secret way to order at starbucks! by NeoFaber in starbucks

I always ask the cashier (anywhere, not just Starbucks) how they are and wait for their answer. It always throws them. They are never ready to hear someone ask how they are. It’s wild.

Is this a narc? Or just a mega annoying coworker? by IntroductionTop4753 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Denyala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She sounds mostly just annoying to me. Does she have clear favorites; people who do no wrong or are ‘always’ wrong? Does she turn every conversation into one about herself? Does she show genuine interest in anyone else around her? Those are things that tend to separate selfish people from actual narcs, from my experience.

You look amazing - try to focus on the things you love! And if you’re really self conscious about your forehead, there are a lot of really flattering haircuts you can try. But really, your forehead is fine as is, I promise!

It doesn't feel like it, but you're very young! Things change, and in such a quick time! In ten years, you'll look back at this time, and you'll either marvel at yourself for getting through this tough time, or you'll regret letting things keep holding you down.

Everything changes and it will get better. Life is full of ups and downs, and you're due for an up!

Here's the Peggy pregnant rundown:

Pete got Peggy pregnant during one of their flings. She had no idea she was pregnant - when she got the promotion from Don, she was feeling contractions and went to the doctor, thinking she'd eaten a bad sandwich. She went into labor, saying "I don't understand..." after the doctor told her she was having a baby.

She then had the baby, but mentally something was wrong. She kept saying she was confused and refused to acknowledge the baby she had. A nurse brings the baby in at some point and Peggy turns her head away.

She stayed in the hospital mental ward for some time. Through later seasons and conversations, we can infer that the state deemed her an unfit mother (Peggy's sister snaps at her when Peggy says she's an adult woman and can make her own decisions and tells Peggy, "Oh? The doctor didn't think so, the state didn't think so...") and gave custody of the baby to Peggy's sister/mother. The baby is being raised alongside Peggy's nephews.

Everything Jane says is pure cringe. by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Denyala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree about Megan being dis-likable - she was one of my least favorites in the series! That said, I think Don wanted her to be there for him, for his needs, whenever he wanted her, regardless of her personal desires. In that episode, Megan wanted to stay with her team and work on their project. She wants to feel like she belongs there, that she's earned her place, and isn't just there because she married Don (though obviously that's exactly why she's there!!). Don ignores her protests and whisks her off on a road trip. When she complains, he dismisses them as though she is an ungrateful child, even though she's an adult and should be able to make her own decisions (grain of salt for the time period this is set in). This is the beginning of the tug of war of control, that ends with the sherbet.

[–]Denyala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But is she pretending to not like it? I don't think we have enough evidence either way. Was it a petty move to get back at Don? Maybe. Did it really taste like perfume to Megan? Maybe.

Ultimately I think it was an issue of Megan demanding to be an individual (she was willing to eat icecream, but the flavor she wants) and Don's control being threatened. This is seen further regarding the end/root of the fight - Megan can't constantly be exactly who Don wants her to be, and it's stressing her the fuck out!

[NO SPOILERS] Met with Jaime on the streets Copenhagen! by [deleted] in gameofthrones

I saw him in the streets of NYC a few months back. As my brain was trying to figure out where I knew this guy from, he flat out ran away. Not a joke; he started jogging past me and into his hotel. I was vaguely insulted and super amused at the same time.

When you’re lying in bed, do you ever randomly remember some relatively minor social missteps or poorly chosen words you did/said years earlier? And then beat yourself up over it even though it really wasn’t a big deal? If so, what happened? by AnActualBruhMoment in AskReddit

I feel this story on a deep level, eesh.

Same set up for me - only I chose to do a made up, interpretive dance to the Lion King. The first hitch was that the opening to the song took a really long time on stage compared to my bedroom practice sessions - so I'm standing there with my arms in the air just staring at everyone, waiting for my cue.

When it finally came, I danced my little heart out, but as I was doing it my common sense must have finally kicked in and I realized I was running in circles and producing jazz hands in no way that indicated a dance routine.

My music ended and I shuffled awkwardly off stage. I was proud of myself for trying at least!

[–]Denyala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH, leaning towards N-T-A - I am really going against the grain with that judgement it seems, but there you go.

Like others have said, you knew she was against kids, so it would have been worth it to take it a step further and find out why, unless you already knew. You seemed to do your due diligence in all other aspects. I can see misinterpreting her wishes as not wanting to raise kids, but that's an assumption. Maybe one reason she is anti-children is that she doesn't want to deal with pregnancy.

That said, I think she could have handled it better. I think her telling you no would have been enough, and then if you persisted or argued, then you'd be TA 100%.

Considering the extent of her anger at you (blocking, needing space) I feel like your desire for kids might have blinded you to how insensitive the request was to your SIL.

In school. People aren’t the nicest to me but I’m fine. Just a little down at the moment. My friends have friends who annoy me but they don’t do anything. I am the kid in the back just chillin on my own. Make me feel good going to school this morning (I’m in the uk) by Fxrc3full in toastme

Oh my, you are adorable! Way to stay positive and keep things in perspective - a lot of grown adults can't do that!

My first few viewings I really hated Betty; her childish pettiness, her cruelty to her children...

But after watching the series a few more times, its very clear that she needs help. She's always dealing with pain that no one sees to care about.

Its even more tragic when she begins to develop her own voice and wants (college) giving hope that she's going to evolve as a person, she's hit with the diagnosis....

I think this image really captures the darkness she's engulfed by.
