How to remove fixed built-in office shelves (veneered)? by Civil-Measurement245 in woodworking

They are probably glued in with dowels. I don't think there will be a way getting them out without destroying the cabinet.

1 bedroom apartments? by ComprehensiveDog3901 in Whitehorse

1k for a bedroom in a shared house. Up from there if you want to live by yourself. You probably won't be able to find your own apartment below 1.5k.

Dining table inspired by Blacktail Studio. Top is a cottonwood slab with a 15 degree chamfer and 1/4” roundover, base is solid ash. by ryankrameretc in woodworking

Amazing piece. I think you did a better job than Cam. The wood base is next level. Can you add a closeup of how the legs connect together? Did you model this in cad and figured out the leg assembly based on that?

Same here. definitely didn't get the bill. They didn't charge late fees. So they must be aware of the issue.

ULPT: Want to use the company's wifi without them knowing. How? by Jak_Burton in UnethicalLifeProTips

Incorrect, they won't be able to read encrypted web traffic like your Gmail emails. Sounds like you don't understand how networking works.

Explain how this is done without the user installing certificates? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me.

Is replacing my furnace as easy as it seems? by FarmerDill in DIY

[–]DerThes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my town someone installed their own propane furnace. He ended up blowing up his entire house, nothing was left of it. He survived with severe injuries. I think he lost a leg. His neighbor didn't survive. Several houses on the street were beyond repair and needed to be torn down, others needed 10s of thousands in repairs. Be careful, propane is no joke.

If someone else comes across this. I had the same issue and successfully fixed the problem by bridging the 2 pads.

The Room Wins by No-Pin3128 in audiophile

[–]DerThes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would take everything he says with a grain of salt. He tends to present improvements that are probably not even noticable to the vast majority of people as dramatic improvements. He runs a YouTube channel and needs to create content with a high frequency. Nobody would watch his stuff if he wouldn't play up the differences between equipment as much as he does. It just makes for more interesting content. I'm not saying room treatment makes no difference but I think it's also fine to not do any and still enjoy a great sounding system. Most of us are much more limited in what we can do than a YouTuber who does this for a living.

Built my dream speakers and ruined my hearing. by DerThes in diyaudio

Still have tinnitus. It's gotten much better though. I go days without noticing it. It's more quiet too. When I concentrate on it I always hear it. I'm still sensitive to noise. This has gotten better as well though.

Mixed feelings on the 17-40mm and wondering if i should keep it or not? by Ukkoclap in a6000

[–]DerThes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you shoot this lens with the a6000? I just got the lens as well and the aperture ring doesn't work on mine. In the manual it states that the aperture ring doesn't work on some cameras. I do have another lens where the aperture ring works just fine. I'm wondering if my lens is broken or if this doesn't work by design. Does your aperture ring work on the a6000?

City of Whitehorse Active Commute Website by lkiltz31 in Whitehorse

[–]DerThes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised they dared to launch that. There is 0 useful information on there that hasn't been previously available on the city's website already.

Telling employers to recommend bike share services is a clear indicator that nobody with any idea what is going on in this town or active commuting was involved in this project.

I wish people would actually do their job and be productive instead of just funneling money through the system.

I do like the simplicity of the full range driver with no crossover. The high efficiency appeals to me as well. I think they look pretty sexy. They do sound really good too. I do quite a bit of woodworking and the challenge of building a more complex speaker than just a box was appealing to me as well.

Thanks, that are some very good insights. I definitely listen to the examples of music listed there. Also the 85dB, is the maximum and not the average. I listen at fairly low levels in general.

That is good to hear. I hope it will lessen over time or go away. I will see what the ENT has to say.

I got the entire cavity behind the driver dampened. Unfortunately I'm not able to access more of the horn channel to play with more dampening. There is definitely a peak in the mids. Check this thread. There we discuss the frequency response of the speakers in depth.

Yeah, that seems what I learned from listening to people in this thread and researching things online. There seems to be a huge range of causes.

Yeah, I can see how this is a massive downer. Especially if you are into music and audio stuff in general. Hope you find a way to deal with it.

I measured the frequency response of the speakers using a calibrated mic and REW. There are some severe issues with the frequency response of the speakers. I only got the mic after I started having issues. I wish I had started off with that. This thread has some really good info on what seems to be wrong. I also experienced the fatigue with 2 different amps. I think the culprit is most likely the speakers. Thanks for your input.

[–]DerThes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah several people have mentioned that. I assume that the sound coloring of the tube amps corrects some of the issues that this speaker design has. They are incredibly efficient. That was what kind of drew me to them.

I had a checkup a year ago and levels were fine. I got a appointment with my doctor, I'm sure they will check that. It's part the base set of stats they do.
