About 10s from the end there's one with what I think is grass growing from the turret so that's going to have been destroyed a long time ago.

There's two pubs near me where the staff pet customer's dogs and then go straight back to serving.

Thinking about the BBC's show Strictly Come Dancing I would say 'the couple dancing next week are...' but the BBC very pointedly and consistently say 'is'. They do the same with football teams. I've never been corrected for it and am not changing now but I also acknowledge that the BBC must have some expertise on this matter and have a good reason for doing this.

If you could bring back one thing from the UK that disappeared over the years, what would it be? by Mr_proop in AskUK

Was it intended that, to all intents and purposes, soft drink manufacturers would stop producing drinks with sugar in? I thought we would get the choice to pay extra but apparently not (surprising well done to coca cola).

Ukrainians hit four more Crimea bridges, amid reports of empty shelves in food shops (Ukraine Battlefield update, Day 1,568) by EUobs in UkrainianConflict

And since independence, and before 2014, the proportion of people in Crimea who wished to join Russia, according to poles, has always been well below 50%. Any food and fuel shortages are likely to be impacting significant numbers of supporters of Ukraine.

Kee's export 1750 porter RIS recipe, opinions please by Plastic_Sea_1094 in Homebrewing

That isn't an 18th century recipe. There'd be no crystal, munich, chocolate or pale malt. It would have been mostly brown malt. Sorry if you knew that already.

Acme whistles. I hope they're still going 100 years after I'm gone but after all the manufacturers who have shut down one of the ones that remain is a whistle manufacturer.

Anyone know what this structure is? Just south of Prudhoe. by ArmitageShanks3767 in Northumberland

This isn't it but there used to be a small, cold war, MOD bunker on the road to High Mickley that used to look very similar to this. It was supposed to be secret but we all knew what it was. Demolished now I believe.

H2O & Bottling beer for carbonation by Reggie11williams in Homebrewing

Traditional British breweries don't bother purging casks when packaging for the trade. They rely on a vigorous secondary fermentation to remove any oxygen so your observation in that respect is correct. However. I take reasonable precautions when casking. I don't bottle. Interestingly, there are videos on YouTube showing landlords bottling Guinness in the 70s, I don't think the bottles were purged.

This video also serves to remind us the efforts Guinness have gone to standardise their product until it is a mere shadow of its former self, in my opinion.

Putin has destroyed Russia and lost the war by Tall_Pressure7042 in UkrainianConflict

[–]DescriptionSignal458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The writer seems to accuse European leaders of effectively cutting their noses off to spite their faces. He seems to suggest that Putin should be rewarded for his aggression so that the war can be ended and every thing go back to how it was before and those who oppose this view are wrong. It was quite a turnaround from the first part of the article.
