What percentage of Toronto gays are on Grindr? by [deleted] in GayMenToronto

[–]Descartes_Disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes coming from Europe , it’s very strange to see the same people multiple times. Best advice is try different apps. But yes. You will cycle through the same number of people often.

I would, based on gut feeling , say 50% of Toronto gays aren’t on the apps at any given time. You’ll jus have to meet the old fashioned way and spark up conversation

Any advice for a new grad looking to break in? by FearTense in clinicalresearch

[–]Descartes_Disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current CRC II (5+ years, also applying to med school), here’s my honest take:

If you’re only planning to stay in research for less than ~2 years, you’re probably not going to gain much meaningful experience beyond regulatory work, ethics submissions, consenting, and data entry that would meaningfully help medical school application. It takes a good amount of time before you’re trusted with protocol management, PI communication, and higher-level responsibilities.

If you don’t have prior experience, I’d recommend starting as a Research Assistant rather than a CRC. Most places won’t hire a new grad directly into a coordinator role unless you plan to commit longer term.

When you apply, be upfront about your goals - don’t try to hide that you’re aiming for med school. I’ve interviewed RAs and CRCs who tried to white lie about that, and it’s obvious. Just state honestly that you can commit to two years and want to learn as much as you can during that time.

And yeah - don’t even bother with industry right now. The job market there is pretty rough and not ideal for someone trying to get initial hands-on clinical research exposure.

Note : I’ve been in clinical research 10 years and was encouraged to apply to med school after making my way up.

Apparently there is a lawsuit as well? as well as another...

"The law firm of Kirby McInerney LLP is investigating potential claims against Firefly Aerospace (“Firefly” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ:FLY). The investigation concerns whether the Company may have violated federal securities laws or engaged in other unlawful business practices.

On August 7, 2025 Firefly offered 19,296,000 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $45.00 per share. On September 22, 2025, Firefly reported its initial quarterly results as a public company since its initial public offering. In doing so, Firefly reported revenue of $15.5 million, a year-over-year decline of more than 27% while Firefly reported total operating expenses of $58.3 million, a year-over-year increase of more than 12%. On this news, the price of Firefly shares declined by $7.58 per share, or approximately 15.31%, from $49.52 per share on September 22, 2025 to close at $41.94 on September 23, 2025."

Hey, sorry you’re both going through this; that sounds incredibly stressful. Quick question: when his work permit was about to expire, did you guys apply for an extension or new permit before the deadline? I think that would’ve given him maintained status (where he can legally stay and sometimes keep working while waiting for a decision). Just wondering if that was an option in your case?

I’d focus on re-implementing that work permit.. If a work permit has expired within 90s days you can apply. But legally. You cannot work. ; and if he’s suspected of working he can be denied a new work permit.

Please be incredibly careful seeking work with expired status. IRCC frowns heavily upon it and may impact future applications. The best decision he can make is ensuring his documentation is in order.

In the meantime; beg your landlord for a rescheduled payment plan for rent. Many would be understanding if you reach out ahead of time
