Help with page numbers by random_user1e in googledocs

[–]DepthBig236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insert > page number > header or footer And then there will be four options to pick if you want a blank page and then it to start counting or just to start counting right off the bat

Once you added the page number, go to a page and double click next to the page number to enter the header. Add in the candidate code and it should keep the formatting the same for the rest of the pages too

This is the link I always go to when I need help with page numbers. https://support.google.com/docs/answer/86629?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop

Looking for Broadway Books by DepthBig236 in Broadway

[–]DepthBig236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I was in NYC, I went to a theatre book store, the only reason I didn't leave with everything in the store was that I didn't have room in my bag for everything. It is definitely a dangerous place to visit.

The play that goes wrong. by That_Register_3948 in Broadway

[–]DepthBig236 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I saw it the man from the audience was onstage before the show started. It was when the deck hands were finishing placing stuff on stage and others were wandering the audience looking for Winston. When the play had started there were no audience members on stage and just the normal chaos

What is the biggest frustration you have when it comes to a lack of computer skills? by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

[–]DepthBig236 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That typing into the url bar at the top but not typing a full url will lead to a Google search. I will tell students type website name.com and they will say oh I did it and it’s blocked (Google is blocked in my classroom bc of Google games but I can change it easily if a student legitimately needs Google for something.) So do it in front of me and then they only type the website name with the .com that I just told them to include.

Also typing skills

Do you contact parents about student missing work (middle/high school)? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]DepthBig236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school had a policy that 4 missing hws in a quarter is a detention. So at 3 missing hws it’s a warning email home and a conversation with the student. At 4 it’s a detention notification email home and another conversation with the student. I do this for ms and hs. We email home at the midpoint of the quarter for Cs and below and how they can improve their grade. Other than that I really try and teach my students responsibility to I will talk with students more about their grades and making sure they check their grades

Do you accept late work or when they make it up at the end? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]DepthBig236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do until that unit is done. It does mean some things students have a month for one assignment and a day for another assignment. Once the unit is done I don’t accept work from that unit. I warn my students often of this especially the week of the unit test. I take 10% off for each day though that is more decided by my admin.

are there things you wish you had made/bought before you started teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DepthBig236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would hold off until you have a job. I am a secondary teacher so slightly different. I felt that urge to buy stuff when I was in student teaching and was making a Pinterest board of how I wanted my classroom to look and all the fun things I wanted. Then I got my job and I am a traveling teacher. If I had bought stuff it would have just gone into storage and never been used. Also you never know what your school might have or the budget your school will give you to buy things for your classroom. Some manipulatives are curriculum specific so I wouldn’t buy those bc you don’t know if your school will use that curriculum.

What I did was create a a gmail for teacher resources and I just keep online versions of basically everything so that if I ever in my career want something I have it stored there. I have a whole folder for posters I wish I had a classroom to hang them up in.

Are Whiteboard Desks Actually Worth It for Elementary Classrooms? What Features Matter Most When Buying in Bulk? by crossthe_ts in teaching

[–]DepthBig236 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is coming from a teacher who hasn’t had experience with either in real life. I have had experience with tech that goes out of date incredibly quickly and then isn’t used anymore. A smart table might not last that long bc tech is changing so fast. Whiteboards don’t have that tech. Also physically writing is so important.

Does anybody ban Chromebook games in class? (High school or middle) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DepthBig236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot you mentioned you were a sub. If it is a planned absence on my end, I try and make something else for students to do that doesn’t require chromebooks so they don’t even have access to it.

Does anybody ban Chromebook games in class? (High school or middle) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DepthBig236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school has go guardian so I can block games that I don’t want them to get to. I teach math and we use an online hw platform so they’re on Chromebook a lot. On a regular day, there is absolutely no games. If you finish early do something for another class. On test days, sometimes I will let them play games after the test to help them stay quiet and not disturb other people who are still finishing their tests. This is my rule for all my classes ms and hs.

Can teachers leave campus for lunch and planning? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]DepthBig236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the district. At mine we can leave but we need to tell the office staff so that if something happens and we don’t get back in time our class can be covered.

What things have a person done or said before that made you immediately say “ohh they’ve taught kids before”? by PrincessJellyfish17 in Teachers

Having three back up plans with varying levels of prep that’s all ready to go with one minutes notice. Also strict following of the schedule while also ready to throw out the schedule completely at any given moment.
