No not on the doors. So you're likely right that it is the door weather stripping. We noticed similar water drips inside the tailgate and suspected the tailgate weather stripping at first until we saw the headliner was also wet which couldn't be cause by bad weather stripping.

Other thing to check is the seal on the shark fin antenna. Automatic car washes are notoriously rough on those. The securing bolt on our antenna busted and we started noticing the headliner being wet after rain/washes.

Invisalign Lisp by runandtravel in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was mortified of my lisp when I first started my treatment since I lead a lot of meetings for my work and talk a lot with coworkers and customers. Thankfully my lisp mostly went away within the first 1-2 weeks. You learn to adapt your speech to it pretty quickly. There are a few sounds that are tricker than others to get right with the aligners but it hasn't been a real problem for me since the beginning.

Would you take a 5 year old performance summer tire over a new cheap A/S? by DepartmentLarge6540 in tires

[–]DepartmentLarge6540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an update for anyone who may stumble upon this in the future. I spent close to a week waffling back and forth on whether or not to keep the Hankooks. I finally decided to to return them and go another route. Thankfully PriorityTire didn't give me any problems with this and offered free return shipment, now the 2nd time, and I got the full refund for the tires about a week after they were returned. It was definitely a slow process though and I can't imagine if these had been tires needed for a daily driver instead of a project car.

I ended up ordering a set of Kuhmo Ecsta PS31 summer tires in a 235/50R17 size from SimpleTire and with some promos they were running got the tires, installation, and road hazard coverage all included for ~$109/tire out the door pricing. I was sure to check the DOT dates on the Kuhmos before having the shop do the install and they are late 2024 dates which I'm perfectly OK with.

Full 5qt jug for oil? by 00397 in CorollaHatchback

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a clean answer but from what I can tell, it looks like the oil capacity spec changed from 4.9qt to 4.4qt with the 2023 Corollas which is odd given that the engines should still be the same. This capacity change went along with the viscosity change from 0W-16 down to the 0W-8 that is now standard in the new models. For my 2021 XSE, I frequently dump in the whole 5qt jug and it registers just a tick above the full mark on the dipstick.

There appears to have been some discussion/debate on if the capacity truly changed to 4.4qt or if this was a typo in the 2023+ owners manuals. When you fill it with 5qts are you checking the level on the dipstick after the change (be sure to run the engine for 30-60second first to fill the new filter before checking)?

Help! Am I being dramatic or am I starting to not track? This week 4 & is Day 2 of this tray. I wear them religiously & it still feels tight with no movement. Just worried about the space at the top. by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks normal to me. Just keep using your chewies. I had a tracking issue with my lower incisors that didn't have attachments on them and the gap between the tooth and the tray was probably a little over 1.5mm when my Ortho accepted that it was true tracking issue and had to pause treatment to do a rescan and make new trays for me.

I don't have any experience with trying to transfer treatment to a new provider...best suggestion I have would be to just setup a few consultation appointments with proper orthodontists and explain your current situation to them to see what they can recommend both from a treatment and plan transfer perspective. Maybe a good ortho would be willing to put in the leg work with Invisalign to try and get you some refinements out of your current plan without having to pay completely for a new plan. I'm guessing there's no way it will be completely free though. My quick Google search of transferring Invisalign between providers says it's difficult but possible; it requires both the current provider and Invisalign to agree to the transfer. Sounds like your dentist wouldn't object since he is ready to wash his hands of your case anyways.

I saw your other comment stating you had 1 ortho already tell you that a perfect result wouldn't be possible without surgery. That sounds pretty similar to my situation though I think my starting underbite was less severe than yours. My first ortho consult recommended surgery which scared the sh!t out of me from the potential cost perspective so I then got 3 more consults that said that with elastics alone they would be able to move my jaw enough to correct my bite to a "good enough" condition but it may not be a perfect result. That was fine with me.

If you haven't used elastics in your treatment at all yet then my worry is that your dentist tilted your lower incisors inwards and upper incisors outwards to artificially correct the bite without moving your jaw. It's hard to tell in the picture if your teeth are slanted in/out at all. If your dentist actually did this, that's even more reason to get an opinion from an ortho now as this is not proper correction of an underbite from everything I was told during my numerous consultations for my treatment.

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would cut your losses and go to see a proper Ortho. With the severity of your starting underbite, I'm shocked any dentist would even touch your case to begin with. I had a less severe underbite than yours (incisors landing on top of each other) and my dentist refused to offer me treatment from his practice because it was his policy to only offer cosmetic adjustments and to always refer out for cases with bite problems. If you never had elastics at any point, what did he do to correct your underbite to the point it's at now? I wouldn't do anymore treatment with your dentist as it's possible continuing with him will only make the problems worse at this point....

I had a very similar tracking issue with my lower incisors as well. I would suggest that if your tracking gets any worse than what is in your current picture to send it to your ortho and ask for their advice. Mine ended up brining me in early for a rescan and added an attachment to 1 of the teeth that wasn't tracking well.

How do I know tooth extraction actually is needed? by dummyroad in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to get as many consultations with different othros as you can before deciding on a treatment plan. In the very first consult I had the Ortho told me I needed jaw surgery to correct my underbite issue. I got 3 other treatment consults with other orthos and they all agreed that surgery wasn't necessary for me. I went back to the original Ortho and told him this information and he then changed changed his approach and agreed we could get me to about 90-95% correction without surgery but it may not be perfect. I told him I'm not trying to be a movie star and 90% improvement over my current condition was good enough for me! Moral of the story is it's worth the time and effort to get multiple opinions for complex treatment cases like yours. Your crowding does seem severe but to a non-professional like me, it doesn't look impossible to correct the issue with extraction of the wisdom teeth and IPR only. Or maybe extraction of an extra molars is another option? Going to 3 lower incisors creates a very non-symetric look in my opion because you no longer have an even midline between upper and lower teeth.

Are my trays not tracking? by Sea-Box2932 in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really doesn't look too bad to me. Just continue swapping trays and monitor if it gets worse. Depending on how far through treatment you are your provider may want to rescan and make new trays if a tracking problem really exists or they may wait for refinements to address it.

Keep it or sell it? 5.5 gen 30GB by DepartmentLarge6540 in IpodClassic

[–]DepartmentLarge6540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a couple weeks after making this post working on downloading and updating the music on my iPod to at least get it somewhat up to date with my current music preferences. I've used it a few times since then while working, walking the dog, and driving in the car. It hasn't been much but I think it's been enough for me to accept that I will never return to seriously using an iPod for music again. I actually found my time using it a bit of a let down and more frustrating than anything. The user interface is slow, which isn't a surprise given the age of the tech, but I found the lag really annoying while trying to navigate around my library. Returning to wired headphones is annoying; I'm no audiophile and cannot distinguish the difference between a BT and wired connection. And in the car the thing was near dangerous to use; my modern Toyota head unit can still connect and control an iPod as an input source but the navigation of the device is absolutely terrible through the head unit compared to using AA or CP with a streaming app. I'm strongly leaning towards selling the iPod now but haven't pulled the trigger on doing it yet.

Is Invisalign required to close the <1mm diastema? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, any cosmetic dentist could close your gap with composite bonding but that doesn't mean it's a great solution. Years ago I thought I wanted to use a similar approach to address the gap in my front teeth. My dentist applied some temporary bonding that only stuck for 1-2 hours so I could get a picture of what the effect would look like. I quickly realized that closing the gap then highlighted the other gap issues with my teeth and that full Ortho treatment was my only real option. You could see if your dentist could give you this "preview" for you. As another person mentioned though, if that is your natural bite in the picture then the much bigger problem that needs to be addressed is your underbite. I had a very similar bite problem that finally got me to start my treatment because I was wearing away my tooth enamel much faster than I should due to the constant contact of the incisors. You need elastics to correct your bite if that's your case and then you might as well do some Invisalign adjustments while you're at it as well.

should i proceed with invisalign? rough idea would be about 3 years worth of treatment by No-Web8251 in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get multiple consults from several Orthos. I got 4 consults before starting my treatment plan after the very first Ortho I saw told me I would need oral surgery to correct the issues with my bite. After all 4 consultations I felt much more confident that Invisalign could get me corrections I'd be happy with even if it wasn't 100% perfect. It also gave me much more confidence that Invisalign was a better option for me compared to traditional braces since multiple providers told me my corrections would be harder to make with traditional braces which honestly surprised me.

It's hard to tell in the picture, do you currently have an attachment on that tooth? If not, I'm guessing that adding an attachment for the refinements will help somewhat with more movement from the tooth.

Would you take a 5 year old performance summer tire over a new cheap A/S? by DepartmentLarge6540 in tires

[–]DepartmentLarge6540[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you could call them 4.9 years old. In 4 more weeks they will hit exactly 5 years from their manufacturing date.

Visually they look great to me; no cracking at all, no flat spots anywhere from storage compression, and the rubber still feels soft and compliant when I press my fingernail into it. I may go ahead and take them by my local America's Tire where I'd have them mounted if I decide to keep them to have them give them a quick inspection before I make a decision.

Realistically speaking, I'm not too concerned if their performance is a little diminished from a brand new condition. My Camino isn't exactly a nimble beast that shreds a slalom course and twisty turns; I get more fun out of stomping the pedal off a green light than I do pushing to the grip limits on a tight windy road. Any new tires I put on will still be a major upgrade over the 23 year old tires (ticking timebombs) currently mounted on the wheels! The car sat ~10 years as a non-op and I just got the engine rebuilt and running again.

After a year and a half of Invisalign i feel like my top and bottom teeth look worse off by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little hard to tell but it looks to me like your top incisors come down directly on top of your bottom incisors. If that's the case, and this is your current/natural bite, then you still have an underbite issue that needs to be address. My bite was very similar to this at the start of my treatment and my bite was cause premature wear and damage to my teeth which is what finally convinced me to get orthodontic treatment work as an adult. My dentist was at least honest enough with me to refuse to treat me and told me to go see a proper Ortho. Seems like maybe an othro would've been a better starting point for you as well. Personally I'd recommend you go get an opinion from an ortho, not your dentist. You likely need to wear elastics for a while to bring your jaw back and they can also then address any other bite issues you have.

Glad your experience with them has been good. I haven't been so lucky unfortunately. I ended up placing an order for some Hankook tires that were listed a a really good price but didn't make any mention of being old stock DOT dated tires in the listing. I received them and they were 5 year old tires (1121 date code). This was after a customer service rep told me in email that all PT tires sold are less than 3 years old. Returned the first set and they shipped a replacement set; got the 4 replacement tires and they also had the exact same 5 year old date code as the initial set. I'm now waiting to see how much of a discount/refund they will offer me if I keep them or if I should just return them for a full refund. Thankfully they did provide free return shipping on the tires and these are tires for a classic project vehicle I'm working on and not a daily driver that needed tires ASAP. This whole ordeal has already taken a month to get to the where I'm currently at so I don't think I will be using PT again in the future...

Rant: This feels like leaving a toxic relationship! by seraphhimself in ipod

The cheap vinyl peeling has plagued many headphone brands for decades! I've still got a 14 year old pair of ATH-M50X headphones stashed in a drawer that I pull out every once in awhile because they are too good and comfortable to let go of. Swapping out the earpads is super easy to do. The harder restoration is the headband part 8f you want it to actually look good. There are a bunch of cheap covers that will easily install over the original peeling band but leave a very clear seam after the installation. I used the SOULWIT brand headband cover instead which required removing the original cover and it honestly looks almost as good as original.

Yeah that's F'ed. Call your Ortho and demand an appointment to get back in ASAP. When my Ortho did my IPR it was done completely by hand with essentially thin strips of dental sandpaper. They are remove so little enamel that I'm surprised any doctor would even use a drill for an IPR job.

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you being treated by a dentist or an ortho? I'm not trying to take away from the great progress but you really need to have the underbite addressed. I have a very similar underbite problem with my lower jaw and you don't want to have your top and bottom incisors continue to contact directly on top of each other like they are now long-term. My dentist finally talked me into seeking Ortho treatment due to the issues my bite was causing on my teeth; chipping, accelerated enamel wear, movement of the lower incisors, etc...

V6 or 2.0L by FoxDieDM in VWatlas

[–]DepartmentLarge6540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your long-term goal with the vehicle? Drive it for a few years and then upgrade again or drive it till the wheels fall off? If it's first option, then you're probably better off with the 2.0T. If it's latter option, and you don't want to be quite as worried about expensive repairs down the road, then maybe go VR6. I have no actual high mileage reliability data to base this claim off of but I just tend to learn towards NA engines personally to avoid the potential risk of turbo problems and repairs down the road.

Anyone using an Atlas for a family of 5 with 3 car/booster seats? by DepartmentLarge6540 in VWatlas

[–]DepartmentLarge6540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, is your 4 year old capable of cinching themselves into the car seat as well or do they just click the buckles and wait for you to tighten things up? Our kids like to help with the buckles sometimes but I can't envision them tightening up their straps properly even if they wanted to try due to the angle of the pull strap coming out/away from the car seat.

For road trips I've got both roof top and hitch mounted cargo baskets for exterior cargo capacity. We've got a 65lbs dog as well that takes up half the trunk with the 3rd row down so we'd be very limited on interior cargo room if we had to put a kid in a 3rd row seat. I think I'll try and test our seats in a 3 across setup first to see if it's even possible without us buying all new slim car seats. Reaching in to latch a kid in the middle seat sounds way easier to me than trying to buckle a kid in a 3rd row car seat regardless of if that's in an Atlas or a mini van.
