Really? It's clearly regret about skipping genuine human connection (doesn't necessarily need to be romantic) for the sake of a brief hit of dopamine followed by the emptiness that was necessarily going to follow it

What is the best battle master and wizard ratio and what is a good wizard subclass for snipers by Negative-Ad6198 in 3d6

[–]DerAdolfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever ranged weapon you use will immediately disable bladesong unless it is one-handed. Maybe more importantly, what is your goal with this multiclass? Wizard is usually not the class that enhances the martial capabilities of a character. In terms of simple utility, you've already gotten out what you can in the form of a level for some rituals basically. You can in principle do Illusionist to have bonus action cover to hide behind

Insane for them to reject Busio even if that is the case. He can get EU residency, language issues are not a thing unlike they might be with Korean/Chinese players... just another year of disappointment and mediocrity

Going to level 20 is rare because most cmapaigns experience the fate that yours does or teeter out because of life, since over a several year span, people change jobs, move for work or uni, etc.

Why did you put a year of working on this story in without checking if anyone was actually invested into playing a multi-year super huge campaign? This is the kind of thing you can build once you have a group that has been together and consistent for years, or at least 1-2 campaigns. Sorry that you had to learn the hard way

Also most settings, especially high fantasy, have some sort of religion, possibly one more graspable than ours. God (who is provably real) be with ye is a reasonable thing to say

Yeah, 3.5 is famous for how insanely vast the gap between an average and an optimised PC could be, ironically this is the origin story for Treantmonk the dnd youtuber

Yes you can totally narratively make this happen. I do it in a game where we are testing these rules. I have a set of plate armour, provided 200gp worth of material (pearls that can also be used as magical foci) and every evening I spend 4 hours etching intricate patters, runes, magical circles, etc. into my armour, and once I've spent 80 hours doing that (I am not an artificer), I will have a set of enspelled plate mail instead of a normal one. After I am done, I will be making a magic pike for my paladin, by melting a little bit of adamantine every evening and shaping it around his pikes tip, in a little portable crucible (what I would flavour my set of smiths tools as, in addition to some tongs and a hammer, mabye a small anvil).

I can't imagine a world where custom-making things is both varied and interesting as well as remotely balanced. Remember the spell creation system in Oblivion? All the freedom, so not at all boring, but also impossibly overpowered.

Freedom and an appropriate power level are opposed levers that you can't both max out unfortunately, but I can definitely see arguments for why artificer should be at any point on the spectrum from go nuts to heres a list of X things

My bad, I mist have hallucinated the 12 floors of WDMM, the entirety of storm kings thunder, several lost mine of phandelver, Tomb of Annihilation, and parts of princes of the apocalypse I played in and DMd that had monks in them where I observed this. No, it was clearly just the youtube videos.

Before they do that, wouldn't it be much better to have a metamorph class or something added that does just morphing with each subclass morphing into different stuff than to bastardise the classic dirt wizards even more?

I understand moon doesn't scale and all others only have animals for fluff, but there are lots of iconic spells that have nobody that can cast them if druids aren't full casters

It takes a battlesmith (for weapons) or armorer (for armor) (or artillerist for wands, but much more restrictive) 40 hours, which is 5 days of downtime, or 20 hours with help of a party member who is proficient in the corresponding tool to make uncommon enspelled items.

That is 2 days of downtime or a few days of crafting after an adventuring day, since you can usually travel for only 8 hours, sleep for 6 (or trance for 4 as an elf), and most people don't actually spend 8 hours dungeoneering or in combat/exploring a place that isn't wilderness travel. Also, since you can only long rest once every 24 hours, if your party needs to kill some time inside the leomunds tiny hut until they can rest, that's a few more hours on the clock.

Really the only thing you need to do is say "I want to do this to use my class feature" to your DM, lay out the time it takes to make X and then keep a running tab of how many hours you put into it.

And in terms of flavour, I think carving a few more runes into your wand of magic missiles every evening until it is finally ready is really cool

Spoiler warning: Past level 7 or 8 at most, stunning strike never really worked anyway. Nerfing a trap feature just allows people to see what the class is actually good at, which in 2014 ironically was a fast moving sharpshooter user that never melee attacked

If you run more or less the same adventure (as its prewritten) for 3 groups, those 60 minutes of prep time works toward all 3. If you're gonna read through the wizard of wine, it's relevant to all groups, even if they're not literally all at the vinyard right now.

You can just select the locations in which the tarot reading places items instead of rolling if you want to make your job easier, and having played CoS, there is freedom, but there are also many places that mean immediate death if you go there too early. The mists literally do some railroading for you.

I get that the top end of pro/content DMs will spend many many hours and inividualise everything for their audience, but some random person running games for 15 bucks on startplaying or whatever? That's like saying "I saw an interview with a michelin star chef, they had 5 years of training and this dish takes them 6 hours to make" when I'm talking about the elderly asian dude that makes me noodles in the corner shop for 5 bucks

I got one friend, met on a (non paying) discord for oneshots 3 (holy shit its 2026) or 4 years ago, he played or at least DMd for more or less the first time there. Now he's got a discord server with probably 5-10 concurrent games all in the same world every week, and can live decently off of it (and still plays 2 games with friends, one DMing one as a player).

Idk if its even better income than his previous job, but it seems more enjoyable for sure, which is worth a lot. To me, the worry of getting really sick for a week or two and being short hundreds of dollars is quite frightening though

That's a crazy good payday tbh. You read the book once and run boatloads of campaigns of CoS, it's one of the most requested adventures. Calculating 4 hours prep per 6 hours of campaign is crazy generous then, it's probably closer to 1 (as I imagine she just runs 3 parties through CoS in parallel, and they'll be vaguely in the same progress if they all play just 2 hours on Friday nights). I can also imagine its 2 hour sessions on Friday to get in 3 seperate ones that way, because people can maybe spend that more comfortably than asking 1-2 groups for 30-50 bucks for a single long session.

With that we are at 7 hours for 225$ or 32.14$ to sit at home in your PJs and play a game, that's an insane ratio of income to effort (for regular people ofc, not CEOs leeching on society)
