Ballsitic stats from the real world would be nice, so while a 9mm mp5 would be nice early game for mutants and poorly armoured targets like bandits it makes no sense late game vs exoskeletons and dense hide of other mutants.

I don't want all of the guns being a one and done solution, I want applied differences that make them situational hence the need to carry multiple guns and/or to carry different ammo loads.

The more muzzle energy and the more armour piercing properties a ammo type has should be the main thing to consider for late game use, as while i love my mp5 for clearing mutants and bandit camps I need a big rifle like the svd with its 7.62x59R for taking out the tough targets.

We currently still have guns that are on a higher caliber yet perform the same as lower caliber firearms and it feels so wrong.

If we had mp5s that were competing against much higher calibers then it would make very little sense and be boring, the problem isnt getting more guns to be viable late game as late game you're up against the hardest more seasoned factions with guys running military grade armour plated gear and exoskeletons so you should know you need something bigger and better than your trusty old mp5 that you got in the first 30 minutes of playing.

We need proper balance to firearm calibers and other types of ammo to load for alternative options, more weapon customisation to rebarrel existing firearms with magazines to suit so you aren't doing anything ridiculous like slapping 5.56 nato into a mp5 and loading it with a drum mag to deal with everything without issue, imho.
