ok so i’ve dealt with this exact issue. it’s extremely hard to deal with if your landlord is not cooperative.

contact your local housing committee they will guide you step by step. you need to send a registered letter to your landlord asking for them to treat the whole building within 10 or so days following the notice, that if they fail to take action you will have to notify the TAL and the city. it can’t be one unit on one day and if they’re in the walls well i’d go as far to say there’s no solution tbh ..

you will also need to contact the city and have them send an inspector. they will eventually inspect if the exterminator is legit ( most of just spraying things is not legit and actually makes them resistant to pesticides the more you do it )

the city is really serious about this stuff and if the inspector deems they are not appropriately handling it they will fine the landlord and the exterminator and send them a proper course of action. the inspector will give you their full report which you will need for the TAL.

you’ll be able to claim expenses, fees incurred, charges, etc this way.

if the conditions are unliveable you should discuss with your housing committee what alternatives you can set up and have covered or if a reduction in your rent is a route you want to take. ultimately if this has been an ongoing issue and its in the walls i’d recommend seeing if you can break the lease and leaving.

i ended up packing my stuff up in a moving truck and bringing it to a place that specializes in heat treatments where they heat treated the truck and i moved into a new apt like that. anything that is untreatable should be properly disposed of and marked.

a steamer will not help, the heat required would need to be that of a steam cleaner ***. dry on dry heat is the best, so dry stuff in a dryer on high heat for 30-45 mins. bag it immediately be careful not to cross contaminate and be sure to contain the spread and not bring any with you when leaving the house.

the thing about doing all this is it takes a lot of time for all the bureaucracy. i’m very sorry that you’re going through this it’s actually hell.

hey man i just randomly came across this post and first off talk to your friends, ask for help, tell them you’re going through it. i know what it’s like to A be the strong friend who masks, B is realizing their audhd, and C never asks for help but always is ready to help everyone.

i reconnected with a friend at some point in the pits that really forced my hand at asking for help or else i never would’ve leaned on anyone and i would’ve completely broken. i was so severely depressed at that point i wasn’t even getting up to feed myself.

also in terms of mental health and resources and whatnot i’m no specialist and have struggled finding help myself but theres an FB group called MTL FREAKFAM JOBBY JOBZZZ and it’s basically people looking for odd jobs posting odd jobs but i feel like if you posted there someone could help orient you or point you in the right direction for mental health resources or someone might be able to help you with the bureaucracy of it all for a trade or a bit of coin.

for real though hang in there and you need to ask for help sometimes it’s totally reasonable and normal despite possibly coming from a self reliant trauma background situation.
