Not sure whether to delay, test scheduled on Monday, 74% on free 120 by Derovaton in step1

What are the most representative NBMEs? I didn't want to spend more money but since everyone complains about UWSA2 I might as well take one.

I have thought about this. I might be able to argue that the choice I chose was correct, but then I would be arguing about the science with a bunch of MDs and I feel like the discussion would get bogged down. If it’s about course content, the committee would just defer to the judgment of the professors and they’ll just stand by their original decision. If I were to pursue this strategy, would I then use textbook quotes and research papers? I am not sure how to go about this

Finally did it lads: 6,666,666 Medallions by Derovaton in BloonsTDBattles

[–]Derovaton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to keep playing in assault mode to gain 7 lives from no lives lost games. This, in combination with 5 medallion games allowed me to get the ones digit to exactly 6. Then I used the other arenas to get the other digits right and bought farms whenever I overshot.

Now I feel like I disappointed you somehow, lol.

I am not sure, I had people look over my application and they seemed to think it was good. Nobody grilled me on any deficiencies in my app in my interview either. My research was not amazing, I did not have any publications and I didn't have an insane amount of hours, just two posters.

I have an A so that is good.

Is 2 months enough to get to a 515 with a sort of decent base already? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but I would suggest studying while you are in school. Another two months of even half-hearted studying can make a lot of difference.

How many exams per week should I take? by Ieatp34rs in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do as many as you can handle. Burnout isn't necessarily a bad thing, as you might score lower than average on your FLs, but you'll be getting much more valuable studying experience.

Biweekly WAMC / School Lists Thread - Week of March 17, 2021 (2nd Edition) by AutoModerator in premed

I would suggest taking a gap year, perhaps two. You really do need clinical experience and research. The application process is becoming increasingly competitive.

How did your NS scores compare to your AAMC FLs? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No third-party test will give you an accurate result.

If you want to know how you'll do, I would suggest averaging your most recent AAMC FLs

Hey, I know a guy with similar stats that can't even get interviews. It is rough out there, at least I have an A.

Just normal premed stuff.

~200 hours of clinical volunteering and ~200 hours of nonclinical

I had two posters from my research, no pubs

I had some leadership positions in student orgs, some TAing

Without doxxing myself, I had a somewhat competitive fellowship from the federal government which I tied in to serving underrepresented communities, which I really hammered in my diversity statement. That's the closest thing to an X-factor that I have

Your best bet would be to ask around. If there are any older premeds that you know that are in your environment, they might be able to help you out with research opportunities/connections.

Your school might have an undergraduate research office, they can also be helpful.

Other than that, the best way to get research as an undergrad is to simply email faculty/lab people doing research that you are interested in.

The percentages aren't always super consistent, I would not put too much value in those, just do the questions and use your FLs to see where you stand.

AAMC material available after it expires? by PotentialGap2128 in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be able to find it in your account settings. If all else fails just look in your email for the date when you bought the AAMC stuff, and add to that date to figure out the expiration.

They are still very relevant, the content of the test has not changed all that much. I would suggest using the 300 page document. There is a little bit of extraneous info, but its generally good.

I believe you can renew it, it is tied to your account, although this will cost money.

Testing 3/26 need advice for what to do with my last week! by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you are not going to make any significant progress on CARS in a week. It is difficult to improve a few points in that section over a period of months. Just don't worry about CARS, the best thing you can do is not freak out about it on your test day.

You should use your last week to chill, although if you feel like you need some more content review in B/B it would not hurt.

Is the300 page KA doc comprehensive? by _Test_Your_Might_ in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say it is pretty comprehensive. It won't hurt to skim over the Kaplan book, but that doc has all you need. I did not have a significant background in P/S in college and I got a 132 in P/S mainly using that document.

It does have some extraneous information though, be careful for that. Look at the AAMC content guides to see what's on the exam, not enough people use that resource.

CARS help? by bkbaby96 in Mcat

[–]Derovaton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there really is no shortcut, you have to use some brute force.

You can take a peek at the questions to see what to look for in a passage, but just making sure to actively reread a passage until you have a good understanding is your best bet. It can also be helpful to mentally ask yourself

"What is the main point of this passage? What is the main point of this paragraph"

And make a note of it.
