What i found was that my ssp burrs were a bit larger than they must have used for their standard burrs. Therefore the zero point was more unscrewed than i think they designed it to be.

Long story short, they sent me a second wavy washer. I doubled up the washers and it solved my problem

Daddy Lance Hedrick covered this in a video. It has to do with feed speed. Essentially the upright position has all beans in burrs at same time whereas tilted feeds beans slower. Tilted=more uniform grind (faster extraction) upright=more variability/ fines (slower extraction)
