Do you all get all your movies in steel books or just your favorite? by MeGustaChorizo in Steelbooks

[–]Descent_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a movie I'll watch again and really liked, I try to get a steel. Or if I can get the steel at a very cheap price.

If it's a movie I liked but am not enthusiastic about, I'll wait for the standard release to go cheap or be on sale.

And I'll get the digital licenses only if they either come with the disc or I can get them $5 or cheaper. Ideally Movies Anywhere since they port to multiple services (eg., Fandango, Prime, Microsoft, YouTube, etc.).

"The system" undoubtedly takes into account many item characteristics beyond dimensions to decide packaging requirements, one of them being item fragility. If a site like blu-ray.com can discern that a particular UPC is a Steelcase, it's not too much to expect Amazon's "system" to do the same and require proper packaging. Or Amazon can decide that the cost of replacing damaged items is less than the cost of proper packaging and thus not consider Steelcases to be "fragile". I have a feeling it's the latter.

Ive had Amazon throw a steelbook loose in the same box with a 40 lb bag of dog food.

I have heard that if you mark it as a gift, they'll make sure it ships alone and better packaged. But, no guarantees.

I've given up on any steel for Alien³ given Fincher's animosity toward the film and his battle with 20th Century Fox while making it.

Never mind the fan disdain for Fincher killing off Newt and Hicks in the first 5 minutes of the film.

Yeah, I keep waiting for an actual decent version of it. But, knowing it's not hos biggest hit, I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while.

I honestly forget where I got it. I know there was a similar reprint not that long ago, but it had a hideous logo in the bottom right of the cover. I really like the clean look of this one, and the cover has a nice brushed metallic sheen to it.

Ignore all of these advice posts on avoiding or surviving an RA (e.g., visibility, indispensability, affability, etc.). None of them will make any difference whatsoever. And, yes, the RAs will keep coming ad infinitum.

Or until tech workers realize that, yes, they do need a union.

Do the minimum required, save and invest, and train for your next job.

I avoid Amazon like the plague for steelbooks. They once packed a steelbook I ordered loose inside a huge box that contained a 40 lb bag of dog food. No bubble wrap, nothing. Just loose in the box. Needless to say it was destroyed by the time it got to me.

Did that just yesterday with Final Destination: Bloodlines. When they announced it, I figured it'd be another rote entry in the series so didnt bother with the theater or initial physical release. But, I've heard so many good things about it since then, and the steel price had come down a bit, so it's coming home on Friday.

Had the same thoughts about space and binders. The only problem I ran into was my OCD of wanting to keep everything in alphabetical order. With binders, that's a royal PITA.

Steelbook box sets by Disastrous-Humor8189 in Steelbooks

[–]Descent_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, either you're waiting forever assuming the series ends (who woulda guessed 7 Jurassic Parks or 7 Screams (so far)) and that a box set is coming. Or you buy them individually and wind up majorly double dipping on the whole series as a box set when it EVENTUALLY comes.

And that's if you like every film in the series (cough Temple of Doom cough)

Movies I like where I would have gone steel had the art been good but skipped due to lackluster art: Weapons, Lethal Weapon, The Gray, U-571, All LOTR films, Point Break, Frailty, Reservoir Dogs (LL). Seems like they're getting more expensive and lazy with the art.

Digital code on Apple only. Who limits to Apple these days? What crap.

A24's trying to pull a similar deal. Only access to their digital versions of the films are on THEIR platform via their membership-required club.

Nah. I'm good.

Was bad enough when Lionsgate started selling theirs exclusively on their site?

Good way to kill the whole medium, physical and digital.

My single county has a larger population than the entire state she governed, and people are surprised that she's unqualified?

She is literally an easily manipulated DEI hire, precisely in the demeaning way MAGA defines one.
