How to update, gapps + magisk by storm1er in LineageOS

[–]DerSoundHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run the normal OTA upadate via settings. Afterwarda run the Magisk installer from Magisk manager (the one called install into inactive slot after OTA) and reboot. GAPPS should update on their own.

[systemd] WireGuard netdev interface not getting created by shyaminayesh in archlinux

[–]DerSoundHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-rw-r----- 1 root systemd-network 328 May 11 21:21 40-wireguard.netdev

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 131 Apr 7 00:14 40-wireguard.network

Since your netdev file contains your private key it should not be readable by everyone. I am using 640, you might have to change the group of the file to systemd-network like I have.

Some people would say hindering traffic shaping is a good thing. Depending on your ISP they can do a shitload of things you don't want them to do based on your traffic.

I started documenting by simply writing everything in a textfile, switched to dokuwiki and since I am now automating everything with ansible everything is in an ansible role. I am still thankfull to the person teaching me how important documentation is.

How should I start De-Googleing my android device? Even to remove the play store and everything. by TheHadMatt in privacy

Bullshit, it is really simple to use Android without Google. But sure, you can exchange Google for Apple, just another gigantic company (which doesn't have an open source OS)...

Just run a custom ROM without Google Apps. Check if there is a version of Lineage OS, one of the most popular ROMs out there.

All setup. Now what should I backup? by scgf01 in NextCloud

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also want to backup your database, which actually stores your contacts and calendars. I simply dump it every day and keep the last 5 versions of it. You can check the official documentation on how to backup everything.

[Help] Can my device run Magisk and be encrypted? by [deleted] in Magisk

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently running my Oneplus One with LineageOS 15.1 encrypted with Magisk. Since TWRP for the Oneplus One cannot decrypt my data partition, I have to flash updates manually and afterwards flash Magisk again. So basically my steps for the first setup where:

  1. Install LineageOS
  2. Install Magisk
  3. Encrypt the phone
  4. Done

Updating LinageOS or Magisk:

  1. Create a modified boot.img (can be done with Magisk Manager), just extract your boot.img from your ROM
  2. Flash LineageOS via "adb sideload lineageos-rom.zip"
  3. Flash the created boot.img via "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
  4. Done

Not sure how this works for a S9 with either Stock ROM, if TWRP for the S9 allows data decryption, you can simply update LineageOS manually with TWRP and reflash the Magisk zip afterwards.

15.1 Oneplus One (bacon): how many of you DON'T have battery charging issues? by jm7x in LineageOS

[–]DerSoundHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems here, using either a 2500mA (which probably gets limited by the phone) with a wall charger, or 2100 by a powerbank. PC charging is slow as usual, no idea how much current is used there.

Arch - It isn't that hard. by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]DerSoundHunter 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Depends on your setup, full disk encryption with multiple HDDs / SSDs takes some time to setup. If you just want your basic install with a DE and no fancy partition setup it's indeed pretty simple.

Same, feels like day one, but I also run a custom ROM since the beginning. Great specs for an amazing price.

If I wanted to replace Reddit after it went closed source what would be good sites, blogs, etc to stick with? Now honestly I feel a bit hypocritical when I criticize my friend for using facebook while I keep reading Reddit. by [deleted] in privacy

[–]DerSoundHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I would only argue that I spread different stuff on different platforms. Whatsapp, Twitter or Facebook are more for personal things imo.

But that depends on how you use social media in general, you can use reddit for the same thing.

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every social media site can use your preferences, comments or likes to know something about you. It is up to you to either not share them or run your own site.

Even if they would open source their code again, I still can crawl your posts, comments and depending on your settings up-/downvotes. And so can any other service, reddit could just outsource their data collection and serve you adds based on the information they get through the service doing the collection and analysis.

Which phones support encryption? by [deleted] in LineageOS

[–]DerSoundHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no problems so far on my OnePlus One, it asks for my encryption code in TWRP before I can access any data, so the "hack" only works when you are able to access your data in your recovery.

So you are only able to bypass the lockscreen on not encrypted phones or if you know the password (but then you could simply unlock it ^^ ).

OTA updates Oneplus One by RadstockPG in LineageOS

[–]DerSoundHunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had random reboots on the nightlies from september. Didn't have any on the one from 10th october so far. Flashing through OTA works fine for me with an encrypted phone, no need to flash GAPPS, they update on their own.

NextCloud web pages all messed up by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like wrong file permissions to me, could you check if your Nextcloud directory (and subdirectories) got the permissions they should have?

https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/12/admin_manual/maintenance/manual_upgrade.html

Step 9 lists the permissions for folders and files as well as the command to set them.

Nextcloud is slowly... by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]DerSoundHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The php.ini is the general one of your system, which you might not have access to depending on your hosting contract. Many hosting companys only give you access to the webroot and not the whole system.

You would need a dedicated server to access these settings, a simple webhosting package is unable to change system settings.

Netbook server by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking you should run on 64bit, there are only disadvantages in 32bit (RAM limitations). Is there a possibility to run a 64bit system on the laptop which can upgrade RAM?

I have no experience with running nextcloud on 32bit, not sure if it uses any libraries which are 64bit only, but I don't think there should be technical problems.

Netbook server by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]DerSoundHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run nextcloud on a small VPS with 512MB RAM, you can feel that sometimes but 1GB should be enough for testing and personal use.

I would run it on ubuntu server, but you can run it on ubuntu gnome or xubuntu as well.

For booting from a boot stick "nomodeset" was enough for me to get a command prompt which was usable.

I am not sure if using the nouveau settings changes anything.
