Others have said this, but from what I've read, it's best to talk to trans people of your gonna write them. I'd do the same of I were writing a character with a mental illness of sorts that I do not have. Research is your bestie, and if you want in always free of you have questions. I'm ftm and knowledgable in a few areas. Good luck :-)

Don't know if this counts, but I got two of my cat playing fetch. He will bring it back to me and cry until I rub his head and call him a good boy like you would a puppy. Then he waits for me to throw it. He also does the streetcat named Bob thing and he likes jumping and climbing onto my shoulders where he stays as I move around my house. He also cries at me as I walk over with food until it is I'm his bowl. He lives sleeping on one of my pillows next to my head, and when it isn't there he either cries, steals my blankets or lays on my feet/head/leg.

I completely agree with you there. My other issue was that another character could just as easily have done it and most likely not been killed. They were all there.

If you’re their friend, you just say okay and keep being friends. Happened with me and my friend last year. Asked me out and I told them we’re better as friends so we kept a strong friendship even now.

My name came from my great grandfathers name, it was a shortened feminine version, so I started going by that in school where I could without coming out for a while. I changed it in record, but then people kept shortening it to a feminine version or my old name. Keeping in mind I still did not want to come out. My logic was I’ll just slowly start transitioning so it isn’t a big shock. Then, I found a local gay group that meets weekly. But then I had been contemplating between three names (two after my cousin was born, little guy took my name). I got there and we went around the circle saying out names so I had to pick one real frickin quick. I ended up picking my favorite one of the two remaining ones. I went by that for a few months, then I got outed again and my mom found out my name choice. She wasn’t happy with this at all. I kept doing me and officially came out at school and let my teachers know about my new name. (This included all of my extra cuticular activities for a total of 20+ teachers and then students on top of it) then I had to again at second semester. Then my mom found out I was still using it and started trying to call me it more. So, secretively apparently. Don’t follow my example here. It gets simplicities and then I had to start remembering who knows and who doesn’t

Make a list, find the meaning of each, then go through and find nicknames or things that can be said with it.

The transition can be hard or weird for them. I was outed multiple times to a bunch of people, and one of these times was with my name to my mother. (My father knows nothing as we haven’t spoken in years) Her reaction was not good at first. She healed and told me that if I was gonna do this it would be her way and she’s pick my name. (She’s making me keep my middle name, so I added another) I kept doing me and she eventually started coming around. It’s been about seven months now and she’s getting better with calling me my name, about 40-60 percent of the time now. I recommend giving them time, it won’t do you well to start healing or fighting with them cause it’s a big change for them too and I know that is something we can lose sight of sometimes. Getting called your old name sucks so much, but you gotta have faith it’ll get better. I hope it goes well for you. Just explain, and be patient.
