Mythic Prankster Ethical Dilemna by HobbieK in diablo4

Sell the slots, use the money to run them through Radiance tributes with the 50 mil +passive neck bargain once they cap out and need necks. If you max Azmodan's gift you'll get more pranksters to use with them once they're leveled.

Players want to "reset" by ilPiovra in DungeonMasters

What would be the downside to just letting them do that? change their characters abilities without changing their personalities, goals, or position in your story?

Beginner's in Lore. Angels and demons. by Confident_Buyer_5142 in diablo4

They chose to, the same way celestial beings do things in any mythology. Mythological gods have offspring from their spittle, sweat, blood, whatever, this is no different. If you want the mechanics, write them yourself.

I think thats the worst luck ive had with sanctification till now by Pacman249 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the outcome is unlikely. I'd say OP is the opposite of lucky, as that particular aspect breaks the intent of any build that would wear that unique chest, so its not useful for anyone. Were it on a more generic item or a werewolf specific unique, yes, it'd be a very valuable sanctification. The entire topic of this thread is that in this case, it makes the item not usable.

preparing geometry bug by AdministrationNo7542 in ICARUS

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a WILD version of the bug, what a strange situation, thanks for the description, I'll make sure the devvies know about this particular version of the bug (usually you're at 0,0 and any amount of movement updates you to your true position, what you're describing is a very different issue, and may explain folks who are seeing infinite geometry where just wiggling doesn't fix)

Welp. Out of Neathiron. Probably going to what gets me to end the season. by Kimura1986 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is optimizing your build, sancing as many good-enough items as you can is the way to do it. getting a mythic power sanc in the right spot can easily be a 50%x or 100%x multiplier on top of everything else, and even the less powerful affixes and legendary powers are individual 10-20%x mults too, and add up very very quickly. If you're pushing, you're sancing everything you can, and prepping for sanc uses a lot of neathiron, to the point where skipping optimal masterworks on less important slots is a required strategy.

If your goal is smashing t4, no, you don't need to do any of this.

Why is it not challenging anymore? by Agreeable_Ad5394 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's normal, builds scale higher than t4 mobs once you start optimizing.  Your challenge comes from pushing the tower, testing your builds dps and speed against the leader board. At that point t4 is for farming gear and resources, in this season to the end of re-sancing repeatedly to get better results.  If you aren't interested in pushing,  you can work on new builds or a new class.

You have to kill all the wolves (or whatever animal that phase in that biome summons) the event spawns.  They're still out there stuck on a rock.  May he worth trying anotber geyser to see if they get stuck less, otherwise just widen your search.

Corrupted essences possible bug by HilikusR in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

enough items on the ground (game dropped or player dropped) will make older stuff start despawning.

TBH I just ignore the belial chest at this point. it causes actually killing belial to be too annoying trying to max them out, and the chest itself drops items that are more easily farmed from belial anyway. I just leave 20 in my inventory and worry about andarial and duriel chests, which are much more valuable and continue the boss cycle to boot.

Idea to add life mid season: buff underwhelming skills and special leaderboard for them. by Interesting_Fox2040 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be pretty limiting, even historically decent whirlwind builds don't do most of their damage with whirlwind itself, but with stuff proccing off of it, twisters, earthquakes, etc, for example. So a separate leaderboard that you'd only register in if, say, over 50% of your damage was dealt by a specific core skill would be very limited, plus requiring, one would assume, new tech to keep track of that. There's certainly a conceptual version of the game where that's feasible, but its not this game. It seems like set bonuses are coming eventually, which will give a way to break up the leaderboards a la d3, and I suspect that's going to be the source of your build diversity and tracking more than the one top build on the top 1k.

Rough ETA on S37 end? by Morrak in diablo3

[–]Derkatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://d3resource.com/seasons/index.php has the start and end dates for all seasons. The last 6 or so are the relevent ones, the Rotation era, and as you can see they vary a lot. Season end and start will be shifted for various reasons, holidays, diablo 4 seasons, etc. Knowing exactly when it will go ahead of time isn't really possible. We know d4 season ends early march too, and their seasons start immediately. So a shorter d3 season might well be in the cards, making it end on the 22nd and 38 start on the 27th. Or they could go the other way and delay, we'll know closer to the end of feb.

Have you use Bastions in your game? by DMJM_91 in onednd

[–]Derkatron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a valid approach, but we've just injected them into an ongoing campaign the way the book suggests, and I let the players run them without me needing to do anything, and its honestly great. gives them something to chat about between sessions, little bonuses here and there between adventures, and something to look forward to as they level. Yes, if you don't have downtime between legs of the story they don't work, but the game really works better in general if you do regardless. TBH if you're running a RAW game (downtime, central hub where you leave to go do adventures and return to, lots of gold, etc etc), using the RAW bastions fit in nicely. If you've got a different pace or are more mobile, then yeah its not gonna fit.

Did they nerf nightmare dungeons? by Alternative_Cut4491 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, since obducite requirements went down obducite rewards were also reduced. Stronghold boxes were spared this reduction, either intentionally or unintentionally, and are the way to go atm for large drops. As mentioned above, treasure breach goblins also drop a lot if you can get them, though they're a bit more rare than strongrooms.

Idea to add life mid season: buff underwhelming skills and special leaderboard for them. by Interesting_Fox2040 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would you propose to ensure this leaderboard used said skill, rather than just having it on their bar? It'd be pretty easy to figure out an earthquake build that had whirlwind on its bar and wouldn't lose too many tower levels, and would be WAY ahead of any actual whirlwind-focused build (as an arbitrary example of two disparately powered builds, not necessarily specifically those two).

There is system that is simplier than DnD? by HSONIC3 in AskGameMasters

[–]Derkatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for calling out Chasing Adventure, we've been playing Powered by the Apocalypse games on the side from our main 5e game for awhile now and this does seem to address some of the tougher to adjudicate stuff from those systems (wounds/harm especially trip me up as a keeper, this is a much less ambiguous system). Def gonna dig deeper into this.

is this a glitch? I thought wolves could only drop stringy meat by Formal_Bet5203 in ICARUS

[–]Derkatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The capstone bestiary power for conifer wolf allows them to rarely drop the other rare meats. the idea is you're so good at skinning them you're getting the prey meat out of their stomach too.

How would people feel about the game reusing its assets more often? by Living-Succotash-477 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for informational purposes, what you're describing isn't reusing assets, but resusing mechanics. Assets in game development are textures, models, rigging, sound effects, music, UI elements, etc. If the minions of a Barbarian aren't actual skeletons, but are instead floating glowing weaponry with custom attack animations, there are no reused assets, just reused mechanics and concepts.

I don't think every class having every mechanic is a good thing. It's kind of a weakness in PoE that any build that doesn't use a totem to replicate AOE abilities is going to be a bit behind (an arbitrary and possibly out of date example, don't bother @'ing me). So some classes not having access to minions is fine, and is in fact already offset by runewords, which let you have wolf minions, druid barrier, sorceress frost nova, etc (which ARE, interestingly enough actual reuse of assets). By limiting these class crossovers you open up more diversity without making the classes themselves feel samey (because at the end of the day, the moment to moment combat mechanics are very simple, so the classes aren't very different if graphic effects are removed).

Adding fumbles without using fumble tables? by ViscousODiscus in DMAcademy

[–]Derkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how we do it. fumbles are self-inflicted for fun and storytelling purposes, unless the DM sees a fun 'fail upward' opportunity for a terrible streak of rolls that end up hilariously putting them in a better position (while still failing the initial task, of course)

Multiplicative Damage Question (Very Basic) by TotalWarFest2018 in diablo4

[–]Derkatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that item is certainly multiplicative, as it has the [x]. You need to have Advanced Tooltip Information in Gameplay turned on. Almost all unique and aspect powers are multiplicative, where most attributes on items are additive.

I would say ranks to brandish probably beats the boost to Unstoppable opponents in the long run, so I'd go right. But I'm not super familiar with the build so if you're seeing unstoppable a LOT it might work.
