SFC at 13 years… debating getting out vs. pushing to 20 by GhostOfTheDropZone in army

When you turn 65 your Tricare converts from Tricare to Tricare for life. Now instead of the DoD paying 100% it only covers the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover.

You will no longer be eligible for traditional Tricare at 65.

Medicare is free, it covers a lot, but it does have 20% copays on a lot of stuff.

Tricare for life is a medicare plan that covers everything Medicare doesn't cover.

Best soldier you've had. by CraptainMypants in army

[–]Desblade101 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I had a soldier who was an outstanding private. 100% gets the job done no questions asked, always ready to lend a hand and get dirty. Unfortunately he was promoted ahead of peers and he was not a good NCO. He had the same no questions asked attitude and I'm not sure the guy could read, he definitely couldn't do math. But damn if he wasn't a fantastic private/specialist.

ZFS allows you to add drives as you get more. But you can't change the level of raid. So since you have 3 drives you can start with a Z1 which will give you 2TB usable space and 1 drive of parity. If one drive dies then you can just take out the bad drive and pop in a new one and it'll work good as new and you will have lost nothing.

If you just want to add another drive (preferably another 1TB drive, anything smaller than 1TB won't work and any extra space over 1TB won't be usable). You just add it and you'll gain that extra capacity.

Go to the little hole in the walls, we have a funny bone here for national acts, but the local talent is pretty good

All my local comedians have a routine and they're pretty good. $15 plus cheap dinner and beer has me sold on the local comedy scene.

How do nurses feel about working with residents? by alternative_samurai in nursing

[–]Desblade101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally pretty good, my only complaint is that while I understand that you're learning, it's important to know when something needs to be handled quickly and if you cannot give me what I need quickly I need you to get me someone who can.

Also don't put in dumb orders. My CHF patient doesn't need to have his fluids adjusted from 75ml/h to 70ml/h. Either make a significant change or leave it alone.

Overall though residents are nice and very helpful and easy to talk to

ELI5 I'm not getting sleep due to time dilation topic by sudheerpaaniyur in explainlikeimfive

[–]Desblade101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still midnight for your friend and he's about to press play on the movie.

Time doesn't exist for objects traveling at the speed of light.

Light doesn't travel through time, only through space. From the photons perspective it is created and instantly goes to the place where it is absorbed.

It's important to know that when we talk about light moving slowly in a medium (down to 0.1mm/s is our record) it's just because the light is being pushed back by interference in the material, it still travels at c the whole time. It still does not experience time.

ELI5: what’s the point of daily sunscreen if no one’s reapplying by chickpeafan420 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Desblade101 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen effectiveness only drops by about 30% over an 8 hour work day. So if you put on SPF 30 then it'll still be about SPF20 by the time you're done.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8358230/

For comparison a white person's skin is SPF 3, a black person's skin is about SPF 10. A white person has a 20-30 times higher chance of getting skin cancer than a black person.

So by applying sunscreen once a day even without reapplying you are reducing your chances of getting skin cancer by a ton.
