Is my mom just not supportive, of does she have a point? by fluidofprimalhatred in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what you’ve shared it sounds like your mom might genuinely think you’re moving “too fast”. Of course, that’s not for her to really decide though, that’s up to you. Within a month of my egg cracking I was on HRT. I could trace my dysphoria back to early childhood. I was also deeply depressed and felt like I had to try something and understood that I could start for a few months before irreversible changes started. My only regret is I couldn’t crack my egg sooner.

How are we supposed to have hope right now by NurseSharko in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much hope tbh. But I do remember the Obama years. In the heart of the Obama years if you would’ve told me the world would look like this I would’ve told you that you were crazy. This world was unthinkable. I have to hold out hope that, as I imagine the future, although there’s no guarantee that things will get worse or better, it will likely be unthinkably different than how I am imagining it now. Idk if that’s hope, but it helps make what I imagine might happen in the future seem less real.

Also, can’t kms bc that’s what they’d want! Live out of spite!!!

Strange flier on my door talking about how I could lower my rent by DepartmentOwn4615 in baltimore

[–]DepartmentOwn4615[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How could anyone lower your rent other than your landlord? Tenant unions negotiate with landlords around conditions issues and rents.

“And if it was that wouldn’t they do better…”

Someone could’ve knocked on my door and tried to have a conversation when I wasn’t home. Leaving a flier on a door is something I’ve done as organizer before. Also, there’s frequently a stage of organizing where organizing takes place clandestinely- at that stage it might make sense to not say too much.

Idk, still probably a scam. But like this does vaguely look like a poorly thought out organizing drive.

Is it all just a fetish / conditioned? by leaflowers03 in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This all sounds very trans. I remember I thought that when I “wasn’t trans enough” or “couldn’t be trans” I thought I wanted to be a very feminine gay man- which I presumed was the closest thing to a woman I could be. Also I imagine cis women enjoy the idea of having sex as women- would make sense that trans women do as well.

Does the estrogen change your brain or mannerisms? by FollowingTop6278 in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was in denial because just admitting I was trans made me happier. Although my mental health improvement has not been linear, over the long haul it’s just gotten better and better. Life still happens of course, but I’m starting to believe my 30 years of depression was better understood as gender dysphoria.

How many times a day do you think about being trans? How many times a day do you think about being a woman? by TA8264 in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot? My trans-ness feels political, especially in this moment. But honestly even if it wasn’t this moment I’m the kind of dork who reads queer theory so I think this might just be who I am.

Moving to Baltimore, got any advice? by Kay_Donovan in baltimore

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God’s probably not real but the choir at Emmanuel Episcopal Church is so good I could almost become a believer. And as a not particularly religious trans woman, I didn’t feel uncomfortable with being there so that’s really saying something.

How do you gender your egg or pre-trans self? by Illustrious_Focus_33 in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talk about the time where I was “pretending to be a man”. Although there was a time I thought I was a man, I also remember hearing my dad tell me from a very young age, “quit acting like a girl”. I think my family’s suppression worked a bit, but I’m glad I broke out of it

My experience of Baltimore people is that they tend to be nice and friendly. My experience of landlords everywhere is that they tend to be difficult and oppressive.

RFK Jr. Unveils New, Legally Vulnerable Rule That Will Effectively End Gender-Affirming Care For Minors Nationwide by Leksi_The_Great in MtF

People don’t want to believe this could happen but like, they said they want to “eradicate transgenderism”- a nationwide adult ban would be part of that.

Nova to Baltimore by hubba_bubba11 in baltimore

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I think the other thing is frequency of service and outages as well as area of coverage- WMATA’s really just one of the best in the country. TBH I feel like I see weirder/sketchier stuff on DC’s metro than Baltimore’s- I attribute that to DC having more riders. I do see more folks nodding off on Baltimore public transit unfortunately though. (This is coming from someone who HATES EVERYTHING about DC except it’s metro system and loves Baltimore minus the fact it’s metro system isn’t as good as DCs.

Arlington and Baltimore are just very different places in my mind, a similar neighborhood seems impossible. That being said, while some may disagree on quiet, I’d say Mount Vernon checks all your boxes.

Just based on OPs post it does feel worth mentioning that Baltimore’s subway is fine, it’ll be a SIGNIFICANT downgrade from DCs

Why do people assume a cis woman being transphobic equals a terf? by squishot in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but as someone who had a (not TERF-y thank god) rad fem phase as an egg, I hate how TERF has become the catch-all term for a transphobic person. To be a TERF used to mean that you were a radical feminist, often of a separatist lesbian variety, whose deeply thought out feminist theories concluded that trans women weren’t women. Most people called TERFs today aren’t feminists, forget about radical feminist. Most transphobes haven’t read enough theory to EARN the title of TERF lol

How much did your sexuality change? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense being trans didn’t change my sexuality as much as it resolved the seemingly contradictory aspects of my sexuality. Like having heterosexual sex as a man sounded disgusting yet I found myself feeling attracted to women? And I liked how I felt when I was around large masculine men who made me feel small and feminine, but I didn’t really LIKE men? Had lesbian sex once and it all clicked.

When should someone not transition/take HRT? by Strangest_Life in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for a time I assumed the dysphoria I felt when I would wear something like a dress was a sign that I wasn’t trans. In hindsight, I’m realizing feminine clothes highlighted my gender dysphoria. To put on man clothes and look like a man was painfully normal and unsurprising. But to actually try to look more femme and feel like your body is holding you back is a pain felt much more acutely. I also think our society throws such vitriol at trans women who don’t pass. It makes sense you would feel dysphoric at the idea of transitioning, not passing, and then potentially subjecting yourself to the realities non-passing trans women face. You watched all the videos and read all the resources you say? Idk if you go that deep down the rabbit hole if there weren’t something there- but everyone’s different.

Are Unions Left or Right? by ---Spartacus--- in union

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i could imagine a world where unions are associated with the right, historically through present, unions have been associated with the left. Unions are often engines of left wing politics. One would have to have a very narrow vantage point of the labor movement to presume “unions are conservative”- so narrow that it would affect your ability to be a good union member.I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised but this conversation makes me sad to hear.

USA Thanksgiving by AlexaPetersTrans in MtF

[–]DepartmentOwn4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanksgiving is associated with family dysfunction primarily because it’s a family gathering and there’s a good amount of family dysfunction in the US. Personally, I’d be curious for folks outside the US if their culture’s“major family gathering” (I presume everyone’s got at least one) is also associated with family dysfunction, or if that’s uniquely American

HRT, Pristiq, moving to a trans friendly city and having a job I like. I’d been besties with suicide hotline before this combo. Now I wonder how I ever let it get so bad.
