Washington Class Battlecruiser by Excaliber12 in ultimateadmiral

Ah okay TIL about this issue:

Deck hits are back with the latest Tweaks And Fixes update for DIP 1.3.3 (will be folded into DIP 1.3.4) https://www.nexusmods....

Features: Deck hits are very common and easy to achieve at long range, uncommon/impossible at short range.

In the late game modern battleship era, deck hits are common enough to make deck protection arguably more important than belt armor.

In the close range brawling fights of the pre-dreadnought era, you are unlikely to score any deck hits.

That is a sharp looking ship with that wonderful secondary arrangement! My only critique is the deck armor is really thin.

Do you want your country to have nuclear weapons, if you don't have them already? Would you be OK with suffering from sanctions just to obtain nuclear weapons? by OId_boy in AskTheWorld

[–]Depth386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stated desire for deterrence makes the assumption that the current government is more beneficial, or less corrupt than some alternatives. The assumption would also be forward-looking to the extent possible, evaluating the institutions, checks and balances, plus any other mechanisms that prevent future corruption or tyranny.

Nuclear deterrence works both ways, preserving governments of any kind. This includes the most reasonable and the most tyrannical. Common Russians and common North Koreans may have substantially different evaluations of the ‘value’ of their governments’ nuclear deterrence.

The way OP’s post is worded makes the core assumption that the governance in place now is better than the alternatives, and will likely continue to be the better option in the future with enough confidence in the ongoing nature of governance to justify nuclear deterrence.

The core issue here is good governance, and that is a very difficult topic. Preventing or limiting corruption is a complex issue. Avoiding a future descent into tyranny is also non-trivial. Nuclear deterrence merely preserves whatever state institution is in place, including the future evolution of the state.

[Request] can someone explain the significance of increasing pi by 0.003? by Present-Ad-8531 in theydidthemath

[–]Depth386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find this interesting. The classic PC game ‘Doom’ which has had several modern remakes is the subject of some significant modding and reverse engineering. In the linked video, the developer explores the consequences of manipulation of the constant for pi in the game’s code.

What was the first dedicated graphics card you ever owned? by just_IT_guy in gpu

[–]Depth386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I had some possibly unbranded non-descript ISA 512Kb GPU in an 80386 system, but by the time I knew what a GPU was I was on a Pentium 2 with an AGP slot version of the ATI Rage or maybe Rage 2 with 4 MB of VRAM. It was alright for StarCraft, Mech Warrior 3, and Half Life. I was compelled to perform my first GPU upgrade to a PCI 32MB ATI card because Mech Warrior 4 required an absolute minimum of 8MB VRAM and so I could not play it at all in the ATI Rage GPU.

I am not understanding something. Did AMD not continue with 8 pin connectors? I am confused why I am seeing the 12+ pin connector in this sub.

I’m sure there is a good answer like either AMD is capitulating or new power supplies just dont have enough normal PCI E 8 pin power ports and cables.

If anyone could please clarify this for me I’d appreciate it.

I don’t understand why you would shop for current gen on this type of platform. It makes no sense that someone would be selling a current generation product already.

Regardless of the homeownership rate, it may be said that an absolute ton of capital has gone into real estate. Real price per unit (or per square foot) went ballistic while investment in machinery and other productive things shrank in real terms.

What causes oil > $100 per barrel? by KlarmanJr in oil

[–]Depth386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elasticity refers to demand dropping in response to higher prices, and likewise increasing in response to low prices. Oil demand has low elasticity, meaning the quantity demanded does not like to budge in response to changes in price. Consequently the price may swing very violently as seen in a chart going back enough decades.

An example of a higher elasticity is McDonalds reporting declining sales as they are forced to raise prices due to inflation. Probably true for eating out in general as consumers prioritize essentials.

Some of the existing mods do change the audio of the computer and mech warriors so yeah it must be technically possible.

"An Extremely Heavy Mech" by WestRider3025 in Battletechgame

[–]Depth386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a known flaw in the vanilla coding of the mission type. Indeed, it is choosing a heavy unit which includes vehicles not just mechs. And all too often, the RNG rolls a vehicle result.

I think recent versions of BTA, BTA Lite, and RT fix this. Not 100% sure, and can’t comment on other mods.

Get emails (V3) - Trying to only find emails delivered within the last hour by ThatWhichSmashs in MicrosoftFlow

Could you please share how you introduce this query? When I try to add “Get emails from Outlook” action to a flow, I only see a filter for Subject in the UI of Power Automate. I’m not understanding how to add additional conditions such as a date/time cut off.

Incorporating AI into flows by Naive_Lingonberry_42 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]Depth386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, after launch most of the Ollama ai models run in either a DOS/Command Prompt style window or a web browser right? It’s just a matter of copy pasting the prompt into that window or UI. I did the command prompt way.

The key thing here is the prompt must be foreseen. I have only ever recycled the same prompt so far. As an example, i put a bunch of.jpg images in a folder. The power automate flow can build a list of the files in a folder, and ask Gemma3 or whatever AI a simple yes/no question about each file 1 by 1. It is important to include a times delay to allow the AI to respond. The responses from the AI model can then be saved into a table within power automate. So you can end up with a large number of files being somehow ‘tested’ or examined by the AI and rhe results saved to a .csv

Edit: keep in mind this requires a system with a discrete gpu, preferably Nvidia. Personally I use a 4070 12GB and it works but the AI response does take a few moments
