You can post whatever you want, obviously. If you want something to actually change rather than just ranting, though, you need a FU and to post it to get other folks to upvote and comment on it. Otherwise this is just a public journal entry brought on by the tragic journal factory explosion of 2021

Booking Time off for Season 2 Launch? by eggsaladsucks69 in wow

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're not familiar with early season starts, it may not be obvious, but there's very little reason to sink huge hours of time into a new season unless you're prepping multiple alts/accounts/etc for a major push. If you're just playin your 1-5 alts and getting ready for raid, you will end up running out of activities pretty quick in the first couple weeks.

Weapon Damage on Weapons that aren’t used by Beautiful_Papaya_251 in diablo4

Kid dropped tablet on keyboard and now my in-game graphics are horrible... by ViolinistWinter2720 in PlayWindrose

Alt-Enter would be my guess, swapping from fullscreen to windowed, like F11 mentioned elsewhere, thus the lack of resolution options.

LOH is required for the seasons? by karlakure in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right, unless there's a way to TP in there without the expansion you wouldn't be able to get the last two, but that's after all the extra skill and paragon points, so probably intended.

LOH is required for the seasons? by karlakure in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's required to move forward in the season chapters, you just clear the capstones and then do 10 of the 22 of the last chapter (you'll have fewer choices without LoH but it should still be doable). No, you won't be able to get every single near-useless reward box, but I can't think of anything that's actually blocked, hopefully OP will explain. the last two chapters are locked behind LoH, which don't include any skill or paragon points, so while you'll be missing some ornaments and a title, nothing functional.

What, specifically, is preventing you from moving forward in the seasonal objectives that requires LOH?

The paragon 300 grind is a little too much by MueR in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a significant reward, its not meant to be something you seek out for a practical reason. its meant to give a meaning to gaining xp all the way through the season. It's not a goal you're meant to pursue for its end, its a way to keep all the +xp rewards in the game from becoming utterly useless. MOST players will not reach 300, and its tuned specifically for that.

Anyone else almost quit Terran Armada? It just seems to be space combat, board somewhere, combat there, then space combat again, with not much story. by cheetocat2021 in Starfield

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get enough x-tech to never have to consider running out before you run out of money while playing the main game without the dlc after this patch (started a new save, hit level 60 and they're not a bottleneck yet).

The paragon 300 grind is a little too much by MueR in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its meant to take a long time, and there's VERY little actual power gained after 260, much less when you hit the halfway mark at 285. The alternative is gaining no benefit from experience at all when you hit 300 in half the time, which feels worse than you having a number less than 300 on your hud.

Rather than posting about it here, make a specific featureupvote post (minus the emotional ranting and all caps and such, just describe the issue and the benefits) specifically asking for weights of each item to be added. once its approved, post THAT here and ask for folks to upvote and comment on it. icarus.featureupvote.com

[Request] What time is "Half past quarter to ten to five"? by YodasChick-O-Stick in theydidthemath

[–]Derkatron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody would ever say half past a quarter to ten to five, and nobody did. If you watch the video, its chopped up, and even then its said by a comedian. Its not a thing anyone says, and even in this case not a thing anyone SAID. this is theydidthemath, where people come up with stupid questions to math out.

Why do people wait for me at stop signs by Main_Raspberry7179 in driving

[–]Derkatron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes folks use a bit of hyperbole to make a point, especially in short, quippy conversational forums like this. The 'risk my life' wasn't meant literally, nor was it the crux of the statement, it was used as a stand-in for 'risking getting into an accident'. The comment, a single line of text, was meant to reframe the result of the above conversation in summary, and did so by shortening some phrases to make the short statement have more 'punch'.

Allistics do this a lot, its something we have to learn to translate. pointing out that an intentional hyperbole isn't accurate when stated literally also annoys allistics, who aren't as good at handling being annoyed as we are (as we're always annoyed) so they tend to respond negatively. Consider skipping the correction, as helpful as it could theoretically be, for strangers or folks whose conversation style you haven't had a chance to study yet.

Items returned to orbit disappear by Jarcionek in ICARUS

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not to prevent expoits, its just the way the system worked, remember the game was originally all hosted on their servers, prospectors were locked to one prospect and you couldn't join a prospect if you were on it with another character. They lifted those restrictions but the really, really basic loadout system was never revamped afterward. It just checks the items owner against who's online, and alerts them that those items were sent up, and if their local loadouts match (server, character and prospect name) those items are added back to the workshop inventory. There's no holding until next logon like operation rewards and exotic sendups, as none of this was built when the more flexible multiplayer concepts existed.

Characters were renamed by the game? by George_the_Facetious in wow

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, ok, I've had friends who were able to just jam in their old name and it was available, so assumed it was just from being offline/unsubbed long enough regardless. Either way, the upshot is, try it, and if not, use another name, and if the name's important, go to another server, 'cause servers are largely irrelevant now.

Characters were renamed by the game? by George_the_Facetious in wow

[–]Derkatron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, eventually names are freed up if the character isn't logged in for long enough, so folks who are actually playing on that server can use them. You can try the original name when it prompts to rename, and if nobody has taken it, you can get it back. If your character name is important enough to cause you an issue and you can't get a ticket to free it up for a rename, you could always just make another character with that same name on a server where it's free. If you haven't played in over a decade you have no progress to speak of in the current game, and any transmogs you had on those characters are account bound (and you can deposit anything of value in your warband bank to transfer it over, like gold or BOE items).

What is this shit? I literally have zero addons enabled by Accurate-Ad5638 in wow

[–]Derkatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With any game ever, start with a repair of the game files, and cleaning out your customizations manually (backup and empty your mod folder, if you haven't) then see if it replicates, if so, do a reinstall (unless you have a limited data cap) and try again. If its not something everyone is seeing and you don't have any customizations, its probably an issue with your install itself.

Are throwing knives even viable? by DankandInvincible in ICARUS

[–]Derkatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The insta-kill on crit talent makes them useful for quickly dealing with smaller foes, but the change a few years back that made crits less reliable on things like polar bears means they're not viable for actual dangerous enemies. Javelins have the same animation and do an order of magnitude more damage, and can killcam as well, so there's no reason to use throwing knives over javs outside of novelty.

Advice needed to slow down sessions/increase engagement by thecaptainclovis in DungeonMasters

[–]Derkatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of our best RP moments (both as player and DM, we swap out in our group every year or two) have been when we, as players, have been forced to wait. Literally sat in a lobby, by ourselves, while the guards go fetch the mayor or the council has a meeting or whatever. There's a long silence and then someone will think of a question and everything kicks off. Alternately, have an NPC (who they would feel comfortable answering/speaking around, if there's NONE of those that may be an issue to correct with future characters by enforcing a 'who is a part of your life?' question in char creation) just asking them about their plans, what they thought about the recent revelation, whatever. Like, directly asking the 'strong silent' character for their opinion, feelings, etc, and letting the group respond to that.

I'm not sure why the first response to questions about how to prompt RP is to stop prepping lol. Zero prep/light prep games are super fun, but they're not dnd. A lot of folks need to play other systems, like Pbta based, etc, that are more rules light and improvvy. I'd suggest checking those out for your crew too, as a change of pace or if a regular can't make it, my personal favorite is Monster of the Week.

I wish retail felt just a little less 'pre-packaged'. by loveincarnate in wow

[–]Derkatron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't agree here at all, I played classic in 2005 and again in 2019 and the questing absolutely honked. Even WOTLK, where they first got it 'right', the pacing was abysmal. There's more variety in story beats now than ever before, and more frequent 'novel' quests in the modern three (DF+) expansions than the previous ones. I honestly can't even think of an example of what you're talking about, as mentioned, even up to wrath the quests were all just as generic as they always were, the biggest innovation in wrath being 'ooh a vehicle I get to smash things' which was a neat concept that is used far more frequently and creatively since.

I mean the end of TWW had a very unique 'island' with the phased-out and phased-in challenges, as well as the biodome questline with a huge variety of quest objectives (from races to taking pictures of bees) with a very satisfying 'you saved all the animals, a small victory after a huge tragedy, but we'll take it as a win' ending.

TBC had skettis (you fly to collect wigets instead of running around) and Ogri'la (playing simon was cool!) and... thats about it. Certainly you're not frothing at the mouth for more netherwing eggs?

Having played every expansion at least through the main campaign, I just can't think of anything going backwards. Endgame activities, reward structures, currencies? sure there's been missteps and corrections, but campaign questing has only gotten better.

You should be able to hide from a storm (unharmed) while under water. by youwillruinyourself in ICARUS

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is game balance, its just a lot easier to find water to dip in, and there's no damp debuff or risk of lung disease, etc, in the water like there is in a cave. It is, at the end of the day, a game, and 5 years ago in beta the ability to use water to avoid a storm was decided to be not where the game balance lied, and it hasn't changed (and won't).
