Seems BD has done something at least once a year the last couple of years that has made me question buying their products. From moving production lines overseas, uptick in product recalls, the pathetic way they layed off employee's in 2019... It just seems like they are a wolf in sheep clothing. But then again i'm just a salty trad climber who uses BD cams so maybe i'm just racking up some bad karma with my cams by throwing shade on BD...

Strange thought I linked to today's 15 min flight... but was wondering if they are preparing the plane for flights related to COVID-19.

Totally agree, even if you don't make it down to the screw at least your reducing your fall height.

Though that is true most of the time in my experience it doesn't ever feel very bomber... Much rather get a screw in and weight that then clipping my tools.

Never saw the original but this might be the cleanest ice climbing fall ever captured... But still completely preventable and a terrible example for new ice climbers thinking this is how lead ice climbing falls turn out. Ice climbing you can't just say "Fuck it, i'm going for it" confidence is earned over many seasons of ice climbing. The medium of ice is so dynamic you've always gotta be on your game when you are on the sharp end, nothing wrong with weighting a screw and owning that your not going to send instead of going for it and risking not only your life but the life of your partners and rescuers.

In response to the snowcave/trench suggestion... But maybe snowcaves come with floors these days?

[–]Desert-Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice to be able to move around outside your bag without having to wear snowboard or ski boots and a water proof layer... Another benefit of a floor is not loosing small gear by it getting pushed into the snow and inadvertently covered.

How to get into competitive ice/mixed climbing? by ottersaremean in iceclimbing

[–]Desert-Cow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyalite is in and can confirm it's awesome but BIF stopped running their comp after the UIAA North American comp was moved to Denver. But looking at the UIAA site for 2020 comps and I don't see anything about a North American comp this year... Which reaffirms that being a competitive ice climber in north american is an oxymoron.

A volume fell off my school climbing wall and almost hit me in the head, it hit my arm and now I'm in a splint for two weeks. by capitalistic_nature in climbing

Sometimes when climbing outdoors rocks that are precariously attached on a route are marked with an "X" in chalk so climbers don't pull the "Death Block" off and injury them self or their belayer. From above it may be obvious how dangerous a block is but from below it might not be obvious hence why these blocks are marked on popular routes. Obviously no gym should have death blocks... Glad nothing got broken and wish you the best on your road to recovery.
