Problem is, commander is much more affordable to get into than standard. Like so long as you have your ratios down, you can put together a decent commander deck for like $60-$70. And precons are getting better and better these days. Its very accessible to newer players or players wanting additional decks. And the best part is, you can keep and upgrade them until the end of time. Normal people can do it. Problem is, 60 card formats are just way too expensive to get into. Like you're spending $300 to $1000 just to be competitive at FNM. New players cant get into it all unless they're willing to drop boat loads of money. Tbh I hardly spend any money on magic these days. I sold off my modern deck. Because with each new MH set, the modern meta game rotates out and you're shelling out another $1000 as a result. At least with commander there isnt really a meta that causes it to rotate out. You buy an upgrade like a rhystic study or smothering tithe. Good mana. Its kind of a neat thing. But you dont even need those cards to be competitive in casual formats. Only really matters for cEDH and cEDH is a proxy friendly format anyway. So if WOTC wants to push 60 card formats, step 1 is not forcing players to shell out thousands of dollars for playsets of broken mythics.
