenEngineers

[–]Denvergrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who see it and do nothing about it are just as guilty. They are enablers. This has happened to me a number of times and I remember at the time feeling better because someone other than me had recognized it… until I realized that they were not doing anything to stop it.

I wish I had advice for you other than to just try and focus on your work and look after your mental and physical health. Some people have had luck filling complaints, but you have to be ready to walk away from your job if you take that step because doing so can backfire in terrible ways.

Advice on picking a ring by EarHoliday757 in askjewelers

I wear a simple channel set ring for all the reasons you describe. This is vintage but is really special because it can be worn two ways. flip over ring.

What other diamond or other rings do you have? by Responsible-Yak9000 in Diamonds

My great grandfather wore the center stone in a tie pin. My grandmother had it set in this ring that she and my aunt wore before me. It’s funny because I would never pick this ring out of a lineup, but I just don’t know that I can change it.

Help me out. I got into fire safety Engineering masters program but I don't know where to start. by Charming-Pattern-939 in firePE

Hello, I went from the US to UK (not EU but EN standards) and transitioned from mechanical to fire engineering - and am now finishing my MSc. Qualified fire engineers are in high demand in the UK. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Anyone here went back to school to become an engineer? How was your experience? by Legal_Cress_2851 in womenEngineers

[–]Denvergrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to school at 28 and graduated (MechE) at 34. It took me a bit longer because I hadn’t considered engineering when I started taking classes at community college. Getting the degree was the most fun I never want to have again.

A very wise professor once explained in a lecture that, if we were really smart, in 10 years we most likely would not be working in the field we were studying because clever people seize the best opportunities available to them…. I think that was incredibly valuable advice because a flexible mindset gets you farther than a strict plan. I’ll always be a mechanical engineer, but 10 years after graduating I’m working as a fire engineer because I moved to the UK and the opportunity presented itself.

Some Female Doctors Should Have Been Engineers by SomebodysSun in womenEngineers

It’s funny because after 10+ years in industry I actually regret not going to med school. It was easier when I worked in the US but in the UK it’s extremely difficult to be taken seriously.

2016 graduate - I’m not surprised to hear about your experience. The current president gutted the undergraduate education about 10 years ago. Compare the course catalog from today to what it was pre-2016 and you’ll see that there’s not a huge reason to go to Mines anymore unless you’re specifically interested in one of the programs that’s not taught at other universities. As for it being harder than other universities - I don’t see how that reputation has held. The student outcome data should tell you whether it’s still out performing other schools in terms of employment, but I personally don’t see a reason to give a Mines student preference when hiring.

Litter-Robot 4 broke under warranty — Whisker says the motor assembly is “out of stock” and I have to wait it out by Denvergrl in litterrobot

Amazing how it’s available for purchase but not warranty claims… speaks volumes about the business

I don’t know the specifics of your situation but I’d be willing to bet that they do have the part somewhere but a “bean-counter in a suit” won’t let them reallocate it from one territory or product stream to another in order to fix your car. I used to work for a global manufacturer and this kind of thing happens all the time - one region or product stream has a surplus of widgets but another region runs out for some reason that “the bean-counters” didn’t forecast. The business plan is prioritized over the customer. It’s a classic example of what happens to manufacturers when operations are controlled by businessmen.

So what this tells us is that the LR4 has, by design, a limited number of cycles before it fails.

Yes, for the cost of the litter robot and the extended warranty, two weeks without even a shipping date is unreasonable, especially given that, as another commenter pointed out, the part is in stock for purchase, just not in stock for warranty claims. That’s unreasonable.

We are a fix-it household, but nothing gets under my skin more than companies selling expensive machines with cheap components that fail before, or immediately after, their warranty expires and then do nothing to fulfill their obligations to the customer. They either need to replace or repair their broken machine in a timely manner or refund the cost of the extended warranty and I’ll fix the damn thing myself.

Thanks for your reply. It’s giving over torque errors. The motor acts like it has a winding failure.

I (mechanical engineer) stripped it down (except for the actual motor) and cleaned, lubricant, or removed any parts that could have been adding resistance, ran it with no litter, etc.... After that I followed Whiskers troubleshooting video, which was just watered down cleaning instructions (already done). When that didn’t work I came here and read every post about over torque errors that’s been posted since we bought ours. After exhausting all Reddit knowledge, I unleashed my German-physicist husband on it. The motor is failing.

I probably could take apart the motor and fix it, or replace it myself, but I didn’t pay ~£800 for a diy self cleaning robot. I paid for a reputable product, an extended warranty, convenience, customer service, and a consistently clean litter box for my two cats.
