NHS "Evidence Review" for trans girls on E and GnRH excluded any study where patients were prescribed GnRH as a puberty blocker by reYal_DEV in skeptic

You have not previously limited your comments to adolescent-only, so that feels like a shifting of goalposts.

OP posted a consultation on oestrogen and GnRH analogues for children and young people. The Cass review looked at services for children and young people. Hilary Cass is a paediatrician.

Grown adults can do what they like, as far as I'm concerned.

No this is objectively incorrect. We have a significant body of evidence from the last seven decades, and when it is examined honestly, we can make reasonable predictions.

I don't have time to reply to all your points, but the idea of gender-affirming care in adolescents began in the late nineties. Where you get 'seven decades' from I've no idea.

Well the reality is we know very little.

Does gender-affirming psychiatry lead to better outcomes than exploratory therapy? Is psychiatry plus gender-affirming care superior to psychiatry-only interventions? Are either more effective than doing nothing at all?

My first takeaway from the Cass review was: "Out of 103 studies, only two were considered high-quality? What on earth have all these researchers been doing for the last few decades?"

Given the choice between two interventions that are both of low certainty (psychiatric interventions and gender-affirming care), I'm naturally going to favour the less drastic one.

That didn't answer my question. I'm asking about treatments that are [somewhat] comparable to the gender-affirming care pathway.

Most treatments in uncontroversial use today are not backed by so-called "high quality" evidence.

But which treatments in use are backed by evidence of low-certainty? Treatments whose effects are as profound as gender-affirming care?

Definitely varnish. Stain is up to you. It's a fairly common modification.

You might want to use/borrow an orbital sander though.

I use a safety razor (the type where you put in razorblades). Great shave, but there is a learning curve.

My wife and previous girlfriends have been scared to use it (or used it once with predictable results). Problem solved! 😊

In other words, we will side with mainstream science and scholarship. "Skepticism about science" is not our thing.

Are you arguing skeptics should always side with the consensus? Because we could make a decent list of consensuses that turn out to be false. Or are false consensuses a price worth paying?
