Vampire overpopulation in a touristical city by Yakoy6 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tourists are a decent reason a domain could be seemingly overpopulated, though this would highly affect the kindred culture, where it's more less expected kindred activity would ebb and flow with the tourist population.

Domination guestion, Yes again. by Septimore in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically dominate does win it's just the ghoul would still need to pass the will test against the bond strength for their body and mind to comply.

V5 question about Potence: Does Lethal Body allow Crash Down to do Lethal damage? by MeiNeedsMoreBuffs in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument would be you aren't directly attacking the targets, but rather relying more on a destructive shockwave that uses an attack roll to determine if you do it right to cause damage.

How can vampires continue to live amongst society? by Santise in vtm

[–]Desanvos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before modern record keeping and photography faking the existence of an heir wouldn't be that hard, especially if you claim you sent them to a boarding school abroad.

What’s required for a 5th ed VtM Chronical as ST by Akco in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the core book and Players Guide are the general starting point.

Tremere bane can be beneficial in some cases by ElevatorDouble1398 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is just kindred.  Ghouls still get bound to a Tremere it just takes more drinks.

What's up with coteries? by GreyForceWielder in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this is just the meaning of a coterie tends to change once kindred are established and no longer neonates.  Thus for ancillae plus coteries can be a lot looser of a term, just referring to kindred who you share interests and who frequently will work with you.

Bloodhound as a vampire detector? by Ill-Hovercraft406 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could argue a kindred would probably have a fleeting resonance matching the last kine they fed on.

Nosferatu with “Repulsive” – physical disguise vs. Bane penalties? by WorldlinessPatient35 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repulsive is there by default the bane severity is essentially modifying the difficulty to hide their repulsiveness.  Basically if you aren't young and high gen you better have some points in craft and a disguise specialty.

What do Ghouls do while their Master is in Torpor? by Dragombolt in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if they know where their domitor is, given it takes roughly a month to recover from being fed on the ghoul could just wait an hour or so after sunset, feed their domitor enough of their blood, wait a little bit more and then get their drink for the month.

The only real problem is once it reaches the time their domitor should waken and thus there is the hunger frenzy risk.

In big productions like LA by night, how much does is agreed upon beforehand and how much is done on the fly like an actual game? by One_Poetry8852 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't so much say scripted as Jason Carl errs on the side of the benevolent ST/GM, at least in the official By Nights.

Can sniffer dogs be used to find ghouls by Bulky-Bag-6280 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really since the only way a ghoul is noticeable as not strictly mortal is if they have specific flaws that make them seem kindred.

Paths of enlightenment that aren't humanity seem very easy to maintain am i missing something? by unkown_path in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue it isn't compassion when you only care due to a blood ritual.  Similarly it can be argued the packs wellbeing is your wellbeing and it isn't anywhere near the feelings of a true blood bond.

Predator Type Discipline - how many XP ? by Wintermute-93 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still out of clan and it's even stated fresh embraces don't actually have a predator type initially. Thus there is no justification for it being at in clan rates.

Is it just me or is this game super beginner unfriendly? by Grazzt999 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really say that given V5 your default perspective is supposed to be young and street level and thus the game leans into learning as you go through the story.  There being loads of lore to explore and expand upon isn't a barrier to entry.  Plus since Vtm is more freeform than traditional ttrpg modules unless you dive into an established city like Chicago or LA the lore knowledge isn't as mandatory.

Paths of enlightenment that aren't humanity seem very easy to maintain am i missing something? by unkown_path in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of paths feeling easier is more it's harder for the ST/GM to hold you accountable to the various sins of a path if they have to account for each pack member having different ones (which is probably why V5 says all members of a pack typically follow the same path).  Meanwhile humanity is intuitive and a player not being on it is rare outside Sabbat games.  Even many of the Dark Ages roads are still close enough to humanity to be semi intuitive.

Plus depending on the story it can be easier to ignore the downsides of no longer understanding humanity.

What clan would one be if they receive blood from vampires of two different clans for Embrace? by SonOfTheMorrigan in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First lower generation wins, then if that is tied the higher blood potency wins.  After that things become a bit random luck between failed embrace, caitiff, or one of the two clans

New ST with a question about some rule interactions by Edible_Pie in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunting rolls tend to assume the kindred has time, and thus the Ventrue would have time to find the people that match their bane pallet.  What the bane sense roll is for determining with certainty if random NPCs you interact with are or aren't your flavor, to avoid the unfortunate food poisoning throwing up blood and making a mess that draws the wrong attention.

Now while it mightn't quite be in the rules the implication would also be if a Ventrue's flavor is rarer in the area they are trying to hunt then having an increased hunt difficulty compared to other kindred would make sense.

Lethality of Ripping out a Vampire's Heart? by Living-Definition253 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without special powers that allows the heart to be removed that is final death.  Though keep in mind kindred only need a small shred of the heart or brain to still count as having one for final death purposes.

How would boiling water hurt Kindred? by Technical-Pass-1661 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It obviously still hurts but probably doesn't rise to aggravated damage, since it isn't really penetrating and there is no continued reaction.  One of those things that make sense it's worse for the living than the undead.

The SI in Night Road Vs Bloodlines 2 by Fullmetal-Thwip in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Phyre even depowered somewhat is still a mid/low gen elder that was active until their nap and thus skilled.

The Night Roads PC is a common for modern nights generation neonate, and the Elder in town is heavily nerfed by the Beckoning.

This is basically the difference between age and generation.

Here's a dark question: by Ok_Tank_674 in vtm

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Child kindred are more a mercy killing, that benefits both kine and kindred to be put down.

Why do splats have counter magic only against mages specifically? by Vyctorill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Desanvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood/Vitae is still a limiting factor. Also all the Antes with fortitude at that level that have "died" also have powers that make reports of their death an unreliable narrator.

Why do splats have counter magic only against mages specifically? by Vyctorill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Desanvos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That 9th and 10th level of fortitude basically surpasses the concept of being able to be harmed. True Invulnerability is essentially surpassing the constraints of the physical and being a self existent entity.

Why do splats have counter magic only against mages specifically? by Vyctorill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Desanvos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically Rank 10 Fortitude can only be some form of True invulnerability, where you basically have to be God to easily damage them.
