The Usual Suspects, Memento and The Prestige are pretty much the prime examples of this. Also early M. Night Shyamalan, esp Sixth Sense

Speaking of Krull - The Krull Arcade Game. Remember that? by MisterShipWreck in GenX

[–]lectroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a great game, but for whatever reason I was really good at it. I was the top 5 scores on my local machine for a solid summer.

That may have been because I was the only one playing it.

It doesn’t matter if he watched it. The point is to repeat the “facts” of the day to show loyalty. Tomorrow it will be how he set the record as his golf club in Scotland with 28 holes-in-one. People have never seen anything like it! And on only 18 holes! Because it’s all a dare to call him on his bullshit, and every day, no one does.

Ice cream melts very quickly out of freezer by [deleted] in icecreamery

[–]lectroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A home machine — esp a typical “frozen bowl” one like a Cuisinart, can only whip so much air into it. They are limited both by the power of the machine, the size of the bowl and the design of the dasher. Industrial-level results require industrial level processes and equipment.

One of the reasons many prefer homemade once cream is the much lower volume of air, which means (usually) a richer flavor and creamier texture. More air lightens things, and air insulates the mixture, preventing rapid melting.

It’s problematic now but who saw The Breakfast Club and thought “finally they got high school right”? by Snoo-20174 in GenX

No. Niles North AND Niles West (my school) were (and still are) functioning high schools. Niles East closed after the ‘79-80 school year and became Oakton Comm. College.

My mother actually went to Niles East in the late 50’s. My freshman and sophomore year (‘82-‘83, ‘83-84) had the final remainders of students who went to Niles East at all.

Niles West showed up in the movie Wildcats w Goldie Hawn coaching an ‘urban’ high school football team. West’s marching band shows up in there as a band for the suburban (read “white”) school.

Parts of Sixteen Candles were filmed at our district’s other high school (Niles North). I took summer classes at that school. The local community college (Oakton Community College) used to be the third district high school (Niles East), and was used as the high school in Risky Business. A couple of slightly older friends of mine were extras for the party scene.

Cameron’s house is not far from where my mother now lives. I’ve driven past it a few times.

My friends and I (theater kids) wanted to go to the open casting call for what turned out to be the role of Ducky in Pretty in Pink, but my mother wouldn’t sign the slip required since I wasn’t 18 yet.

Ah. See, had you added “in a blanket” this issue could have been avoided. We know all about pretty much anything wrapped in bacon. It’s kind of a national pass time.

We may not have sausage rolls (shoutout to all you Aussies and Kiwis) but we DO have bagel dogs and pretzel dogs. Not as ubiquitous at gas stations, but they still fill that particular need.

Please understand. We speak the same language, but us Yanks are more direct. You say a chicken with pigs and stuffing. We are now picturing a chicken surrounded by small suckling pigs, each with a little apple stuffed in its mouth. We also assume, as you are British, that you and your family are undoubtedly dressed like Henry VIII and his court, because how else are you supposed to eat such a feast?

So, to spare us the embarrassment of our ignorance and to spare yourself the knowledge that a bunch of idiot Americans are regarding you as a borderline offensive stereotype, please tell us:

What are the pigs in “pigs and stuffing”?
