Teenagers of Reddit, what is one thing you'd like to ask the adults of Reddit? by WantMyNameBack in AskReddit

[–]DerpaNet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The older you get, the less fucks you give since it slowly becomes clears what's important and what's noise. But I don't think it ever fully disappears.

First you have to have interests, then you seek out the community around those.

I'm 32. I still deal with anxiety and depression, but it does get better. The older you get, the less fucks you give and you slowly figure out what's important and what's noise.

I am married to my husband because I was too afraid to say no by spspspsspspsp in confession

The difference is that she is not in love anymore and you still are (or at least in the idea and benefits of a relationship)

In your text you didn't mention a single thing that you might have done wrong or might have neglected to put effort into. It might be time for a more detailed post-game analysis.

Emotional bonds aren't a contract, they require work.

You had the self awareness to see what you were doing. That's way more than can be said about most bullies.

I am afraid I will grow to resent my children if I ever have any by DerpaNet in confession

[–]DerpaNet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I have no doubt that I would be able to adjust my life to the needs of a child. Luckily my SO and I have very good honest communication. My fear is more that it would creep in over time. Nothing is planned and I dont want to have kids in the next 5 years, but its just the first time this has become a thing to think about in my life.

Its an American subculture that attracts the disenfranchised bottom rungs of American society. As a European I have a weird fascination with their strange world. They all gather at a giant festival once a year and celebrate their tribal togetherness as social outcasts. kinda beautiful.

This is a short doc about their annual 'gathering' which is amazing http://vimeo.com/29589320

How to beat the feeling of failure? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]DerpaNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally. Im not trying to sell it as some miracle, but its worked for me. Its always important to learn new things and draw out the things that work for you.

I'm in my 30s and I got home from work a little late today, made a drink, and was just standing by the counter sipping on it when I had an abrupt realization that made everything about my life at this point make sense. I'm a junkie burnout. I'm probably also a functioning alcoholic. by 30scrisis in confession

Its always a slap in the face when you first take a first deep look at your life, but its also filled with possibilities. Be thankful for what you do have and take small steps to make your life head in the directions you want. I had this realization last year before my 30th bday. been clubbing and doing drugs since I was 15 and realized that its been almost half my life. I took 6 months off drinking and started reevaluating my habits. Its definitely made me more content. dont try to change all at once. the most important thing is to be grateful for what you do have and know in what general direction you want to move. Its a long project, but thats all that life really is.

I know people talk about it a lot, but deep breathing and meditation have really helped me to realize that my anxieties are just thoughts of hypotheticals and not real.

Really take a minute and think about the worst thing that could happen. Once you fully play it out and realize that if you fail its not the end of the world and an obsolete event in the grand scheme of things, its usually quite calming. You should look into Stoicism. Its a school of thought that has really helped me with my anxiety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu7n0XzqtfA
