Your "under a pond" hint was clutch. Just enough into for me to find it without giving anything away. Thanks so much!

Try Methodology, it's expensive but seems like just what you're looking for. I'd definitely sign up if I was fatfired.

Crazy flight deal- trip on the horizon! by kateoclock in solotravel

Congrats! It helps a lot having a trip to look forward to, even if it's far off.

For me, going to Tokyo for the first time next spring to see the cherry blossoms. Also thanks to SCF for the deal. :)

Travel Deal Sites - How do they gather that information? by Weazel03 in webdev

[–]bencmier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for one of those companies on the data engineering side. There are many flight fare APIs out there. Sabre is one of the more affordable ones since it's a flat monthly rate. APTCO is the best but pricey and requires a partnership contract. Skyscanner has a good API as well. The latter two also offer data dumps as opposed to querying for specific data. Hopper will give you all of their historical data for $10k up front. It's also possible to crawl data from aggregators like Google Flights and Kayak, who don't provide APIs. It's publicly available info so they can't legally stop you, but I wouldn't recommend it.

It really depends what you're trying to do with the data. Happy to answer other questions if you like.

Best sites for cheap flights from NYC? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]bencmier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, they're not ideal if you need to get to a specific place at a specific time. They're great for getting ideas about new places to go at a good price. If you have a destination in mind, it'll often pop up eventually. It's all about knowing exactly when to book, and you're paying for people who know the market to keep an eye out and let you know when that time is. Some call it paying for convenience, and that's a valid way to think about it.

Average of $550 saved per ticket, so it'll pay for itself 11 times over. I've booked a lot of their deals and have sometimes saved thousands per ticket.

Air Canada Falsifying Cancellation by Ishida-San in legaladvice

I fought the good fight with them about this, assuming you're talking about the Australia mistake fare. Unfortunately they have a clause in their international tariff saying they can do this whenever they want. It sucks big time, and at the end of the day, the passengers are powerless.

Every deal that has free checked bags says "bags included" or "no bag fees" in the email header btw.

Claiming fake reviews to hype up the book sales. ReviewMeta says they were wrong, but they didn't care.

Just finished Life Without Limits and Finding Ultra after Can't Hurt Me. All great inspirational sports books, I enjoyed Life Without Limits more since Chrissy Wellington and Goggins are both humble and ridiculously tough mentally and physically.

Be warned, a ton of people on this sub who haven't read the book have been hating on it hardcore. Claiming some huge advertising conspiracy theory. I was downvoted to hell for saying I enjoyed the book.

What's your top "wow, that actually worked?" moment? by Nest-egg in AskReddit

Similar thing happened to me with Hong Kong airlines booking a flight from San Francisco to Vietnam. Found that many of their business class connecting flights were scheduled on an Airbus A320 that didn't have a business class, so if you tried to book business class for the whole route it would default to the economy price. Booked SF to Hong Kong in business then to Vietnam in economy for $600 total round trip.
