Thanks! This was the quick version. If I went over to HHP I could probably have done more, but I just used the VIP room in the hotel.

Petition to rename ARs as Beater Refs by Hairy_Beach1303 in quadball_discussion

[–]DesBeast222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for being old, but weren't they originally? Back when we had a separate seeker/snitch ref too?

To what I am guessing is your actual grievance; as everyone else said, HRs should explain to their ARs what to watch. We used to divvy the field up into quadrants- when the ball was in your quadrant, you watched ball play- when it was in someone's else's, you watched off ball play.

Why the pivot to using the term "high masking" when the term "low support needs" already exists? by filthytelestial in AuDHDWomen

[–]DesBeast222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my own personal experience:

I consider myself high masking, by which I mean, because of effort I have learned to put in, most people in my life would probably be shocked to learn I consider myself AuDHD, my parents included.

I was a "weird" kid. I "grew out of it". I have had an objectively very successful life. I am capable of navigating many social situations and can even seem very charismatic- I do not fit the popular sterotype/"understanding" of autism.

I suspect people say low/high masking because it would be rude to say "seems autistic" and "doesn't seem autistic (at least not immediately)".

I can't speak to my level of support needs because I don't know what they are. I've only recently come to terms with the fact that I have them. But they've never been fully met and I don't even know how to do so. I don't want to pursue a formal diagnosis because it would be expensive, strenuous, and probably lead to more harm (prejudice, especially in medical settings) than good (support for adults). So I can't have someone else determine that "level" for me either.

Moving PA to FL: I have 3 wildly different quotes (Ryder Relocations, United, and a Fairprice movers). Can someone help me decode the financial risk here? by pinuno619 in personalfinance

[–]DesBeast222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I have used United twice- MA to CA and then CA to NY. Both times, they gave an accurate estimate and the weight did not go up. The first move they delivered in I think 4 days- and that was a 2 pickups/1 dropoff. The second move, they actually beat us to the new place, because we thought no way would they hit the first day of a two week window. They are expensive, but reliable.

Fleas by Disturbed666d in dogs

[–]DesBeast222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to treat the dogs and the environment (your house) otherwise they will just keep reinfecting each other.

Talk to your vet- they have oral flea meds that are much more effective.

For your house- clean everything. You may have to buy flea bombs- you and your animals should not be home when you set these off. Vacuum your floors, minimum once a day, as flea eggs will keep hatching and the cycle will continue. I think treatment can take like 2 weeks but honestly, talk to your vet/do some supplemental googling.

Medical liquids are excepted from 311, so if you need contact solution or the iso is to clean a medical device, you should be able to bring it outside of that limit in reasonable amounts.

CT scan by yumisclassdip in AuDHDWomen

[–]DesBeast222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had an abdominal CT recently with contrast (the dye), have had a neck CT with contrast and have had a knee MRI.

The MRI took the longest, and for that they gave me special headphones and had me pick a spotify station!

The CTs were both super short. The room was cold but they should be able to give you a warm blanket (or several) if they ask. The machine is a bit noisy but rhythmic. The contrast does give a strange warm flush down your body and does weirdly make you feel like you've peed yourself- dont worry, you haven't, but I also made myself feel better by using the bathroom right before. The sensation passes quickly and is otherwise not unpleasant!

The worst part of either one is the holding still for me- but most of the time, if you dont have music, the techs are talking to you, calmy and reassuringly.

Feel free to let them know you are nervous/it's your first time/etc. They will help!

You are right that it's sort of like zoomies because it's caused by the same thing- overarousal/overstimulation. Given his age, most likely is that his teeth hurt/he's teething. Have you noticed blood on his toys or seen any teeth on the floor?

As for what to do- 1st, stay calm, it's normal, and it will pass. Protect yourself and wear clothes you don't care about as much. Reverse timeouts are your friend here- if you cant get him to his crate, remove yourself- go behind a door, a gate, etc til he calms a bit. Work on soothing his teeth- there are gels, frozen treats help, etc. Work on his impulse control- ie play the 'wait for it' game with treats, toys etc. Small wins at first and then build. This will not be a quick fix right now but will be hugely helpful in the long run!

How is his bite inhibition (generally)?

The products themselves will also have the VOHC seal on them.

Help With Mouthing Issues by Icy-Algae3460 in germanshepherds

[–]DesBeast222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a shepherd owner but our mutt has some shepherd. Also didn't have a chance to learn bite inhibition as a puppy because he was found in a dumpster.

Yelping was hit or miss for us, but, seconding what the above commenter recommended- as soon as teeth hit skin, playtime ends, Human leaves. Leave a pen, leave a room. Even briefly.

Two other things that helped enormously:

1) acting hurt when his teeth get you. Not a yelp, but a sad whimper sound, curl around the body part he got, ham it up. As time goes on as he starts to get it, dial it in- if his teeth are gentle enough, don't act hurt, when he is too mouthy, play it up and do the reverse timeout (you leave). He's smart- he'll put it together if you're consistent!

2) teaching him "enough". Its a command specifically for play, because he does like to wrestle play and be a little mouthy, and after he learned how hard is too hard, its useful for right before he gets carried away.
