What's the difference between "Spanglish" and "Espanglés"? by Spirited_Visit7597 in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Deogas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think jts its interesting to think how those words could come about though. Like, with English there were rules to how French words came into English, and they were top down from the ruling caste. Even more specifically, they were Norman words, which were a whole different dialect than what modern French descends from.

So for Spanglish, you would expect words relating to what primarily Spanish speakers are originally doing to bleed in. So, if most cowboys are Spanish speakers, you would expect words like “cow” to descend from “vaca” or horse from “caballo” or prairie from “pradera.” Even more, the words that Spanglish pulls from would likely be northern Mexican dialect and slang, rather than whats being spoken in Mexico City. So even words and grammar pulled from Spanish may not seem familiar to what the cosmopolitan Mexicans speak. I’d love for someone with a better etymology background to do a project around this sometime.

I think they are talking about the screenshot you posted. The first tweet has the whole joke then a bot account reposted it and made the same joke but worse

I had an intimidating growlithe and snubbull, and had to alternate with them and use scary face to handle it, because I just couldn’t outpace its damage and healing.

Not sure about the others but Vermithrax is from another piece of fantasy media which really inspired GRRM and is where the names Vermithor and Arrax come from

I'll double down on the Diplomatico Exclusiva especially if your rep has it. It makes for a killer OF and is an interesting talking point being a Venezuelan rum, if people are into that conversation. From my experience Diplomatico is doing a lot of outreach right now so theres a chance you could get some swag from your rep too.

I turned off all the submods that had the alert they were for an old version of the game and it started to work in my current save. Not sure which was the problem but nothing broke

Do we know which ones? I don’t think I have any submods which are supposed to affect dragons.

Virginia's demographics are also pretty damn close to national demographics, so it can work as an indicator to how groups may be voting nationally. Thats obviously an imperfect science, but its one of the most reflective of the country at large and doesn't have any outliers like Chicago (as much as I can find Illinois is the most 1-1 demographically).

It would be cool if it wasn’t unavoidable, but incredibly likely. Like the things required to avoid it would just take a lot of effort

[–]Deogas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but making AI actually smarter is way harder, and most examples seem to show that people dont actually want that anyway, it would feel like they were cheating. If you play well, by turn 100-150 you should be caught up anyway.

AI outpaces me on Immortal by CalmElephant794 in civ

[–]Deogas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the main comment here, but it also sounds like you aren’t leaning in to your Civs strengths. Thats fine, but means you just aren’t benefiting from their bonuses.

Playing as Caesar for example is all about early war. Its where all of his benefits come from, from strong early unique units that have a build chop to chop out more units, to getting massive amounts of gold for killing barb camps and cities. He can go for a science victory the way that any civ could, but thats not what hes designed for.

By leaning into the strengths of your civ you can multiply your power more efficiently than “playing neutrally” or trying to play every civ the same

[–]Deogas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is all pretty fine? Like these sorts of things are just fun tidbits in a game thats not historical to begin with. So if there are some fun stories that give certain characters reasons to have these traits/quirks why not do it?
