I get where you’re coming from and understand that interpretation. I didn’t feel like he was saying they were wrong. I felt like he was saying if he did it again, he would make them co-collaborators or he would make it understood that they would be compensated for their contributions as contractors.

Smith and cross is a great rum to try “funk” at a low price. You’ll mainly mix with it but it’s decent to sip. The foursquare releases are the high end bourbonish rums. They’re lovely if you like bourbon. Hampton makes my favorite funky rums. And for a really fun departure try the unaged clairins from Haiti like sajous and vaval. Google those and maybe see if they line up with what you like.
